RARE650 Ratings and Reviews
We celebrated a birthday mid week . Requested a quiet location yet seated in a busy main dining hall with several noisy parties in progress .
Meal was good and prompt. Over priced in comparison to top restaurants in LI .
Nice touch in compting desert for birthday .
The service was exceptional. We were very impressed with how attentive the staff was to all our needs. The porterhouse steak was cooked to perfection...the first time around too and all of the sides were delicious!
We really enjoyed our meal and will definitely go back again.
The food here is always good, professional staff every time that i have been here. There are no bargains here and be prepared to shell out a lot of money. Typically about $100 per person without drinks. the food will be good every time fish or steak is always good
Dined on Thanksgiving and it was very good. The Food and Service on par with the other steakhouses on Long Island. Just one note - Sushi special roll very good but not worth the $40+ price and overall (steaks, sides, dessert & espresso)a little pricey than the competition.
Thanksgiving dinner they offered 5 entrees including Turkey I ordered its was terrible Was not sliced real turkey it was like Turkey cold cuts from a deli . Terrible cold They offered sweet potatoe with the meal and stuffing green beans they was 1 spoonful of sweet potatoes. Terrible thanksgiving Dinner
All I can say is wow… I’ve been coming to this restaurant for many years and Saturday will be my last time. My wife and I had planned a very special dinner for two friends of ours. We really wanted to sit in Rare’s atrium and we made the request on OpenTable when we booked the reservation. We booked a 6pm dinner knowing things do not really get going there until 7:30pm or so. Rare accommodated our request for the atrium seating.
The people at Rare put us at a table of four between two large parties which consisted of about 12 to 16 seats per table. Those guests hadn’t arrived yet but we knew it would get loud when they arrived and hoped to be done before they got there. After ordering our drinks, the workers started moving tables, bumping into my seat, lifting tables over my head and speaking loudly as if they were outside… not what one expects when having a dinner which ran over $600. There were three other diners in the entire atrium at the time but they decided to sit us in a military zone! We called the maître d over and asked to be moved to another table, they then moved us to a better table in the room. Why we weren’t sat there in the first place is amazing. FYI, I have never in my life had to ask to have my table moved.
From there on, everything was fine but we were served in less than an hour, appetizer and dinner. We decided not to have coffee or dessert.
In summary, I’ve been going to Rare since it opened and have noticed the gradual decline. How can you treat people in the manner described above when they charge the prices they do… it should be a dining experience, not a cafeteria. At no time did Rare offer to buy us drinks or dessert for our inconvenience, which would have been the right thing to do for a premium restaurant.
So, goodbye Rare… we’ll be spending our money elsewhere going forward!
The lobster cocktail was actually a whole lobster cut in half length-wise so there was lots of cracking and digging to do and quite messy. A bit misleading on the menu.
The food was delicious and we were not rushed.
Overall we had a very enjoyable experience.
We were expecting a bit more from this steak house, since it has such a good reputation. The ambiance was nice, the waiters & staff were great but thats it.
The sushi and the sides were great but the steak was charred. Not impressed at all, could've had a better steak at J&Rs, and saved $400
Overrated and overpriced
We were a party of six and orders large sushi platter.it was mediocre
Had better at our local takeout sushi . Steaks for main were delicious as was calamari. Ask othe chocolate cake for dessert was definitely worth the calories. But skip the Napoleon. Heavy cream and not very tasty
Food was under cooked and prices overdone. When i asked for the filet that i ordered, butterflied, welldone to be cooked a bit more because it was bleeding on my plate we waited a good 15 minutes for it to be done. When it was finally returned to me it was black and charred as if the chef vindictively burnt it to a crisp
I have found that I have been giving this restaurant a chance and a chance and a chance.
the BREAD has REALLY gone DOWN in both quality and taste. I remember when they had garlic twists and pumpernickel rolls with raisins...Now the bread is like cardboard.
It makes me feel like they are starting to CUT CORNERS!!!
The food is still Okay, but if you're going to pay THOSE prices, it shouldn't just be OKAY!
Rare650 is a great steakhouse. The staff was pleasant and accommodating when we asked for a different table because we were first seated near a large table having a party which was quite loud. Otherwise, the service is impeccable and the food is fantastic. Overall, it's a great restaurant for a special occasion or a nice night out.
For the most part the food was good but not great. Noise level not good but great (very noisy). Service slow and average. Friday night jammed packed with customers and tables so close there was no "walking room" between them. My chair was actually in the "aisle" with customers and waiters actually brushing against my back when then walked by. All items on the menu were very high priced with some very average in quality. Enough said!
Restaurant was loud on a Friday night...although our steak was either medium or medium well, both were very, very dry. We waited almost an hour for our entree to arrive. We were disappointed because we had heard good reviews. The couple next to us was also disappointed with their meal and the wait time for their meal.
