Have had dinner at Rays at least 5 times in the past 12 months. Food as excellent on prior visits but no so last night. I was enticed by an entree featuring Wagu steak. It turned out to be they single most poorly designed entree that I have ever eaten at a restaurant. Sparse extremely shaved steak, maybe four or five slices across Raman noodles. Horrible. My wife ordered the strip steak and it too was poorly prepared. All and all a very dissatisfying experience.
We had booked a table for a special occasion and yet the a table in the window with view was given to couple behind us, who were just walk ins.
We were left sitting at a table next to a very loud obnoxious man who was on a date and basically yelled his insights on plastic surgery and religion to his poor victim for an hour. We couldn’t hear ourselves think.
Very slow service - they were under staffed - and the servers did that thing where they constantly stare into the middle distance so they never catch your eye so you can’t ask them anything. The experience and standard of the servers does not match the Ritz Carlton brand. A faded beauty to be sure.
We waited 45 minutes for our meals, with not even a morsel of bread to tide us over. The food was inedible. We had two bites and left.
On the positive side the valet team in the car park were excellent and we got out of there fast.
Save your money.
The hotel is beautiful. The view is excellent. There are window tables though that are much better seating than other tables. When we were being seated, the window seats were not offered to us even though we had reservations. Instead, they were given to some other folks who arrived later than us. When I tried to wave down the hostess to ask, she ignored me and walked right by.
These are the types of experiences that make people question if they are being discriminated against.
The food was not great. Ceviche's flavor was off and the beef in the chorizo was tough. The lobster taco, which the waiter told me to order 4 instead of 3, was not good and the one extra taco was uneaten.
Having said all of that, the view is incredible and worth the visit.
This dining room is superb. My wife and I go there for birthdays and anniversaries and the food is outstanding and so is the service. Daniel waited on us for the third time the other night and was terrific, even though he was quite busy waiting on at least 6 other tables. Yes it's expensive, our bill was about $200 before tip, but the seafood we had was excellent and beautifully presented. If you have no tolerance for bold flavors, then Raya may not be the place for you. Otherwise, bring the credit card and enjoy yourselves. You will not be disappointed.
Of course its expensive it's the Ritz-Carlton, the in-hotel restaurant with the amazing ocean view also has one of the best breakfasts around. We were seated near the window with that amazing view which was soon forgotten when the delicious breakfast was set before us. My super picky spouse ordered the Huevos Rancheros with chorizo instead of carnitas and he was thoroughly pleased with his meal, not leaving a bit on his plate. I had the machaca breakfast burrito which was nothing short of excellent and after looking at my "cleaned " plate you would wonder if I actually was served anything, My daughter had the omelette with hash browns and toast and she enjoyed every bite of it. We have stayed at the Ritz many times and always make sure that we have the Raya breakfast before we head home.
Very disappointing. The room is barely separated from the lobby so you feel like you’re eating in a hallway. The service was very friendly when you could find them but would disappear for long stretches of time. The food is that kind of food where they want to do something modern and creative but just end up putting way too many ingredients together so that everything in essence tastes the same and is overly salted. I ordered a steak. There isn’t much you need to do to a steak and don’t get me wrong, I love salt on steak but there was so much salt that you could barely taste the meat. Not to mention the fact that there were a thousand things under and on top of the steak which overpowered the flavor of the steak. My brother had the scallops which, while large, were rubbery. He also had the carnitas which he did say we’re pretty good. In general, overpriced and overdone for what it is. Never going back.
Raya is a great place to go for dinner anytime or for a special occasion. The restaurant is beautiful and the service is always excellent. The only down side this time was the valet was rude to me on the way in. Not the usual experience but he was and actually thought it was funny. Would recommend Raya but disappointed in the overall service at the Ritz.
Took my 90 year-old Grandma here for brunch. She was impressed the moment we walked into the hotel. Amazing view from every table and a wonderful experience. We did the 3-course brunch and it did not disappoint. We appreciated the pacing of the courses, allowing us ample time to visit, and of course the never-ending champagne. It was certainly a splurge, but well worth it. Be warned that it’s a bit noisy, however that would not keep me from coming back.
We were expecting the food to be very good, since it's a high end restaurant at the Ritz Carlton. The winter squash salad and and aroznego were just average. However the ahí tuna seviche was delicious and creatively good with an Asian twist. There wasn't any chef specials available to try.
Four of us ladies met for a Christmas gathering and sat at the window. Such a beautiful view of the ocean and the surface below. The service was amazing and impeccably professional. Three of us ordered ordered the lobster salad. It was truly divine. The lobster was a generous serving, sweet and delicious. We definitely will meet at Raya for future special events.
Everything was pretty much as I expected (which is high expectations) although I felt for the price the food could have been a little bit better. The preparations were in line, but I thought that all of the food was slightly over-seasoned and my sea bass had an awkward 'radish type' vegetable (potentially under-cooked) that could have been replaced with something that would have better brought the dish together. The service was acceptable, but not impeccable. The drinks were fantastic and the ambiance was exceptional.
As always, Raya impresses up to the sky and down again! I give this beautiful restaurant A+ in all aspects of dining. The view of surfers and the Southern California coastline cannot be beat. Of special merit is the delicious chocolate birthday dessert which is always comped.
It really needs an upgrade! Front entrance carpet is filthy dirty and worn out!! Not impressive and definitely not something one would expect at the "Ritz". The edges were all stained and looked like it was worn all the way down. Overall, place looked dated and old and almost cheap.
At the window leaves someone awestruck and quite memerized. Served by the exceptional team of Joel, Maria and EmilyKate. Fog was rolling as we started lunch---this was sinister to some yet to others it presented an opportunity to focus on the "himmelich" presentation of bite sized excellence by Chef Richard Sandoval. Brazilian cheese rolls (4) were the texture of a donut hole yet more velvety (lacking sweetness) with full cheese richness with a crispy crust like exterior. Miso Alaskan Black Cod was divine and so treasured the Professor did not share a bite. Superb (even during lunch) and on my birthday. Thanks to the team at Raya and to Chef Sandoval.
