Rats Restaurant - Grounds for Sculpture
While conviently located to the Grounds for Sculpture, Rats was not worth the hefty price tag. The Easter brunch buffet was located inconveniently in the kitchen. The food offered was not very interesting. Quite run of the mill. No interesting flavor pairings or use of spices. Two of the desserts were so sour that they were inedible. We will not be returning.
We ate there for Easter brunch. There was a nice variety of breakfast and lunch foods. We were seated at 4pm and the last seating was at 5pm and there was a wonderful spread still available with no hint of being rushed. Service was very attentive with our beverages. The dessert area had the perfect size portions to be able to try a little of everything. Well worth the money especially on Easter.
This was an Easter Buffet - very different because everything was in the kitchen. This made for a unique and fun experience. We were the last seating of the day. So some of the food was not hot or refurbished. Overall everyone liked their food and the experience of the buffet being in the kitchen.
Unbelievable Easter brunch, fresh food, no crowds, perfect seating outside on a beautiful warm day. Amazing!!
Rats, and the entire Trenton Grounds for Sculpture is truly an escape in heart of Trenton!
I thought the menu was very limited for the reputation this place has. The grounds and ambiance were wonderful but I was expecting a bit more complexity for food offerings. The carrot cake was the strangest we’ve ever had with a crepe “cake” and surrounded by carrot “jello”. I would recommend this place for lunch but not for a dinner.
Excellent service, beautiful setting, but overpriced.
Most beautiful place to eat. Wonderful service. Food is very good.
Exceptional as always....my favorite restaurant...
Rats was amazing. From coming through the doors, until we walked out that night, everything was perfect. Service was impeccable! Our server, Jay has only been working there for 3 weeks he told us well into our meal. My husband and I were shocked because he was phenomenal, as if he had been the head server there for years. We were celebrating our anniversary and it was the first restaurant that we’ve been too that actually made a special night out feel special. I had the scallops and my husband had the duck confit, the brussel sprouts were delicious! Highly recommend! We cannot wait to go back and walk the grounds after! Thank you for an amazing and rare parents night out!!
First time here. Came for lunch to celebrate a birthday. We were seated in the Kabul room near the window/door so felt like outdoors though we were inside. The view was lovely, it was a sunny spring day.
Theme u seems small but the selections are great. Drinks were yummy. Bread and cream cheese butter were an awesome start. The soup was carrot ginger and the best I’ve had. The burger was fine. Fries crispy. Others has the ravioli and fresh dip and enjoyed both. We even splurged with dessert which they brought out with a candle and coffee. The lunch was long and leisurely which was fine for us that day. Its expensive but worth it for the experience.
Rats never ceases to exceed my expectations. Just love dining here.
It was wonderful
We had a great brunch, the drinks were delicious and the food was good. Our server was a good conversationalist and was fun.
Brunch at Rats is always a treat. The eclectic menu satisfied all 3 generations in our party.
Beautiful restaurant. Friendly staff. Go to the Grounds, but eat somewhere (anywhere) else. Maybe if you are going for breakfast it can be good. Wife had the ravioli and i had the steak. I've had better at Carrabba's...And that's for steak!
Used to have a very nice brunch. Gone. So am I from Rats, unfortunately.
Not really an authentic French restaurant as advertised, so was disappointed. However, it is a fun quirky place and service was exceptional, so not bad.
Food and wine were delicious. Atmosphere is top notch!
Very romantic and we were treated extremely well by hostess and wait staff
We have been to Rat’s Restaurant many times , especially for special occasions . Saturday was our Anniversary & Rat’s made our day very special. We love coming. Thank you for your excellent service.
The pork schnitzel was dry , small, and tasteless. The accompanying pieces of lettuce on top was worthless. The waiter brought me two sauces which improved 5he Neal, but it was not good. Very disappointing for my first visit.
We were a little load but they really took care of us. Stayed open a little later so we could walk part of the grounds. Will definitely go back again.
A Winner! Def order the Coq A Vin-like no other Ive ever had-the chicken melts in your mouth
Nice selection of wines and desserts are delectable
Celiac friendly as well!
I’ve been to Rats many times over the years, and as always the setting is very special in the garden and lovely inside. But, the food was spotty and overall disappointing. The menu choices were limited and uninspired at lunch. We chose a pork schnitzel dish that was heavy on the breading and over cooked and a chicken salad sandwich that was served on stale bread and was tasteless and dry. Our guests had ravioli which they enjoyed. We ordered a cheese course to begin and have with our cocktails ( which were delicious and well made), and it was skimpy for the price and delivered to the table without any explanation as to the cheeses. Deserts were excellent.
I sincerely hope the menu and food quality improves.
A visit to Grounds for Sculpture is not complete without a meal at Rat’s. We were seated inside but next to the opening for the patio. I enjoyed a glass of rose’, a chicken salad sandwich and a side order of fresh grilled asparagus. Everything was delicious and the service was great.
Gorgeous venue! A walk about the grounds is a must. My husband and I have been coming to Rats since its opening and this is the first time we were disappointed in the food. However, the fabulous service and view from our window table made up for the average fare.
Venue is spectacular.
Server friendly but very slow service. Said the kitchen was busy but the restaurant was barely 20% full. He said there were no private events going on. Duck salad pathetic with maybe 4 tiny shreds of duck meat. Burgers were good also the pasta and beet salad. Chocolate dessert was small but good.
We had a lovely afternoon even with the slow service and pathetic duck salad.
Door entry area was very musty and mildew smelling.
We had a mostly terrific meal and experience at Rats. The location is stunning and the wait staff are friendly and very accommodating. The duck confit salad and steak frites were excellent. We were not thrilled with the schnitzel and found it dry and lacking flavor. We also waited an inordinate amount of time between our first course and entrees but our server acknowledged this without our having to complain and compensated us appropriately. Overall, it was a very good experience and we plan to return and also will recommend the restaurant to others.
Beautiful setting if you sit out on the porch. Felt like we were on vacation.
Beautiful setting. We sat outside near the pond and that made the trip to Rats worth every penny. I had the frittata which was small for the price and rather bland, and came with a tiny arugula salad. I wouldn't order it again. My fellow diners very much liked their seafood salad, which did look delicious. The burgur was a hit as well and the taste of fries shared from that plate were tasty. I would go back and try it again, because it was a beautiful place to visit
Excellent food and our server was outstanding. The noise level was a bit high, primarily due to a group of diners who arrived a little later in the evening.
Wow! We did not know they had a second floor!
Front Of House excellent server was assigned to us. Then we had a team hovering over to make sure our experience was great.
Joined GFS and will be going back to Rats soon!
Try the French Onion Soup and the cheese tray.
I have been to Rats multiple times and it is always wonderful. The service is friendly and the food is delicious. We sat outside right by the water and the view of the gardens was incredible. I will certainly return.
Our last visit was disappointing. We were a table of 4–3 of our meals were good. The 4th was coq au vin
And not at all good—chicken was barely cooked, sauce more like gravy. One of us ordered carrot cake for dessert—very weird, a bit sour, not at all dessertlike. Also, only two side salads were available to order: duck and beet. This was unusual for us. We are normally more than satisfied.
We went to the establishment for our wedding reception. The cuisine was outstanding and service was excellent. My wife and I will be back again for another Rat experience!
Good, fresh food. Accommodated special diet needs. Very comfortable -- not rushed. Friendly and professional service.
We have been here numerous times and this is the first time we were disappointed in our food. Our entrees were served cold and the serving size was very small. It seems to attention to detail at this restaurant has declined. Hopefully this was a one-time bad experience.
Our food was delivered lukewarm at best. Server virtually disappeared after taking our dinner order. For the price we were all disappointed in the food. This was not our first visit but will definitely reconsider not returning.
