We’ve heard a lot about the restaurant and were looking forward to the experience. Disappointing. The ambience reminded me of Disney world. The wine and cheese selection were very good - the best part of the meal. The French onion soup was lukewarm and I’ve had better in many places. The sirloin steak and the scallops were also served cold. They were ok. The lamb shank and duck were both tasty meals. But not amazing. We’ve heard so many great things about the desserts. They were also ok. The chocolate pomegranate Icecream was terrible. Actually inedible. Friendly server, but a so-so experience at best.
Love the place
Beautiful views, like being in Monet’s garden. Enjoyed a delicious spinach soup and a salad of butter lettuce and radish with a delicious dressing - had mustard in it. Loved the setting. Tasted the Mezcal Old Fashioned, which was great. A great ending to a perfect day.
Our lunch, including food and service, was excellent.
Took my wife here for our 4 year anniversary. Place is awesome! The decor, the set up, the staff! Mayner was my waiter, great guy, funny, knowledgeable and very helpful. At the end of the night when they brought our dessert out it said "Happy Anniversary" written in icing on the plate! The staff really goes beyond for the patrons! I WILL be returning to this establishment!
Lovely. Grounds for Sculpture were just marvelous, and this restaurant feels as if it grew there! Charming, unique, cozy, welcoming. Loved all the nooks and crannies within and its sweeping garden approach.
Went with a group of 10 for a birthday celebration. Our waiter was very attentive considering our large group and we never had to wait long for anything. Everyone in our party loved their selections and no one left disappointed. Highly recommend this place for any occasion.
My second time visiting Rats and it did not disappoint. Excellent food, presentation, courteous staff, magnificent location.
Took mom for her 87th birthday. Gave her lots to look at and great food.
Enjoyable. Beautiful patio setting overlooking pond. Drinks were good.
Had a wonderful experience first time there. Food & service were wonderful. It was very cold in the Morracon Room which made it uncomfortable during our lunch. Otherwise a great experience!
We really enjoyed our experience. Rob made my friend’s birthday a memorable one, assuring that she had a delicious scoop of ice cream with an artistic chocolate Happy Birthday on the plate despite her stern protestations to the contrary.
My only disappointment was that despite making an outdoor reservation well in advance having missed the opportunity my first visit, there was no available outdoor seating upon our arrival and the only option was a substantial wait time.
After a stroll on the grounds, it was the perfect way to end the evening. Food was delicious.
We had a great lunch with a wonderful. The service was impeccable. We loved it.
we were very disappointed in the service and quality of the food.
we were so unhappy with the experience except the setting
Loved the onion soup of yesteryear..what happened to the recipe?
Our waiter left us for awhile and we thought forgot about us each time to put in our order and then to put in for dessert . I had to waive the waitress that was working the same room to get him and to tell him we wanted to order desserts . I had to do the same thing when we were done our desserts and sitting there for awhile . The food was great , I was just disappointed in the service and we were not rushing at all since we already did the grounds . For the $ amount we should not have to wave down for service or sit for a long time with dirty dishes in front of us . This is my 3rd time and my first 2 experiences were great. My sister who I took for the first time actually said , "have you seen our waiter ?"
Great food delicious staff great atmosphere
Tasting menu with wine pairing was fantastic. While it was a little pricey it was well worth it. Beautiful table and room upstairs. Multiple staff members acknowledging our anniversary was a nice touch.
Wait staff service left a lot to be desired - sat for a long time with no contact after our appetizers were finished. When arrived all meals were cold and had to be sent back. Been here many times but never had situation like this before. Manager (Michael) did his best to make situation right. Certainly not the experience I expect at Rats.
My husband and I went there with my friend couple, double dating. 😉 We had a wonderful afternoon strolling in Grounds for Sculpture, then dining in Rats Restaurant. Thought we could enjoy the night view there after dinner, the weather was misty and only few people left after dark.
Food and service are so good. The only thing down side is the wine price is a bit high, 3 times higher than retail price. Otherwise, I’d give it 5 stars straight.
I went because it had a reputation for the setting and the food. Food was fine but not great. Overpriced, small portions. Did nothing special even though I noted it was a birthday celebration.
Excellent atmosphere. Good service but food was very slow to come out. Food was very good. Highly recommended.
everything was good until my friend asked for more salad dressing and was given a spicy type that she could not eat. she was given a different meal.
Wonderful lunch and quaint setting. Service was fantastic
The environment was beautiful the food was amazing and the staff was excellent.
We went to Rats for a birthday celebration. It was unfortunate that there was a wedding reception going on the same night. It wasn’t over the top but did make us feel that we were on intrusion...not exactly what you want on a special occasion of your own.
Our waiter was kind and prompt. The food was good but not spectacular, given the prices. There are so many great options in the area that we were surprised that this didn’t quite make the grade. The setting is beautiful though and on another night when the best part of the place isn’t taken up with a wedding, we might give it another try.
Excellent set-up inside Grounds for sculpture park. It is French restaurant though prices are not exorbitant. Service is very good. Best if you can sit outside and you can see Monet's garden, pond, bridge in front of you.
We enjoyed unique tasty dishes and irresistible desserts. Wonderful ambiance.
The restaurant is set adjacent to the Grounds for Sculpture, a 43 acre sculpture garden and museum in Hamilton, NJ. The park's exhibits include sculptures by distinguished artists embedded into landscape designs that are incredible.
Rats provides indoor, and al fresco dinning. Both face a spectacular view...a landscape/horticultural recreation of The Water Lily Pond, by Claude Monet.
The water noted that all meals are prepared from scratch and therefore it is easy to accommodate dietary needs.
Nice weather to have a pleasant lunch on the patio. Love being at the Grounds.
A bit over priced for the amount of food ...when I order fish for lunch at $19 I expect a salad to be included.or at lease a starch..not just a very small vegetable portion.
My friends got the seafood salad with only 3 shrimp and a small amount of crab. Fortunately one of the servers walked by and we asked for more, which he was kind enough to bring.
When our food was removed the individual took everything but our water. He could have left the bread and butter and plates.
He could have asked us.
Our server was thoughtful and helpful.
Restaurant ambiance was nice to end tour of Grounds for Sculpture. Food was was okay but not great, and overpriced for lunch quality. Server was not especially friendly and service was a little slow. Would not go out of my way for this restaurant. Will probably not return.
We enjoyed a late lunch and while the food was very good, there were a few serious missteps in service. I do not think this is the waitresses fault, but rather the general organization of the services. It took quite a while for drinks to come from the bar. During our meal we order another round and one of our champagne cocktails was only 1/2 full. We mentioned it to the waitress and she stated that she noticed that too. They compensated us the drink but it should not have been served that way. Our dessert was served and we finished it before our coffees were even delivered. Other than these two items, the view was very good, the food was well prepared and we enjoyed the experience.
Overall we thought Rats was very good ... only complaint we had is the noise level and traffic through the dining area we were seated in. Food was very good.
We have been going to Rats Restaurant for Years for special occasions with Family and Friends! This Sunday, for my Brother visiting from Switzerland, was to celebrate his Birthday,we where really disappointed by most everything from a dirty glass table outside to service with an attitude, because I asked to please remove our dirty appetizer plates and Bowles before placing our lukewarm Maine plates in front of us! It took almost 20 min.for our appetizers to be brought to us!
I understand that they where overwhelmed with Weddings and Brunch, then don't take on Reservations that cant be handled in their well known style!
Food was very good. We were seated very timely and the service was great. A bit overpriced but since the food was so good didn’t totally mind.
Wonderful experience. They were very helpful to accommodate a disability issue, and the wait staff was friendly and helpful
Overall a great dining experience for all occasionas. Goid food. Great views. Service was good. Food comes quickly. Staff is knowledgeable. Little dirty and perhaps time for new chair covers.
Lovely place and delicious food. Appreciate the locally sourced food and the ambiance was really lovely.
Never thought I'd say ' Peas they looked dead. Except for the view and the fun of having a cousins reunion, this lunch was forgettable.
