Raven & Rose
We also believe that everything is better when it is handmade. We are dedicated to making everything that we can in-house, daily and by hand. Our kitchen produces fresh pastas, pastries, crackers, soups and sauces. We butcher steaks, roasts, rabbits, birds, and fish in-house everyday. We believe it is all worth the effort, and we hope you will taste the difference!
Pretty good food and ambiance. Some of the worst service I’ve experienced in Portland unfortunately. It took a very long time for anyone to check on us after we sat down, then after we ordered, the food took a really long time which I’ve definitely experienced in Portland before and if that were the extent of it, I wouldn’t be writing this review. We had to ask what the specials were because our waitress was not about to. Nobody checked on us for the long while that it took for our food to come out. After our food came out and we finished our meals, it took an extra 30 minutes for anyone to come grab our dirty plates. It was a special occasion so we wanted dessert. After waiting forever, we had to ask for the dessert menu from someone who was actively walking away from our table. The dessert took an extra 30 minutes to come out. Then of course like 30 more minutes before our dessert plate was taken away. I just couldn’t believe how bad this was. I’ve been to many restaurants in Portland, even ones that were jam packed and slow and I have to say this was the worst service I’ve ever experienced. They weren’t even very busy when we were there. The food was fine but for 1 appetizer, 2 entrees, and 1 dessert our total was $150 and I have to say that the experience really really wasn’t worth it.
Excellent food and super service. Very creative specials, we loved the seafood board and the seasonal melon bowl was great. The host and our waitress were very accommodating and genuinely friendly.
The food, ambience and atmosphere was delightful. I would return and recommend this restaurant to my friends.
My darling and I celebrated our twelfth anniversary at Raven & Rose, chosen because we met when we were living in Ireland. The food was just out of this world. Ingredients so fresh and perfectly composed of delicious and beautiful flavors and colors. The menu was perfect, small but varied, with good choices for vegetarians. We had theater tickets so had only an hour to dine. My one regret was not having time for dessert. We returned after the play to check out the bar upstairs, but were too tired to stick around. I wish they took better care of their tables. We sat in one of their lovely booths. Our table was badly damaged with a crack and big spot of missing varnish. Otherwise, a perfect night out!
Raven and Rose will always be one of my favorite restaurants in Portland. Food that you will not find except if you are traveling in Europe can be found here. All portions are generous and mixed drinks are good.
Great service. Nice job handling old bottles of wine that i brought in for dinner. Food was wonderful. Pace
If food to table was right on! Made our anniversary dinner with kids very special!!
Jessica made sure that everything was perfect for our parent’s wedding anniversary!
As always, everything was great! I haven't been in a couple of years because I moved to wine country, but am glad I met my friend there. She had the Bean Toast, and at every bite she said, "Yum, it's SO good!" I had the Beef Hash, and I don't know what they do to it to make every bite so flavorful, but I loved it!
The food was delicious, as was the service. Great date night spot.
Incredible food, great atmosphere. Plan to go again for special occasions.
Went on a Sunday and expected a full lunch menu and was informed that they only serve brunch on Sundays. We were definitely disappointed but still had a good experience.
Food was amazing and seating plentiful which is very appreciated in a city where brunch is very popular.
Every standard of service and quality is met every time I visit this restaurant. Their staff is genuine in their desire to serve and their product is outstanding. In the restaurant business it takes more than just one element or even two to create an overall "experience." Over the years I have found that the house that is Raven and Rose consistently hits it out of the park. They work hard at their craft and it shows.
Limited menu, noisy music, excellent service, food was excellent, wine very expensive for a house wine
The green salad on the dinner menu needed more vinaigrette dressing...it was hardly dressed at all. The chicken liver pate starter and the salmon special were excellent. Very welcoming host. We'll return.
Dinner before chamber music. Attentive staff helped to meet timeline and needs of elderly friend.
e excellent but it was noisy. Hard to carry on a nice quiet conversation over a delicious meal.
This was my first time ever at Raven and Rose. There was a very large table next to us that clearly took precedence over us, and in fact, our waitress even eluded to this fact when we asked where our food was after 45 minutes and a gentleman who was seated after we had put in our food order received his food and finished eating in the time before we received our food. When we asked the waitress about our food, she never apologized for the long wait. She did compensate us for our first drink. However in the time we waited we would have liked to order more drinks,
which we were never asked.Needless to say, I don't intend to ever go back. There are far too many great food options in Portland to waste my time on this place.
Cute, modern brunch spot in the middle of downtown Portland. Great food and drinks! Little pricey, but worth the visit.
Raven & Rose is pretty much perfect. We went for brunch on a Sunday morning and the food was delicious. The Full English Breakfast will leave you feeling full all day. It's incredible. You must substitute the toast for the English muffin. It's a perfect English muffin.
The full Irish breakfast was even better than the ones we had in Ireland. My husband and I have only been here twice, but it's excellent!
Great food and nice space. Wait staff seemed to be new. Waiter did not know the menu, and was pretty uncoordinated with the hostess. Several missteps in getting things to our table, but overall a very nice evening.
All was wonderful ...
...except the vibrations throughout the entire dinner. It bothered my dinner guest so much we left rather than linger over an after dinner drink, said it upset her stomach. I had the bench seat, she had the chair on the slate flooring. Her feeling the vibrations was much stronger than my searing. My previous dining there I had not felt the vibrations, boy this time did we ever!!! We sat the second small table fron the door.
Next time I dine at Raven and Rose is there a better place to be seated so we don’t feel the vibrations so much.
Another great dinner. Thanks very much!
The music was weird compared to the atmosphere of the rest of the place
We ate in the upscale restaurant downstairs. The food was good - I had an excellent Caesar salad and a vegetable dish that was quite tasty, and my wife had he tomato bisque and a seasonal salad. The bisque was initially brought only lukewarm and had to be sent back, and my wife never did get the additional bread she ordered. The service was lackadaisical at best - despite it not being very busy. I didn’t think it was a good value - it’s certainly not inexpensive, and for those kind of prices I think you can do better in downtown Portland. If we were to go back, we’d try the upstairs pub.
I'm so sorry............but the dish we came for, pictured and advertised on Fathers Day ad, wasn't available. I know you were busy , but it took 20 minutes to put in an order, another 25 to get it.
Food was lukewarm, and part of what I ordered was missing. I had to hunt down a server to address the issue. I expect a lot better for a $16.00 per plate brunch.
We went for Father's Day Brunch. It's the first time I've been in the restaurant instead of the Rookery. The staff were friendly, efficient and responsive. The food was good. The ambience allowed for us to sit and have good conversation while we waited for our food.
Delicious donut muffins to start. Husband enjoyed eggs Benedict and I had the lovely beans on toast - both were very good!!
We came for an early dinner before the show. It was so loud - it was very difficult to hear the other side of our table of four, even before the restaurant was full. The food was very good, but the venison was a laughably small amount - especially given the price it commanded.
The service was prompt and efficient even offering the bill in time to get to the Opera (we'd lost track of time!) The cocktails were great--a Vieux Carre is a difficult drink to make properly and theirs was perfect! The food was delicious, generously portioned but not too much.
Great place for date night!
Mediocre experience started with the hostess said "you are late" when we arrived at 6:10 for a 6:00 reservation and she seated us in the worst possible table just inside the front door in a half empty dining room. Food and table service wasn't bad but very average and nowhere near what one would expect for the price. Overall perception may have been different if we hadn't started off on the wrong foot at the hostess desk. We almost did, and probably should have, left right then.
Always order the fish! The Chef does an excellent job balancing flavors
Good food and good service in a friendly place. Recommend highly for lunch and dinner.
This is the first time I've enjoyed lunch at Raven & Rose and it was delightful! My friend and I both ordered the BLTA sandwich and loved it. The bread is amazing and the avocado was fresh and tasty and really enhanced the flavor of the cooked just right bacon. The waitress was attentive but not overly so and kept our water glasses filled. I would definitely come back and have already recommended this restaurant to my co-workers.
Our dinner was very good overall. My steak was outstanding and my wife enjoyed her fish. Service was good and we would be glad to return. We were celebrating her birthday and had mentioned it in the Open Table reservation, however there was no mention of it before, during or after. A little disappointing.
The dinner was fantastic, as were the cocktails. Sitting and the bar in front of the pizza oven was like dinning in front of a fireplace. It was a very enjoyable evening.
The food and service were excellent. It can be a bit noisy though. Our wait person was cognizant of the fact that we were going to a performance and everything was done promptly without feeling rushed and yet mad us feel comfortable about timing. I will definitely return.
