Rats Restaurant - Grounds for Sculpture Ratings and Reviews
Below average food for the price. Lobster not cooked to completion and strip steak was supposed to be dry aged but the quality was that of a choice super market steak. For the price it should have been larger and a prime cut.
Service and atmosphere was excellent as always. The place is beautiful. They need to upgrade the quality of the product that they put out. We do not have a problem with the pricing, just need to match it with good quality food.
I took my wife here for her birthday. We have been to Rats several times and it has only gotten better each time we been there. The food was outstanding. We had a great time at the bar prior to sitting down. Our server was great.
Looking forward to our next meal at Rats.
Food was good. Ambience is always good. Service was poor. Not once was the glass of water refilled. Tried to draw attention but the bill was paid and nobody even looked in our direction. Simple things matter. Devil is in the details. Disappointed with the service. Expected it to be better.
We are never disappointed at RATS! Before dinner we enjoyed a cocktail in the bar, where the waitress could not have been friendlier or more helpful. In the dining room our waiter was equally pleasant and the service was excellent. The squash salad was wonderful and my duck breast was cooked to perfection. My husband thoroughly enjoyed his monk fish. Of course one of the highlights is always the popovers served with dinner.
menu not very inspired. other than the hummus which is always good, the rest needs improvement in scope, variety and preparation as it is mediocre at best. Husband's croque madame was tasteless and cold as were the fries. Someone forgot the sauce. My seafood salad was lacking in seafood and had a very acidic dressing which did not seem compatible with the seafood. I did not eat it. The wild boar was replaced with beef whose description did not match the reality of the presentation. Those were the highlights. It was not a full house so the inattention to detail unforgivable. Our server was very good, however. Doubtful we will return for dining. The food should match the venue.
Beautiful atmosphere. Dined previously for lunch, and was looking forward to our anniversary dinner. First hiccup of the night was no parking. My husband and I circled the lot multiple times, and ended up parking on the main road. Walking in high heels was not fun. When I made the reservation, I communicated we were celebrating our anniversary and would appreciate a table that would reflect that. We were sandwiched at a 2 top between 2 larger parties.
Service was excellent (not outstanding), and the food was very good. My halibut was bland for my taste, so I feel I did not make the right choice. Our waitress highly recommended it as a "complete dish". It would have been helpful to mention that it was not highly seasoned. The duck confit salad and onion soup were delicious. My husband ordered the pork shank and was happy with his choice. The bread and popovers are wonderful.
We would go back, however something needs to be done about the parking situation, and I would not accept that table again. On reflection, should have said we'd wait as some cozy booths and larger tables against the wall opened pretty quickly.
The service, the noise level, the food and the ambiance is wonderful.
A very picky detail: warm the bread and always have a simple entree and dessert...not
everything has to have an unusual "touch". We enjoyed the panna cotta but fennel sherbert
was just okay.....or offer a choice.
All four of us with diverse food preferences enjoyed the dinner. Three of us had the pre fix which had good options and nice portions. The popovers are really good . The service was good. A bit of confusion with ordering coffee. it seems if you don't order quickly your server may leave the table not realizing you were thinking about what you wanted.
In general very good.
Always a joy! The Prix Fixe menu is different and covers all tastes. Two of us ordered the poached salmon, but unfortunately the kitchen ran out of it. It was replaced with a very tasty trout covered in artichokes, and I believe it was better than the salmon (not average). The chef wanted to send out dessert to apologize for the error, but we'd already made ourselves full with the wonderful dinner. He came out and chatted with us instead, what fun! Great time, wonderful start to a long holiday season ~
We’ve heard so much about it- was happily impressed- the cheese plate was really good- is heard the duck was good but wast crazy about it- just the breast- no bone -‘which I always like due to the tendor meat near bones- was just ok - good sauce! Desserts were outstanding! We had the “shaved fois grai “ not so good although it was described to us - we didn’t really like it. Having said all that it really was a lovely place - great service- beautiful surrounding - I was also hoping for trout but they didn’t have it- it’s usually a lunch item I was told. A friend had the chicken - ugg forgot the name! Red wine sauce - it was FANTASTIC!! Hubby had the Guinny Hen- also good! Will go back and try more!
Went there for our anniversary. The service (Ryan) was great and very attentive and prompt. We ordered the five cheeses app, and they were all great. Went with the Halibut for my entree and it was delicious. The only negative was the roaste mushroom side, which we both thought was bitter. We both ordered dessert and loved it. Would go back in a heartbeat.
The restaurant was very pleasant. We arrived just before sunset early enough to walk the grounds. Grounds for Sculpture was beautiful with the changing colors of fall and the eeryness of dusk with the sculptures being illuminated, not worth the emmission though. Contribution should have been voluntary. The reataurant was great. Had cocktails at the bar next to the fire place. Bloody mary and martini, perfect! We were seated next to a window with a view but the reataurants interrior was all you needed for atmosphere. Waitress was attentative but not overbearing. Her recommendations were spot on. Tuna tartar was good but was more like poke. French Onion soup was perfect and just the right amount. I had the short rib and ny date had the duck breast. Rib was melt in your mouth fork tender and the sauce reminded me of a sherry au poivre. Duck was like eating a fine tenderloin. We had a nice salad and she served us bread of our choice along with pop overs that I would return just for them. Hot flaky and moiste. Our plates were sopped clean. We didnt have desert althoug it sound great. Instead after dinner cordials and capuchino which she brought us 2 Madelines to dunk. Perfect. We will be returning how ever we will save the grounds for a spring trip when we can hang out longer.
The setting for RATS is charming; the ambiance a huge plus. While we were a small group, some of us ordered the same sandwich and it proved to be a disappointment (juices from the veggie slaw made the sandwich soggy). The portion of meat could also have been larger. Other entrees looked far better.
Great meal overall! Food was amazing!
Only downside, asked to eat at table outside was told they only had tables for big groups. 10 mins later they sat the same size party as us outdoors. I have no issues if it was reserved for that group but be up front about it.
