My wife and I took a trip to Bavaria this past summer and we both missed the food. Yes, I know, who missed German food? Well, we did. Anyhow, The Rathskeller fit the bill. The food was spot on and fantastic.
We enjoyed it immensely! We've been wanting to come here for a while and finally the opportunity was there after the IRT. Tough to find parking though!
Awesome, friendly service. Didn't have to wait long for our meal or for refills on water. Server and bar staff were excellent, as was the food.
Loved the food and the service and atmosphere were excellent.
My friends and I met at The Rathskeller last Saturday and had a great time! Jennifer, our waitress, is hilarious and just a great, knowledgeable server! Great food and drinks, too!!
Spaetzle was cold and served covered in gravy. Should serve plain and offer gravy if wanted. Service was fantastic.
Good food, excellent service, great atmosphere
We are a group of friends that meet each month for lunch. We like the Rathskeller due to its good food and ambiance. We also like Jennifer, our favorite waitress who takes good care of us and is fun to be around.
Awesome food and atmosphere! The location is extremely unique.
I really like the ambience of the restaurant. However the pork Schnitzel was small, not well pounded and dry. I had a reservation for two weeks and ended up with the worst table in the room...directly next to the hostess stand. I will definitely be back...but will be more careful with my requests.
Excellent food and wonderful atmosphere! The food was delicious
Our food was good, the waiter was pretty good, however, he had his hands full with a large table of patrons and didn't have a lot of time for our smaller table. We were there with friends to celebrate a milestone anniversary and the noise level was so loud from that large table that we couldn't hear each other talk. I thought that it would be great if we were off in a smaller side room, but I was wrong. We still had a good time, but it would have been much better if the noise level was lower.
Pleasant atmosphere. A bit loud. Great service and excellent food. I will return!
Great food and good atmosphere, we will return.
Interesting history and decor throughout. Looks like an awesome place for live music as well.
We had a great time! The food was wonderful and huge portions. I had enough for 3 meals!
I liked the decor of the restaurant, but the quality and "Germanness" of the food was just average.
Everything was great inside! The beer garden was absolutely amazing!!!
Loved celebrating my husband's birthday at the Rathskeller with friends! Devour Indy menu had numerous choices so everyone found something they liked! Our server Jennifer was excellent as always and lots of fun. Great dinner and fun evening!
Great service and food
The variety of food on the menu is great and the location is also very unique; however, the food was only so so. I don't know if it was because we ordered off the Devour Downtown special menu or not. In the past, I've always thought the food was pretty good.
If you love german style food - Rathskeller is the place to be!! I've always wanted to visit the Beer Garden for the outdoor concerts, so after finally having a meal here, I cannot wait to be back and check out the different events held here!
Our waiter was so great and attentive and really took care of us. It's such an eclectic restaurant and I loved the atmosphere.
Authentic delicious food in a remarkable historic setting. Fantastic!
We went here for a date night. It was almost ruined by the poor service and food here. The steak was tough and next to impossible to cut. We were there for 2 hours and every table around us filled and emptied before we could get any of our courses. We would've left a poor tip so they know but we were afraid of how long it would take to get change. It was not a good time.
The food was delicious and the service was great. I will definitely come again if I am ever in the area. Its a great place to go if you are going to an event at the Theatre around the corner.
Our server not only did a good job of meeting our needs, she also knew a lot more about the history of the building and the decoration that is prominent in the restaurant dining room than other servers we have had over the years of going there. It is a classic restaurant for Indianapolis and we will continue to go there, but this visit was the most enjoyable I can recall.
Had the Devour menu. The stuffed mushrooms are great. The Orange Roughy Florentine was okay.
Meh, it was Ok at best, food was passable, but I’ve eaten in Germany and this didn’t even come close, felt like they were going through the motions. Beer was good and service ok.
We have been coming here for over 30 years. The server was very good. I ordered a salad with balsamic dressing. It was very thick and rancid tasting. I told them that it tasted bad and should be thinner. They brought me back the same salad but they HEATED the same rancid dressing to thin it out! My yellowfin steak was ordered rare and cooked medium. I sent it back. I was told that they would redo the sides as well. The steak came back properly cook but with the same sides. The snap peas were reheated and overcooked to become mush. I did not eat them and I did not eat the salad. A manager never came out to address our concerns. They were not busy at all. I made the reservations the night before and it was wide open. I understand why now.
Service was great but food was horrible! Overpriced and just not good German Food!
The food and service was outstanding. We love eating at the Rathskeller!
Great place for traditional German food in an ambiance similar to what you would find in Germany. The service is good, the quality of food very authentic. Highly recommended.
Food was excellent and service superb
Serve an abundance of food. Starts with a bread plate with a pretzel served with spicy mustard. Dinner comes with soup or salad. Great blue cheese dressing. Had the sauerbraten and comes with two sides. Good choice of beer.
Great service and great food. Beautiful atmosphere
Gorgeous historical building, delicious food prepared well. Watch out for the mustard with a distinct horseradish kick. Great waitstaff and enough food for another meal. Highly recommend.
Great food and atmosphere. Cool historical building. Fast and friendly awesome service.
My potato was cold, my meat was tough, and my bread pudding was quite small for the price.
First time there on Monday. Best German food I’ve had in sometime
Staff was unfriendly and stern, especially our female server Saturday evening who said she was training a new server. The trainer was abrupt with my guests and seemed impatient when she was asked questions about the food or beer. She intimidated my guests and rushed them, even though the restaurant wasn’t that busy. Similarly, when I called the restaurant Saturday evening to let them know we’d be about 5 minutes late for our reservation, the woman who answered the phone was brusque and not courteous. She didn’t even thank me for calling or say goodbye, she just hung up.
Uncle’s 74th birthday.
