We had a very enjoyable couple of hours with friends this evening. The dinner selections were outstanding and the service was attentive without being to attentive. The only downside was the noise level. It was difficult to carry on a conversation with one another. The overall experience was very good and we look forward to returning soon.
The dining room is lovely, but the noise level is TOO LOUD for a conversation in a table for four.
This is one of our favorite finds of 2018!
Love the Irish Breakfast.
Wonderful for date night.
Wonderful for brunch with friends.
Food is DELICIOUS.
Beautiful building, cozy seating.
Planning our next visit soon!
Kind of old school a little to saucy for my taste and heavy on meat.my son liked it because of the novelty of meat like venison.
Amazing food, service and Bloody Mary's! Highly recommend!
I made reservations for Thanksgiving. It was a disaster. 30 minute wait to be seated and when we were it was right next to the loud and chaotic kitchen. One cracker and a small cheese ball for three people was the “starter” followed by a limited dinner choice (they had run out of vegetable options by 7 pm). The green beans were so woody they could not even be masticated. The remains of which even shocked the waitress who realized she needed to contact the manager immediately. For $75 a piece the portions were unacceptably small. A tiny cup of squash soup was fancied-up-to-death in the the way too many northwestern chefs do — tasting too much of cumin and the tinniest of tumeric. While the turkey medallion was moist and well seasoned, the mashed potatoes (all two table spoons of them) were bland and soft. The exaggerated sage in the stuffing didn’t compliment anything else on the palate, and the dessert — a so-called pumpkin cheese cake was saturated in sugar like most American desserts: I suppose that was the most traditional aspect of a very disappointing experience. I walked away angry that I had been defrauded of what I had hoped would be a comforting, enjoyable experience.
Had Thanksgiving dinner and all of us enjoyed the food immensely. Two of us had the salmon and two of us had the turkey. Well cooked, nice presentation and a leisurely pace. The portions *looked* small, but clearly weren’t as we were all very comfortably full at meal’s end. I wasn’t able to finish my pumpkin cheesecake despite it was a tiny portion. I was treated by a friend which is good because I’d never be able to pay $75 for a single meal. Plus whatever my glass of Bordeaux cost! I will check them out for lunch or brunch and see if that would be affordable - I’m very confident it would be just as tasty!
Excellent service and food. The Rookery (upstairs bar area) is a beautiful space, and the building itself is a historical jewel. Highly recommend.
I live just a block away, so I love being able to walk to such a great restaurant. Our favorite times are Thanksgiving & Christmas.
The waiter who was also a sommelier, was extremely attentive and polite. Checked in on us quite frequently, which might also be a bother to some people. Beautiful atmosphere and 5 star cuisine. No vegan options, but dishes were plates beautifully.
Excellent lunch! I liked the disclaimer at the bottom of the menu warning of mushroom-eating consequences for Blutbadens.
I wanted to experience a British Pub and meal again instead of having to travel a great distance.
My fish and chips was outstanding. My table mate enjoyed her full English breakfast.
I sat at a booth on a busy Sunday with many young party kids running down the stairs. Some noise
but lots of fun.
A great place to go before going to an event at The Schnitz!
My second time eating here and both times enjoyed my meal, but both times felt the waiter really rushed us. 1 hour 20 min is not too long for a multi course with wine meal. Or shouldn’t be in my opinion.
Arrived at 5:30. Dinner arrived at 6:45. Their wine prices are insane. House wines nondescript. Not returning.
This was our third visit to Raven & Rose and, by our request, we had the same booth and same waiter (Ari, who is superb) again.
As we have done before, we took friends for their first visit to R&R, and they were knocked out.
This may have become our new favorite Portland go-to restaurant.
It's not, by any stretch, inexpensive but it's worth it.
We had early dinner for two. The curried rabbit was excellent. Both the rabbit and the halibut were handsomely plated. The halibut itself was not quite top notch in either flavor or texture.
The house wines were very good.
Service was excellent.
Seating and table setting were excellent.
Low noise levels facilitated conversation.
Pricing at approximately $100 including tip was not out of line with the Portland market for equivalent dining.
This is the second time I've been to Raven and Rose and I have enjoyed both visits immensely. The food is creative and tasty using seasonal vegetable. The portions are generous. The atmosphere is friendly
First class food
Cool,classy and top quality!!
Because we wanted to enjoy our conversation, we sat in the area outside the main dining room and it was relatively quiet which we enjoyed. The food was excellent as was the service.
Our host was lovely and had even recommended the Bloody Mary, which we thought was simply divine. Brunch was delicious even without the drink, creative and so full of flavors. Would definitely go here again.
My husband and I had a great time for our anniversary! We were each treated with a half glass of champagne on the house. Seated right away and servers were attentive and knowledgeable. Great ambiance and late night vibe.
Great food and excellent drinks. Also want to point out that the Rookery Bar upstairs is also a treat.
Very good, attentive service. Will return to try the rabbit and the pork chop. The flatbread appetizer was decent but not a surprise. Tomato bisque was quite good. Pate was better than average.
Food took forever and was over price.
We had such a lovely meal! They made sure we made it to our show on time and that I was happy with the vegetarian options.
Raven & Rose has become our go-to Portland restaurant for outstanding food and impeccable service. This gem defies the rule that you cannot be all things to all people. It is your local "everyday" tavern with comfort food or healthy choices to suit anyone's needs, while also beautifully serving as a fine dining and special occasion experience. The entire service team provides friendly and sincere white tablecloth service, without any white tablecloth pretentiousness. We recently celebrated my parents' 50th Wedding Anniversary and they made our night even more special by offering a celebratory toast, providing gluten free alternatives, and even digging deep into their kitchen to come up with tasty options that our very picky kid guests loved. The menu takes its inspiration from the owner and chef's best culinary experiences in Ireland and Great Britain, elevating this even higher with our locally sourced ingredients. Yes, there are fish and chips, and also the most succulent venison, crisp and lively salads, and of course luscious lamb dishes. They can accommodate a "burger and fries" appetite, however take a leap and try the Ballymaloe House pate, the fisherman's board, or something new to you, it will not disappoint and you may find your palette may no longer crave anything else. The wine, beer/cider, and cocktail list is top-notch as well. The Ladd Carriage House setting is beautiful and historic. If they were a few blocks closer to downtown, we'd probably never be able to find a seat. You'll be glad you ventured to this part of downtown for either a happy hour drink or a special occasion meal.
Delicious, inventive fare with excellent service. Leave a bit more time before your theater call time so that you can really savor the tastes.
Thoroughly enjoyed the restaurant and the food. We went twice this past weekend, once with four and once with ten. Excellent both times.
Came here with my girlfriend for our anniversary. The place felt very cozy and romantic. I had rabbit, which I have never had before, and thoroughly enjoyed it. The bartender was very nice, and made some great recommendations. Would defintely make a return trip.
I have eaten at this restaurant several times. The food is very good. The service is also very good. My only issue with it is the cost. The food is priced high compared to many other comparable places in town, but the wine is ridiculous. A very small percentage of the choices are under $75 per bottle. Most of the wine list was between $125 and $200+ per bottle, and several were over $200 per bottle. I understand the need to have expensive wine for people with that kind of taste and money, but they should have a better selection of lower priced wines as well.
Taking an out of town friend to dinner, we made a return trip to Raven & Rose where we had enjoyed such a great time on our last visit, and were delighted to find we had the same table (I had asked for a quiet space, to talk) and the same wonderful waiter, Ari.
Again, the food was nothing less than outstanding. The wine-by-the-glass list could use a little help, but they make a terrific martini and my wife had some foo-foo drink she really enjoyed.
Ari was fun. Attentive without being overbearing, and an expert on all the menu selections and the wine.
We were made to feel like honored returning guests.
Good food and place, but just a bit pricey. Go in with your eyes open.
I was excited when I entered the establishment. The staff was super friendly and professional. The menu is creative and seems vibrant. However, I ended up leaving due to the fact that they do not have a diet / sugar free soda option. In PDX, this is not rare. However it is not acceptable in a costly dinning situation that is supposed to be an experience. The host was very polite about the discussion. I would love to see this change and would visit if I return to PDX if I heard so.
We needed a good place to have a nice lunch over a serious meeting and requested a quiet booth. Management was courtesy and understanding and accommodated us wonderfully.
We absolutely loved our food. The flavors were fantastic. Our mistake, though, was to come in hungry. The plates were on the smaller side, so we had more dinner when we got home.
AMAZING food, classic service and an incredible list of spirits!
Our waiter was amazing. Ari. Picked a wine and was very helpful. The food was great- venison and filet for us with salad and oysters to start. Just the right amount. Excellent. I would go back.
I was so excited to sample their "Irish Breakfast". I'm from Scotland, born & raised and my parents moved from southern Ireland to Scotland after they got married so my brothers and I are Scottish born. We were raised on Irish & Scottish inspired cooking. Black pudding, white pudding, back bacon, proper sausages and and lots of other things that would only confuse anyone who is not from the UK/Ireland but Boxty was the best :) We will go back because it was a lovely restaurant and the service was brilliant but the breakfast items were a disappointment to me. My husband ate all of his and thoroughly enjoyed it. I am a picky eater and I do have very high standards because I cook too and everything has to meet that standard. Next time we will have lunch or dinner and I expect that to be a huge success.
