The view and the atmosphere were beautiful. It was like being in a Monet painting.
We spent the day wandering around the Grounds For Sculpture, amazing, and ended a perfect day with a perfect dinner, perfect service from Peter, and perfect views!! The four of us split the four spread combo and the charcuterie. My husband and I split the Kabocha and Delicate Squash Salad and we both had the roast duck. Everything was wonderful! We will be coming back! Thank you for providing such an enjoyable experience!
Birthday party for my wife
Excellent food and service; we dined on the patio and it was a very good experience. I had the short ribs and my wife had the scallops; both the presentation and taste were very good. The service level, as always, was very high.
I had been here years ago, and wanted to have a pleasant experience with my daughters.
Unfortunately the food was mediocre, and the service was slow. When our food did arrive nothing was hot . Half of it must have been sitting in the kitchen for awhile before being served.
But the worst part was that the mussels my daughter ordered were not fresh, with many of them
not even opened. The trout my other daughter ordered was good though.
The ambiance and scenery around the restaurant was still great, but dont expect great food.
Had a wonderful lunch after visiting the beautiful Grounds for Sculpture. My friend and I both ordered the trout. So delicious and the sauce was to die for. Rats is a lovely restaurant. I cannot wait to return and try the dinner menu!
We all loved the atmosphere, the service, the quality of the food, and being able to look around the immediate garden afterward. The desserts were amazing.
The atmosphere was wonderful; we sat in the Moroccan-inspired dining area behind the bar and really enjoyed the ambience.
Food and service were both excellent - the grilled oysters were amazing!
Celebrated our 32nd wedding anniversary at Rats. Our first time there, won't be our last. LOVED IT!!
As always, a wonderful lunch. The trout was amazing, my wife loved her burger, the old fashion really hit the spot. Total enjoyment.
Food and drinks were excellent. Service was extremely slow. It should not take a half hour to get a small dinner salad which consisted of one type of green lettuce, 3 slices of radish and two haricot verts after having an appetizer. It should not take another 15 minutes to get a glass of wine refilled and another 25 minutes to get entrees.
Food is always amazing. I just wish they offered more vegan options.
I took a friend for her special birthday and we had the most delightful, delicious meal with outstanding service! We ate much too much but each taste was delicious. The seafood salad and trout were both great complements to one another- we shared them both. The eggplant caponata was also scrumptious.
We went for a light lunch, during our sculpture garden stroll. It was a nicebreak on a hot day. The food was excellent and refreshing, perfect for a summer luncheon. The service was terrific.
Awesome. Romantic. Grounds for Sculpture is fabulous!
My wife and I are members of GFS and frequent Rats at least 4-6 times a year. This past visit was outstanding! Service and food were the best they've been in some time. While the last couple of visits were very good, the staff has markedly upped their game in terms of food design and preparation, service and the overall ambiance of the restaurant. Rachel, our server, couldn't have been nicer or more professional! Friendly, engaging and properly attentive, she helped orchestrate a fabulous evening! Some of the food: black-striped bass - oh my goodness was it succulent, buttery and perfectly cooked! The ravioli special was so flavorful! Cocktails? Superb, fresh and exceptionally well crafted. Beautiful day at GFS and polished off with a wonderful dinner with friends at Rats!
My wife and I come here every so often. We enjoy the restaurant it is very nice and my wife also likes the sculptures when we walked the gardens. The food was great the service was great. The only thing I was not overly fond of was the dress code in the building. We were there for an evening dinner. It was our 35th wedding anniversary. They were seating people that were coming in in t-shirts and shorts and sneakers. I thought you were restaurant was a higher class than TGI Fridays. Not sure at this point in time whether I'm going to go back.
Rats is always great. We had the most delicious oysters as an appetizer. They were so yummy and rich, prepared almost like escargot, that any more than 6 between two of us would have been too much - especially with the crusty bread. In fact, their bread is so good that I kind of ruined my lunch which was a salad with fresh crab, grilled shrimp and lobster with what must have been a sherry vinegarette. Whatever it was, it was great and something I'll eagerly order again.
Rats is the perfect way to finish off a day at the grounds for sculpture.
Rats Restaurant was a wonderful choice. My husband and I were celebrating our anniversary and they staff made it memorable for us. We chose the "Dinner and a stroll" fixed price option so that we could explore the park as well. It was great food, beautiful surroundings, excellent service and a lovely atmosphere; what more can you ask for?
Food was spectacular, service was attentive, ambiance is great.
The Mezza appetizer was ordinary despite nice plating. The service was great.
Scott was excellent. Very informative and personable.
We has a long standing reservation, arrived early and no one was there. Nonetheless, We were seated right by the bussing station which was very noisy and distracting...what a shame. That certainly had a negative impact on our lunch! The food was not as remarkable as it was the last time we ate at Rats(2016). Disappointing!
CAN'T BEAT THE AMBIANCE OF SITTING ON THE DECK BY THE WATER GARDENS! IT'S ABSOLUTELY MAGICAL. SERVICE IS OUTSTANDING. FOOD IS PRETTY GOOD, BUT PORTIONS ARE SMALL.
We returned to this outstanding restaurant for our wedding anniversary and were once again extremely pleased with the service, the great care given us by our server, Chris, and others who helped attend to the presentation of our superb luncheon. My husband chose the Grilled Pepper Bisque as his appetizer and I selected the Smoked Salmon. His entrée was the Moroccan Lamb stew and mine was the Frittata. Dessert rounded-off our meal with Peas and Carrot Cake for my husband and Crème Brulee for me. We love returning to Rats and look forward to our next visit!
Location is interesting if you like Disney-style atmosphere (and many do). Rats claims to use locally-sourced ingredients and they do to some degree, but if you are familiar with in-season produce and a true local food experience, their claim is not entirely accurate. Local and sustsinable are good marketing buzz words these days but few restaurants are authentic in this regard. Sorry but Rats is more hype than reality and overpriced at that.
Enjoyed Scuplture Garden and Rats Restaurant! Restaurant was a highlight and an excellent stop to rest, enjoy good food and the ambience of the surroundings.
A unique experience. It's a must do. This, was my second time there. Can't wait to go back again
We had the perfect lunch experience, as part of a glorious day at Grounds for Sculpture. The staff was so accommodating, finding us the perfect outdoor table overlooking Monet Bridge. The food was delicious, with a wonderful array of options. Service was attentive. It was an absolutely perfect experience, and we'll be back!
We had to send back one meal because the roast beef was not chewable ! Although an alternative was offered, no compensation/ complimentary gesture was made. We were anxious to tour the Grounds and was delayed while we had to wait for replacement. The food was expensive and portions small. Not a good value . Would NOT eat there again despite the ambiance. Better off at a cafe or picnic lunch.
We arrived 30 minutes early and were graciously welcomed by the host and seated. The wait staff was professional and courteous. We were served our lunch in an extremely timely manner. Wonderful experience and I will be back!!
Wonderful food in a marvelous setting
Always a fantastic meal and time, from the egg popovers to the cheese plate and the duck....so good!
Love this place!
This is a beautiful and unique restaurant in a very beautiful and unique setting. It is an integrated part of the Garden of Sculpture. As a result, you dine within an extraordinary setting and before or after dining you can expand the experience by walking through the Garden, which are substantial. You should make this a day long event interrupted with a meal in Rats.
The building itself is utterly charming, inside and out. The service was impeccable, yet friendly and not at all stuffy. The food was very good, not life changing, but not at all disappointing. I’ll be going back just because of the delicious breads, popovers, and herb butter. We didn’t love our cocktails (watermelon basil Caipirinha, and something with gin and grapefruit), next time I’ll stick with wine. Definitely go for the good food and very special atmosphere.
An elegant night out but not stuffy. Good variety of excellent dishes , even if some were too adventurous for some of us. Attentive staff who explained clearly the special features of some of the plates. Like dining as guests of the owner of a luxurious but tasteful manor house in the countryside just a few miles from the train station.
Excellent!!! Service, Food, ambience! My girlfriend and I had a great experience! Thank you!
It was a busy Friday and our table was ready and the atmosphere was just great
Of the 4 of us, two of our entrees were not hot — tasty but just not served at the correct temperature so that was a disappointment. Also,
The wrong wine was delivered,
The burger was just ok and Our fries were also not hot
Once the dining room was less busy, the wait staff was more attentive. Not at all like my previous visits.
Some of my former colleagues decided to get together and needed a place to go for our first gathering. I recalled my daughter making an arrangement and bringing me here last year and i informed the group. They were hesitant because of the name but when they arrived, they were amazed. We had a fantastic time and the food and service was exemplary. We were told there was a new chef who just started and have not completed his own menu but he did a wonderful job on his predecesor's menu. Their homemade bread, their spread, selection of wine was all tasteful and we look forward to going many more times.
