Ray's Boathouse Ratings and Reviews
I have frequented Rays for 45 years, through many menus and apparently an ownership change or two. But the unique views still play out, and the service is almost always top tier. Valentine's Day was no exception. The set menu offered choices almost any seafood lover could embrace, and the wait staff kept to the beat, not easy on "date night". This old timer still gets what he pays for at Ray's. Seattle restaurants come and go, and diners have higher expectations, but my security password is still Rays when prompted for favorite restaurant.
We had a lovely dinner from start to finish. Excellent service from Karen, our server and delicious food that was served piping hot. We live in Reno but travel to Seattle periodically for a long weekend and always make a point of having dinner at Ray's. Our favorite restaurant in Seattle.
Had not been there in a while. Service was very attentive, informative and polite.
Had the beet salad and chowder for appetizers. Beets were enjoyable, chowder had way too many flavors that conflicted and something was not right about it.
Sablefish was very good, king salmon was ok.
All in all a fair experience, just nothing that stood out for the high prices.
I had a negative experience on my first and only time visiting Rays Boathouse. I will not be going back. We were going for my anniversary with my husband. We were sat next to a family of four with their two children who were watching a show loudly on their ipad/cell phone. It absolutely took away from a romantic experience. I understand that I cannot blame Rays Boathouse for this. We tried to ignore them and enjoy our experience. Our drinks (iced tea and water) were empty several times for about 5 minutes while we looked around for our server. My husband ordered a Caesar salad and had the chicken as his entree. The salad came and had 1 piece of Brown lettuce. We did not think much about it and just removed it from the plate. Once the chicken came, it was pink in the middle and had a dark red pool that came out of it. After another 5 minutes, we finally were about to find our server. He promptly removed the chicken. At this point, we were just ready to go. The manager came over and apologized that , "the color was undesirable". He offered an additional dish but we had lost our appetite. When we asked for the bill, they had removed the chicken but did not offer anything else as an apology or good faith on our next visit. It was not a good experience and do not recommend this restaurant.
My wife and I had an evening away from the kids and decided to try out Ray's. Heard lots of good things but we did not have a good experience. Maybe it was a bad night for the kitchen? Wine was not stellar and I actually returned a glass due to it tasting old (first time I had ever done that.) Think red bottle you left open for 3-4 days. Waiter seemed surprised but still replaced the glass. Waiter was overall thorough and attentive. Appetizers were bland but better than the main course. I had scallops which were good but not what I would describe as tasty. The overwhelming flavor of my wife's fish was burned food. She didn't eat any of it nor could I. Waiter seemed to think of us as picky and just boxed it up. Still charged us for it. Seemed like more effort than it was worth to argue. Needless to say we won't be coming back again.
Great food, and perfect view. The seasonal selection of sablefish dishes was just fantastic. The smoked sablefish was out of this world and the one paired with pork bellies was surprising, creative, and so very tasty. Good place for the whole family for an anniversary dinner. Would love a suggestion on wines for each of the dishes.
I had great expectations for Rays. Everything was good with exception to the food. It’s not that it didn’t taste good, it just didn’t blow my mind. I dropped 200$ and left somewhat unsatisfied. The portions were to small for the prices and the flavor wasn’t enough to bring tears to my eyes like I have had before at other locations because the food was so good. I would go again but not a place I would frequent.
Christmas dinner could not have been nicer. From the friendly greeting from the valet crew and reception staff, the experience continued to get better. The food, as expected, was done perfectly, the service warm, efficient and cheerful.we felt welcomed. We hope to go back each Christmas. Well done!
I frequent this restaurant quite often, as Ray's is one of my go to restaurants for business and personal dining. My last visit, on Christmas Eve, was not the best. The the kitchen needs to go back to dance school for a refresher, as the entrees were not served on time or in order, some of us finished our main course before others arrived. Although a decent portion, the medium rare salmon was overcooked; I hope the next visit serves up a better experience.
Crab cakes tasted like fried mush - couldn’t taste any crab, but the accompanying greens were fine.
Caesar salad was awful - limp greens that were not romaine and tasteless dressing . Sent it back.
My husband’s meal and the signature dish of Pork Belly and Crispy Sable fish was equally disappointing. It was very greasy and poorly executed.
We spent Christmas Eve here and it was magical! Our meal was impeccable, the staff attentive and entertaining, and the environment was perfect for a special occasion. So glad this is where we ended up - we felt like regulars, and it was our first time there!
We had dinner at Rays during the Summer and enjoyed the menu and excellent views. However we went back during the Winter and the lack of consistency in menu quality and dishes were disappointing. Not sure if they had a change of Chef, but this time it was sub-par. The same menu items (in this case the Calamari starter) were completely different dishes - previously it was a lovely fried dish and now it was a flavorless tomato-based broth with mostly mussels. The sable fish was overdone and tasteless - this is a seafood restaurant after all! The desert menu is limited with really low quality products - the panacotta with churro's is mostly a cold, doughy churro with a rubbery panacotta.
My friend and I decided to dine at Ray's for our annual pre-Christmas gift exchange as we wanted good food without getting anywhere near the craziness of the season. We decided on Rays as there is plenty of parking. The food was fantastic, the service equally so and one can't top the views!
