The building itself is utterly charming, inside and out. The service was impeccable, yet friendly and not at all stuffy. The food was very good, not life changing, but not at all disappointing. I’ll be going back just because of the delicious breads, popovers, and herb butter. We didn’t love our cocktails (watermelon basil Caipirinha, and something with gin and grapefruit), next time I’ll stick with wine. Definitely go for the good food and very special atmosphere.
An elegant night out but not stuffy. Good variety of excellent dishes , even if some were too adventurous for some of us. Attentive staff who explained clearly the special features of some of the plates. Like dining as guests of the owner of a luxurious but tasteful manor house in the countryside just a few miles from the train station.
Excellent!!! Service, Food, ambience! My girlfriend and I had a great experience! Thank you!
It was a busy Friday and our table was ready and the atmosphere was just great
Of the 4 of us, two of our entrees were not hot — tasty but just not served at the correct temperature so that was a disappointment. Also,
The wrong wine was delivered,
The burger was just ok and Our fries were also not hot
Once the dining room was less busy, the wait staff was more attentive. Not at all like my previous visits.
Some of my former colleagues decided to get together and needed a place to go for our first gathering. I recalled my daughter making an arrangement and bringing me here last year and i informed the group. They were hesitant because of the name but when they arrived, they were amazed. We had a fantastic time and the food and service was exemplary. We were told there was a new chef who just started and have not completed his own menu but he did a wonderful job on his predecesor's menu. Their homemade bread, their spread, selection of wine was all tasteful and we look forward to going many more times.
Our waitress and all the staff were wonderful. We weren’t asked where we preferred to sit and would have loved to sit outside. Our table was by a door and next to the service station so it was busy and noisy. Our table wasn’t wiped clean and was quite sticky.
Food and desserts were delicious and we will return.
I always try to dine here when we have out of town and out of the country guests. Frankly we have not been to Rats since last year or so and now we are pleased with a very nice menu to choose from for lunch. Had a generous serving of salmon appetizer which was enough for lunch. Hamburger was a delightful delicious perfect lunch. Vegetable tart with side salad was great. Chicken salad was ok. Chocolate dessert was so yummy with combination of true dark chocolate, caramel and crunch. Non alcoholic beverages of pear and ginger, watermelon and strawberry “lemonade” were so refreshing.
We will return. So glad the food is getting better.
Thoroughly enjoyed the outdoor seating and setting. Provençal Mezze appetizer was delicious as were the popovers! Will definitely return.
The grounds are gorgeous and we will most definitely return for drinks and maybe an appetizer. Service was poor and food was okay.
Wonderful restaurant on the grounds of the Grounds for Sculpture.
Set adjacent to the rest of the Grounds for Sculpture there are several sculptures visible from the restaurant. The grounds of the restaurant have the feel of a French village. Two seating areas, the Lounge and the main dining room (also some outdoor seating).
We sat in the lounge, it was nice, cozy and in my opinion a bit more intimate than the main dining room.
Excellent French inspired dishes. Different enough to be outside of what you will find elsewhere but not so bizarre that you have no idea what you are eating. I had the Steak which was absolutely delicious. It was cooked perfectly, served with kale and baby potatoes. For an app I had a special with prosciutto, fresh melon, honey and basil, which was also delicious. My wife loved her bass dish.
We will definitely go back there. The only minor complaint is that they didn't acknowledge the special occasion from my Open Table Reservation. (I wasn't looking for anything free, but a "Happy Anniversary" would have been a nice touch.
Rats is our go-to restaurant for special occasions and times in between when we want a wonderful dinner with perfect ambiance.
I have been. wanting to dine at this restaurant for a while I brought my husband here to celebrate Father's Day. He really enjoyed the ambience, wonderful food, and great service. We will be returning again.
Got stuck in the back room that had an unpleasant musty smell. Waiter looked like a deer in the headlights and the food was an issue. Two of the four meals had problems. One of the meals was served cold but should’ve been hot and the other was served hot and should have been cold. Also, the sandwich I ordered as a replacement was served on a stale croissant. Just not up to par.
The advantage here is being next to the Grounds for Sculpture bu the food is subpar and if you go on a busy weekend the restaurant is ill-equipped to deal with the demand. The servers were fine but waiting 30 minutes between the entree and desert was not acceptable. Nothing extraordinary about the food, of the seven people at our table only two thought their entree was above average.
Our lunch was excellent. Our waiter Joe was the best. Explained every item on the menu. We will definitely return.
The best restaurant experience in NJ
Great food as always. Wish there was better lighting in the patio for evening dining. Also they really need to clean the tables with a better glass cleaner or get different tables..the beautiful dishes presented in a cloudy glass table was very unappealing. The ambience and food is worth every penny though..
Had a wonderful dinner celebrating our anniversary! The atmosphere, cuisine, desserts and wait staff made it memorable. It is our favorite place to come back to again and again. Recommend it to everyone!
This was our first time at the restaurant. While the food was very good, and delivered on all that was promised on the menu, our overall impression was soured by our treatment upon arrival. We asked about a parking valet, and were told that they only have them on holidays. However, there had been a wedding that day, so there was no nearby parking. My husband basically had to park at the UPS facility down the road. Wouldn't having a wedding mean you need to make parking accommodations? While I waited for him, I heard a regular ask for outdoor seating. So I asked where we'd be seated, and was told we'd be upstairs, next to the lovely French doors on the terrace. Sounded nice. We were actually next to the fireplace, across the room from the French doors, which only had a view of the roofline. You could only see outdoors if you stood up and went out on the terrace.
We enjoyed our meal, but didn't find it special compared to what's near us in New Hope. Overall, not worth the 40 minute drive each way for nice food that didn't overcome the initial bad impression.
Great atmosphere and food.
We had a wonderful lunch at Rats where the food was delicious and the view was lovely and relaxing.
Great experience to walk the Grounds of Sculpture & be welcomed to be a part of Monet’s Water Lilies setting! Don’t forget to take a picture on the bridge. Sit outdoors to take it all in! Delicious French food - surprisingly good vegetarian options. They need to use better glass cleaner for tables though.
We had a great time enjoying happy hour and a wonderful dinner. A very delightful atmosphere soft lighting and the conversations of diners doesn't seem to be loud and obnoxiously annoying. We will be back
It is a great place to visit. Food was great. If you go to Grounds for Sculpture you have to visit the restaurant.
While the food was just fine and the service attentive and polite we felt that it just wasn't a good value. By that I mean the quality of the food didn't justify the price of the meal. Others might find it just great. I would recommend the restaurant with the caveat to expect a hefty bill.
The food was OK but service was horrible. Waited a long time for food. Steve, a waiter was very impolite, ignored all our requests and generally ignored our table. Left the restaurant absolutely unsatisfied.
Beautiful unique place. Ate late lunch in a Saturday. Very busy, location seated very loud, disturbing.
The atmosphere is good. The service was excellent. The drinks were delicious. The food was ok.
If you're planning a day the Grouds for Sculpture, it is definitely worth making a reservation, but don't set the food bar too high.
Consistently one of our regional favorites. Food and ambiance are wonderful. Sometimes service is a little off, but still can’t be beat in the area. Leave time for a walk in the sculpture garden.
beautiful place for a get-together with friends. Apps were good (we had the cheese plate and cold cuts). Drinks were ok, nothing really special. Entrees were also good (we had the trout and the steak; both were cooked right). Desserts were alright, nothing much to rave about (we had the creme brulee and the chocolate torte). The creme brulee was better; the choc torte seemed a bit dry (would have been better if the ganache was not separate from the cake). After lunch, we had a great time just admiring the small garden behind it. Great for photo ops. The main sculpture garden was separate and requires a fee. We didn't have time so we just admired and took pictures in the small garden and the front of the restaurant.
Even though it took an unusually long amount of time for us to be greeted and served after being seated, our overall experience was good. The French onion soup was the most memorable dish!
Very nice place to relax and enjoy good food in an excellent setting.
Food okay but I was brought the wrong dish which I said I would eat anyway because I didn't my friend have to wait.
Great destination as far as Grounds For Sculpture but not as good as it had been years ago.
Presentation of food was poor.
My daughter and I enjoyed a lovely early lunch on the terrace overlooking the water. Our server was very sweet and attentive, our food was delicious, and we were not rushed. So glad we decided to try Rats and I look forward to visiting again.
The bread and butter were phenomenal, and the waitstaff was attentive and helpful. However, I thought the menu was creative but overpriced. The food was good and beautifully presented but for those prices, I expected excellent and the only thing that was excellent was the bread. Wish I'd had more and skipped the entry.
For the cost of the plates they could include more grain and vegetables with the fish.
Also the Swiss Chard had crunchy sand in it and almost ruined my teeth!
Overall beautiful spot to eat...just needs more adjustment on the dinner plate.
Delicious food, superb service (Brian), and a glorious setting in the Grounds for Sculpture. Highly recommended.
Great ambience and good Service. French dip was very good. Crab, shrimp seafood salad was light on the seafood and dressing, otherwise very good.
Not what it used to be. Needs a good cleaning and fresh paint.
