Rat’s Restaurant is the perfect dining destination. Named for the fabled entertaining character in Kenneth Graham’s children’s classic, The Wind in the Willows, Rat’s Restaurant is designed to give visitors the sense they have stepped into a village reminiscent of the impressionist painter Claude Monet’s beloved town of Giverny. Rustic fireplaces, country French cuisine, seasonal hand-crafted cocktails and an eclectic beer and wine list are just the beginning. The restaurant is in a great setting. The ambiance was wonderful- perfect for an evening dinner. However, the service and food left much to be desired. The food took over an hour to be served and it was cold when it finally arrived. We were told by the manager that they had some trouble in the kitchen. The waiter was no where to be found showing up only every 15-20 minutes. I must mentioned that the waitress on the other table had to come and inquire on us. Overall I would rate it an overall poor experience.

The menu is not as extensive and gourmet as it had been in the past. The food was fair, and not the culinary experience of past visits, which saddens me as this had been a favorite restaurant. I hope when they change the menu for the Spring, it and the good will be up to previous standards. Realized we never got bread service half way through our meal. We did get popovers upon request at that point. Server was great and personable.

Our experience was very sad, when we walked we had a small birthday cake for 6 and was told your table will not be ready in 5:00 our time there was 4:48 pm we ask if they could please put the cake in the back for us as we will walk around a bit, they said they will charge $10 for each of the 6 slice they will cut. The waiters never came to check on us, the food was full of sand in the spinach, three people on our table had the same thing because they only have three meals on their menu. Our meal for the least amounts of food was $500 wine it’s legal robbery, I believable sad. The people were super unkind, unfriendly, wow for that kind of price they should be the nicest place people like going to be treated well. Our experience was Horrible.

We ordered Cobb salad, a hamburger and and onion soup with side of mussels, along with soft drinks at 2:05p. It took us until 3:50p to get out the door. The above food and drink cost $144.00 with tip. Totally unacceptable cost for food, and crappy service during an off time(2p) on a weekday. Never going back. The meat was mushy and tasted like filler. The other food was excellent. STAY AWAY !!!
