Raven & Rose
We also believe that everything is better when it is handmade. We are dedicated to making everything that we can in-house, daily and by hand. Our kitchen produces fresh pastas, pastries, crackers, soups and sauces. We butcher steaks, roasts, rabbits, birds, and fish in-house everyday. We believe it is all worth the effort, and we hope you will taste the difference!
Loved the food. The lamb chops were fantastic. Don’t miss the butterscotch pudding. Great service too. Don’t miss this place
The location and atmosphere are good. The food was tasty but the portion size was minuscule. We left hungry and with a bill that did not reflect our experience unfortunately.
Our food took over an hour to come to our table. The server never mentioned why it was delayed and completely skirted around the issue. We didn’t ask questions but it was obvious something was missed when we could clearly see other tables around us getting food who had arrived a half hour after us. It would have been great to have the situation acknowledged and an apology. Instead the comment was “your food should be right up, it seems like you guys are having a great conversation.” Disappointing.
Unfortunately, we had a horrible experience, especially with the staff. I had booked a reservation two weeks before Mother's Day and the staff had given our table away. They claimed it was because we were early, but we arrived 5 minutes before our reserved time (10:15AM) but the restaurant opened at 10AM. They quickly put a table together in the entryway but I asked if there was anything else available because we had two nearly 90-year-old people and it was drafty and not an ideal location. Throughout the entire meal, we received rude looks from the hostess and did not feel welcome. After the terrible service, we will not be returning after our experience.
We came here for mother’s day, and it was fabulous. They were busy, but well organized. The food was amazing and every one of the staff was helpful and friendly. The muffin donuts are a must have, as well as the Irish breakfast. Delicious. Great ambiance. Love that they take reservations, especially in Portland where they are non-existent for brunch. And last but not least, best Irish coffee I have ever had.
My pork chop dinner was easily one of the most well-composed dishes I've had in Portland. The flavors were multi-layer but distinct. The dishes are expensive, as you can see that from the website. As for value, I rate Raven & Rose very high.
5 star restaurant from start to finish. Our party of 4 was overly delighted by the varied appetizers, main dishes and desserts. The roasted beet salad was outstanding, the fillet melted in your mouth, and the end to a great dinner was the butterscotch pudding. Compliments to the chef,we will return!
Great food but limited choices. We were surprised to find two veggie entrees, two game (well, venison and rabbit) entrees and three domestic mammal meat entrees backed by a fish of the day; but no fowl. Given the theme of British ambience perhaps a Guinea fowl or Cornish game hen would fit. Salads were very good as were the entrees we selected (one veggie and a steak). The dessert and cappuccini capped off a very good meal. The wine by the glass menu could stand expansion and perhaps a few standards. It is a bit disconcerting to find the offered reds were but a Grenache and a Merlot backed by several Pinot Noirs. White wine by the glass was an even more meager selection. The table by the back bench was fixed to the floor (thus unmovably too far from the bench) and a bit of a reach - we are normal sized adults and found that the table was high (or the seats low) enough that one felt like a kid at the big folks table. Since there was a message taped to the table that, in effect, stated. . . it was not designed to be moved so don't attempt it . . . indicated that others must have tried to remedy this aspect. We will come again but will specify a regular table and hope for a better fit.
Excellent dinner. Will return soon.
Very good service .Thé Sheperd's Pie that was ordered was not a Sheperd.s pie as most people would expect, but it was a Beef Pot Pie, generous on the meat side, very poor on the vegetables side. It was very good! Maybe making an adjustment on the menu listing, by using the term " Beef Pot Pie", instead of "Sheperd's Pie. That will avoid the feeling of being quite disappointed.
Always a “best bet”, thank you fir another amazing meal! Wether it’s a nice dinner fir 2 or a business event furor 9, Thais place never disappoints
Excellent food. Acoustics create too much noise in my opinion.
The best dining experience of our Portland visit by far. Food was amazing, service pristine and friendly, and the setting of a beautifully restored carriage house unique and unforgettable. The upstairs bar is not to be missed either.
Service was good, food was fantastic! We were a little close to other ppl on either side of us, but not a huge deal.
The service was excellent. The atmosphere was very nice. Meals were good but they were over priced for what was delivered. We had the the fillet, the Gnocchi and a great Caesar salad. We like there lunches.
The service and food were excellent. They asked if we were there for a show and when we said no, the evening was relaxing and wonderful.
I hadn't seen my particular waitress in months and she still remembered that I always get oysters and that I have a dietary restriction. I was really impressed.
Served a table of ten flawlessly
LOVE LOVE LOVE!!!!!!!! I am obsessed with this place now.
Waiter was a great guy and very attentive. Meal was great but expect to eat a lot. Good place to share a plate if you need to lose weight but you will want to eat it all.
It was the first time we had dined there, and though we expected more of a "pub" atmosphere", it was nevertheless very pleasant. The menu was not extensive but was adventuresome with venison and octopus among the less familiar items. We snacked on appetizers and especially enjoyed the "flatbread" which would have been called "pizza" in a less trendy restaurant. The service was excellent and attentive. We'd definitely go back.
Consistently great which is why it's my "go to" restaurant for lunch business meetings.
Was a nice place to meet an old friend who is originally from the UK. Service was attentive. Food was good and price tad high but fine.
One of the most consistently excellent dinners we’ve enjoyed in Portland over the last five years. Fish and lamb were terrific—perfectly prepared. Ambience is also excellent. Con: overpriced. Dinner for two here you’ll easily spend $50-$60 more than you would at another comparable restaurant.
Thoughtfulness reigns at Raven & Rose: taste, presentation, service, creativity, setting. In my most critical comment, I don't think I can come up with much to criticize. Delicious meal with great service in booth near the front door. Friday night prime time and it wasn't overbearing or loud. A wonderful setting for a meal with friends.
Always a great experience!
The pork chop and lamb dinner were very good, house red wind excellent.
Someone at your table should order the Curried Rabbit ($32), a chili confit of rabbit leg and thigh, cabbage, carrot, potato, cippolini, coconut curry. Rich, intense flavor, yet the coconut curry isn't too 'curry-ie' — more like a complex gravy with character. Needs a substantial beer or deep red. My son had the Grass-fed Filet of Beef ($42) with wilted chard, onion jam, bordelaise & Yorkshire pudding. He said it was the best piece of beef he has ever eaten. Enjoy!
Had kind of a perfect meal... caesar salad with plump anchovies, fillet done as requested with mushroom sauce and a big old yorkshire puddin pie and butterscotch pudding for dessert. Juuuuuusssssst right.
Excellent beet salad, perfect blend of flavors and textures! Love the breads by Ken’s Artisan Bakery also.
We love Raven and Rose. It is a great place for a romantic dinner without being too formal. The food is excellent, and creatively executed. The cocktails are interesting and well-made. It is not inexpensive, but it makes for a fine date night. Generally in the past our service has been attentive; the restaurant seemed understaffed on our recent visit, and we waited almost 20 minutes for our cocktails to arrive. Afterwards, service improved.
We particularly enjoyed the beetroot salad and the rack of lamb. The "Eton Mess" for dessert was a delicious surprise, and the butterscotch pudding is a real treat.
I recommend the Raven and Rose, and we will be glad to eat there again.
Love this place. Great environment, great food and great service
I love this restaurant so much. Their meat dishes are outstanding (veggie options are more hit and miss), with standouts being the chicken liver mouse, venison, steak with Yorkshire pudding and seasonal roasts (pork chop and lamb are excellent when they have them!). Standout cocktails make this place a regular date night venue for us.
The appetizer was great. My entree was good (fish). Other ordered rabbit, lamb and steak. My friends said lamb was good, steak was ok.
The Lamb rib, venison, and filet were perfectly cooked and some of the best meat I have had in a long time. Oysters were perfectly shucked and fresh. It was one of the best Caesar salads I've ever had. The service was not intrusive and patient with my mother's long selection process.
The meat is delicious.
We enjoyed our meal and the fact that the noise level was low enough that we were able to have a good conversation without having to raise our voices and strain to hear. The food choices were good and everything was delicious. We will definitely return.
The food was outstanding for our lunch. Service was slow, perhaps since the restaurant was full. The acoustics made it possible to carry on an easy, private conversation and that alone puts it at the top of my list for a pleasurable meal.
It's hard to make British and Irish food taste good, but Raven and Rose did it! I've had a lot of full Irish and full English breakfasts before this was the best black pudding I've ever had. So good! White pudding was great too - and the fadge! Yum.
Super nice, attentive staff - even on a busy St. Patrick's Day! :)
This was my third time at Raven & Rose and the first time I'd had anything less than an amazing experience.
I believe they must have changed stuff up in the kitchen as in addition to having to send our sausage back to be properly cooked, we also had some pretty underwhelming hollandaise.
There were still some definite high notes, the host made up for the flighty attentions of our server, the tea menu and serving remains delightful and most components of the Full English and Full Irish we ate were spot on (black pudding and white pudding in particular), with delicious fage and lovely mushrooms.
I think I just hold this place to a higher standard. I will come again though.
