Rats Restaurant - Grounds for Sculpture
Service and food was excellent.
The food was great, the service, and the atmosphere were all perfect.
We ate at a table in the bar area and it was a wonderful experience in all aspects. Michael was our waiter and gave us remarkable service. We would recommend highly!
The food was amazing. Came quickly, and was absolutely delicious. We all finished our plates. The biggest issue was the server, it looks like he was overwhelmed with a 10 person party, and also had trouble with remembering individual orders, such as a drink order. He couldn’t remember the specials or the prices, and there were only two of them. Drinks were not timed well at all, we asked to have wine ready for dinner, which we did not receive until about 3/4 through the plate. He seemed overwhelmed, distracted, and not concerned.
if you are in the area, you must go. If you are not in the area, make a point to be. Beyond awesome experience.
Always a great time here!
Visited Rats for our anniversary. Had not been there in a long time and we were delighted to find it had returned to its roots of fine French cuisine. We had an excellent, knowledgeable server, Olivia. It was clearly her mission to ensure a lovely evening. We enjoyed a leisurely dinner in front of a wood fireplace. Cocktails were exceptional. We won’t wait as long to return again.
Quality of food was very good. Service was good despite apparent under-staffing. Setting of table was very conducive for conversation.
I really like Rats and its entrance to the Grounds for Sculpture. We have been before, but this is the first time we had a lunch reservation. It did not matter to the staff -- always professional and the food always perfect.
It was an amazing dinner. We had a lovely time, Stefannie was a wonderful server.
We love it here. We live an hour away and it’s worth the drive every single time. One of our all time favorites!!
Great food, service, and ambiance!! Highly recommend.
I am surprised that there is no pasta offered on the menu. I know that the intent is to cook a limited menu, and so it well, but no pasta dish … disappointing. The cauliflower steak didn't do it for me as a veggie item.
Always a nice experience and great meal! I would definitely recommend it!
Sadly this visit was not on par with our July dining experience. The menu is extremely limited and they were out of the Surf and Turf Special at 7pm on a Saturday night. We were told they were out of one of the menu items as well only to be told that there were 14 still available only for the waiter to disappear for an incredibly long time. We actually considered leaving.
We had higher expectations and left underwhelmed. The meal was good, but lacked seasoning overall. We had the Steak Frites, Cauliflower Steak and a Surf & Turk Special. The lobster tail was a little fishy. The Steak Frites was the best entree of the three.
We love Rats. The food is always excellent and we love the ambiance. For this visit our server was Olivia. She was delightful and we had fun interacting with her. Overall, another great experience at Rats.
Always enjoy my visit there with a friend or two. Love the soups! One of the reasons I got a GFS full membership.
My meal was disappointing and too expensive for what it was. Service was pleasant but slow.
Went for lunch to celebrate a birthday and enjoyed the afternoon. The food was very good and the ambiance was very nice. My only complaint, the pricing which was very expensive. Will have to limit this to very special occasions only.
The restaurant is really cool - the decor and ambiance is awesome. The staff is pleasant and very attentive. The food choices are excellent - especially the breakfasts - and the specialty cocktails are unique. Can't wait to return for a dinner soon @
Would have received 5 stars for food if they offered dinner on Sunday instead of lunch. Will be back again to try the dinner menu. Charming and eclectic!
Wonderful place. Great service and food. We arrived about 60-90 minutes before our reservation but were seated right away anyway. Only drawback was that the tables were incredibly close to school other which kinda kills any privacy.
When I made my reservation no one told me it would be a limited menu because it was the day after Valentine’s Day plus they were out of a few things there wasn’t a lot of choices for food appetizers
My husband and I love going to Rats. We were there the day after Valentine's day. Whenever we go we love to sit in the Bar room. This time we weren't so happy. They have moved the tables so close together that it is impossible to have a conversation without the next table hearing everything you are saying and vice Versa. It is not comfortable. Another thing is that that they have always had a limited menu which was fine but this time it seemed even more limited. Even though I did give this restaurant a high rating because our dinners were delicious in the end I was a bit disappointed.
Good food with a casual but fine dining atmosphere. The service staff was attentive but not overbearing. The sculpture grounds are a great side benefit for an overall great experience!
It was a little expensive but we did not hold back on the splurge for Valentines Day. The service was excellent and there was no rush - so we could leisurely enjoy our meal. My only complaint was since it was early in the day the bathroom had not been cleaned (will not detail) and was not exceptable for a restaurant of this caliber. Other than that, we hope to return soon.
We had a confirmed reservation for weeks but by the time we were ordering entrees, they had run out of all selections. It was Valentines day and my husband’s birthday and i had planned it for weeks. It was a limited menu due to Valentine’s day to begin with. The restaurant should have planned the kitchen supplies better.
We have been many times but this is the second time in a row that our food took over an hour. Several items on the very limited menu were long gone by the time we were seated. In the past we have really enjoyed going but the last two times left a lot to be desired. I hope they get the place back to how wonderful it used to be.
We had a 8:15 P.M reservation, waiting for 30 minutes before someone asked us if we want some water. Took another 20 minutes before we can order our food. The bread was cold and stale, the drink was so dilute. Our main meal came out at 10:10 P.M. The manager offered to pay for our drinks and desserts, but we were so exhausted after waiting for so long we want to bring our desserts home. Oh boy what a disappointment, when we open our desserts the next day my crème Brule tasted like burned coffee, and my wife brownie looked deformed. The say the least this would be our first and last
Special occasion for our family dinner. Waited 2+ hours for our food to arrive and they had run out of just about everything on their limited Valentine’s Day menu. Barely saw any servers. Manager was apologetic. Substituted food came and it was very disappointing. Thankfully our check was discounted. So embarrassing.
They were out of everything on the menu. What we did get to was delicious.
My Wife and I went there for Valentines, which also is her birthday. We ordered the Valentines tasting menu which was expensive ($100/person). The waitress was super pleasant but it took forever to get our entree. We had ordered the octopus, and that’s what took a lot of time. The waitress was apologetic but at that price range they should have offered more, maybe a discount for the inconvenience or free entree for another visit. The ambiance was great, the food was delicious. My wife was a little disappointed. TBD if we ever come back.
I took my wife for Valentine’s Day. It was a $100 minimum, so we order the courses plus $35 for the wine pairings. The portions were small though the wine pouring was generous. Unfortunately two of my courses were overcooked yet lukewarm, and my wife had to send back her duck confit because it was so cold. With tip, it was over $350, and I left hungry and disappointed. I have been there before and it was amazing, but I will never go back on a busy holiday.
It was a holiday so the overall experience was ok. We had previously had dinner at Rats and it was great. The service was poor. No waiter was assigned to our table, menu was very limited, food was cold (sent back). It took extremely long for the dinner to be re-prepared. My wife was completely done her dinner when my dinner finally was served. Waiter kept apologizing, manager apologized, etc. Thanks for the apology, but lip serve only.
They also run out of multiple items on the limited menu. People at other tables were not happy.
I would not go back on a holiday.
We are members of Grounds for Sculpture and we eat at Rat’s several times a year. It is always an extraordinary experience with great food, amazing ambiance that brings you right into the world of Wind in the Willows, and great service. It is as close as you can come to enjoying the leisure of a meal hosted by Mr. Rat.
We went to this restaurant for the Valentines dinner. We chose the pre-fix menu and it was horrible. The portions were too small that we left restaurant hungry. Also at the end of the dinner we asked our waiter if we can order the short ribs from regular menu because we were still hungry, first she said ok, but then came back saying that they are out of short ribs. They brought us the deserts and didn’t even offer coffee or tea. Also at the beginning of the dinner we order bottle of the still water, they took the water away and during the dinner didn’t offer to refresh the glasses till I asked them. We will never come back for pre-fix menu.
I wouldn’t recommend the holiday taste testing at Rats. For 100$ a person you basically get 5 plates smaller then an appetizer. We had buyers remorse and felt price gouged. You don’t even get a glass of wine with that 100$ a person charge. All and all we spent 340$ there’s for two with tip and left feel hungry. We are no stranger to Rats. This was out 7th annual Valentine’s Day at Rats and the disappointment was real. We will never go for a taste testing holiday menu again. Food was dry, presentation was sub par and the portions were a rip off. Just because the ambiance is nice doesn’t mean everything should be over priced.
Our go-to place for special events - anniversary, Valentine's Day. Great food, great service. Classy but not stuffy. Top notch.
Funky bar area. Sunday brunch is super.
Unique menu items.
Quiet and pretty. It is colocated with the Grounds for Sculpture and is a beautiful place for lunch while visiting the Sculpture Park.
