Rathskeller Restaurant
Bavarian Flair in Downtown Indy! Set in the historic, 19th century Athenaeum Building downtown, The Rathskeller is reminiscent of both a quaint inn tucked in the Bavarian hills and a lively beer hall in Munich. We feature traditional German entrees and a full range of salads, pasta, seafood, beef, pork and chicken entrees. The aesthetics, the atmosphere, the food, all 5 STARS!!! This place is a gem in the middle of town, with great selection of beer, wine, food, and the best service I've seen in a long time.
We love the Rathskeller and it had been way too long since we last dined with them. It is worth the 45 minute drive for us and if it was closer we would definitely go more often. The food and service were outstanding this visit.
Very good Bavarian food. Outstanding service. Bar area is out of Munich. Biergarten for summer time.
The food was good and the service was wonderful. We will
be back.
Great food with good service. Good portions and no wait time
Delicious German food and great atmosphere. The outdoor entertainment is worth the trip.
Excellent food and atmosphere. We've been here multiple times and are looking forward to our next visit.
The service was slow and it looked deserted... I’m sure it is fine on weekends though!..
Food was alright. Not worth the price. Too many people walking around/in bathrooms that had obviously been drinking. Not where I would like to take younger kids. Bathrooms not handicap accessible.
We went for my fathers 53rd birthday and had so much fun enjoying the food and hearing stories of when he lived in Germany while stationed in the Army. We absolutely loved the environment!
Great setting, interesting and appropriate for a German restaurant. Very clean. Food was very good in portions, the Jägerschnitzel was not really very authentic. Service was friendly and attentive.
Ordered 2 steaks. Extremely bland. Apps were yummy—bread cold. Veggie of the day, rosemary roast potatoes tasted days old.
All other sides inedible. Weren’t asked why we left most of food untouched.
I was not wow'd with the meal. A schnitzel for over 20 bucks should have impressed my taste buds. It was pretty plain. And the Jager sauce mushrooms were sliced so thin I could hardly find them let alone taste them. The taste is what makes it Jager..
Authentic German food in a storied building. Beer Garden in back with live music and a lively crowd.
Great look to the place. I had the sausage platter, which was fantastic, and my son enjoyed the schnitzel. Large servings, so I always have plenty to take home for another meal. Server was great as well.
The food was great. Our waitress was fun and helpful.
Building was impeccably clean, lovely architecture. Server was outstanding.
Food was inedible. Flavorless, every item covered in a cool congealed blob of bulk purchased gravy, with an inartistic flourish of sour cream drizzle and single slice of canned mushroom topper. Go for drinks, but eat first.
Food was good not great compared to experiences in Germany. A lot of choices for beer made the night with bottled Kolsch and Dunkels.
Ambiance was the worse part. Music was loud for the sake of being loud with the bass drowning out the music.
There were some rowdy, cursing individuals that used the F-word has a noun, adjective, and verb quite a bit. Also, seemed to be the place for young couples to have breakdowns and storm out to have fights. Maybe just a bad night to go.
Haven't been to the Rathskellar in many years. The menu and ambiance was just as expected. The food, however, was not as good as it used to be. They still serve some amazing pretzels and hot mustard though. Not sure I would go back.
Food was excellent as always. Server was very attentive and anticipated our needs.
Food was decent , cabbage was really sweet unusual for German at other places I have eaten.
Very cool building and atmosphere. We celebrated my husbands b-day and they gave him a complimentary dessert from anything on the menu. The food was DELICIOUS!!! Highly recommend.
The Rathskeller is our special events place. And a great place to take visiting guests.
We will be back again :) Food and service were great.
Beautiful historical but idling, authentic local smoked German sausage and chops. Our server was very attentive and very reasonable for the quality.
The waitress was very friendly great service. Food was good.
The appetizer was good. We ordered steaks to be medium well and they were very rare and had no flavor.
The Rathskeller has a limited menu with Covid so I was a little disappointed that we couldn't get the pecan crusted trout. We chose instead to try the NY Strip. It was flame grilled nicely but it had absolutely no flavor. I don't believe they used any seasoning. It was bland and disappointing.
Great meal. Service was fantastic. Not many people there because of Covid so we had the room to ourselves
Understaffed.
No strict anti-pandemic monitoring.
Food was wonderful.
Awesome building and good food. I would recommend to anyone that enjoys German food.
Awesome food and service.
Great service Great atmosphere Clean good food prices a little high for the quality of food but overall a good choice
Love this place! Atmosphere was great & fun, everyone doing their part to make us feel safe!
Food great. Service was a little slow.
Wonderful selection of excellent brews. Everything prepared fresh and in abundance. Kick back for a great evening and time with friends
Food was great, as usual, and the service was very good. We were seated in the “walkway” between the entrance and bar. So it was cold from the door opening, dark, and noisy from the bar. Not best from that perspective.
Great service and great food. German beer I had was awesome as well. Jägerschnitzel and Spätzle were money. The cheese fries were solid too. Overall great experience. Will be back.
The Rathskeller was a bustling restaurant prior Pandemic. It’s really sad to see how serious this Pandemic has effected restaurants and business in general.
We were so fortunate to have Sassy Jennifer as our waitress! We moved our son to Indy this week and it was a joy to have Jennifer so us the ropes at your restaurant. We will be back and hope to have Jennifer as our waitress again!
