We've made every effort to make dining at Raymonds a unique and rare treat. Visit us at 95 Water Street in the heart of downtown St. John’s. Our dinner menu, prepared by head chef Jeremy Charles, is inspired by rustic Atlantic Canadian cuisine. It features authentic dishes that take advantage of Newfoundland and Labrador’s rich variety of seafood, wild game, berries and vegetables, while also exploring innovative, 'haute cuisine' ingredient combinations and finishes.

I was given a Raymond's card as a farewell gift from my former co-workers. I thought Raymond's was far too luxurious for my husband and I to even think about going, so we never even tried to book a table. I was pleasantly surprised to find that the prices were equivalent to other establishments in St. John's. What was outstanding was the food and the warm and welcoming atmosphere. This is a luxury that we can afford to treat ourselves too.
For the price, we expected far more than things you learn to do in the first two years of a Culinary school. The menu was uninspired, half of which was bland and it was not the menu expected and no notice of a change was provided. The tomato salad was a delightful start and the tuna was cooked beautifully. The lamb tartare was a lovely surprise and well executed. For the price not worth the journey we made for Canada's number one restaurant. We spent $500.00 at The INN at Bay Fortune and were over the moon. We spent $185 at Raymonds on a split menu and we're deeply uninpressed. The service was impeccable, the servers themselves had a brilliant knowledge of the menu. The atmosphere was relaxing, however it is a restaurant and you go for the food which was disappointing.
We celebrated our daughter's 16th birthday and had a delightful evening. All 5 of us were thrilled with our meals and most importantly, the birthday girl is a vegetarian and she thoroughly enjoyed her meal too. The food is always outstanding and unusual. As well, our server was very attentive and made the night very special.
Very disappointed. We came for our 15th wedding anniversary and put that in our Open Table reservation. There was no acknowledge of it as we saw tables around us being presented with beautiful desserts celebrating their special occasion. Our server said she was new and she clearly was. She was very friendly but she couldn’t describe the courses to us because she said she forgot. My water glass sat empty more than once. Then a table with 3 small children sat down two tables over and the children were so loud and were allowed to run around the dining room. It was unbelievable. We paid over $300 hoping for a memorable dining experience and I wish I could get my money back and forget the whole thing.
The chef is a genius . The sommelier is brilliant at matching wines with the superb dishes. Service is elegant yet friendly. Atmosphere is classic. We made a special stopover in St John's on our way back to Ottawa from Dublin specifically to have dinner here and it was entirely worth it. Why this chef and restaurant doesn't have Michelin Star I just don't know. Thanks for a great evening!
For an original experience; this is a must stop when visiting St John's NFLD! The menu is course based...you can go with a 3; 4...or a 7 course...basically extended variations of the 3 course meal...which is not a negative > we prefer a shorter menu...usually ensures a better end product. This was certainly the case at Raymonds!!...the food was awesome! We chose the 3 course & wine pairing option...fantastic experience. Service was a bit off the night we visited...a few mistakes but overall we really enjoyed and would recommend.
Raymonds lives up to all my expectations....except one. It was very dear for the tasting menu. I get that tasting menus are where it is at, but some of the portions were so small. Other than the amazing tuna, I cannot remember a single other morsel of food. I am sure that is not what you intended. We were 4 adults with one bottle of wine, 4 pre-dinner drinks and 4 tasting menu 5 and our bill was over $900. that is nuts. Very nice but way too expensive for the value.
The service and ambiance is excellent. The quality of the food, the flavours and the wine pairing was the best we have had . Ive eaten all over the world in some very special places. Whoever eats at Raymonds will leave with a memorable dining experience.
We even realized we were eating so slowly to explore and savour tge unique flavours.
The staff were very informed about the meals and ingredients. Even the butter was made there.
The service was spectacular. The cod and halibut entrees were superb. The tuna appetizer was surprisingly subpar as the tuna was overwhelmed by the vegetables and sauce. Desserts are out of this world and small enough that they can be enjoyed without calorie regret.
I had the best meal in my life at Raymond's. The tasting menu was creative, well-balanced and utterly divine. I'm generally quite picky, but there was not a wrong note in the entire feast. I particularly enjoyed the seasonal and local ingredients, and my sister-in-law really appreciated the gluten-free alternatives. The sommelier's selections for the wine flight perfectly paired with the tasting menu, and I liked the combination of excellent Canadian and international wines. The staff were attentive and helpful, and the venue was elegant and enchanting, with a spectacular view of the forested side of St. John's harbour. I had wanted to dine at Raymond's for 7 years, since I was unable to during my first visit to St. John's, and it was truly worth the wait - an exquisite meal and lovely evening.
Greeted warmly upon arrival. Food was good but not exceptional given the price point. Service was a bit stiff. The dining room had a banquet hall feel rather than a fine dining ambience. The cod was perfectly prepared but the halibut was overdone. Whiskey as the "wine" pairing for dessert was an odd choice.
After all the rave reviews and press I was excited to try this restaurant. Service was excellent, room was formal without being stuffy. I had the 7 course tasting menu. The food overall was very good. However for this calibre of restaurant I was looking for perfection with how things were cooked. Halibut was very dry and cod skin was burnt. The other dishes were very good and inventive. I would recommend this restaurant.
A thoroughly enjoyable dinner. Wonderful and accommodating staff! Nice view over the harbour early evening, and a relaxing atmosphere. An upscale experience without any stuffiness or pretentiousness. The meal was very good, with a couple of outstanding elements. Great bartender too.
Extraordinary! Friends had been previously, and said it was not to be missed when in Saint John's. Each exceptional course was paired with wine perfectly by Kim, Raymond's sommelier, with just enough information to inform and entertain. Mitchell's service perfect. Great experience. Raymond's is in the same league as any of the Michelin-starred restaurants I've visited in France.
Raymond's deserves its reputation as one of the very best restaurants in North America.
We had the 7 course Chefs Menue with the wine pairing. Everything fit together superbly. Service was impeccable. The dinner was built around local ingredients currently available.
This is an experience not to be rushed. Take the time to savor every bite, every sip.
The service was impeccable, the setting was formal yet warm and inviting, and the food outstanding. We particularly liked the emphasis on local ingredients and the wine pairings that were available. It was a lovely place to celebrate a wedding anniversary and the end of a spectacular two week Newfoundland vacation.
