RARE650 Ratings and Reviews
Was our first time dining there and we arrived 10 minutes early and were asked to wait at the bar. We were fine with that. Then were seated 20 minutes after our reservation time at an awkward booth not meant for two. But after waiting We said ok. The service was ok. They were aware it was our first time so thought they might be a little more attentive. Not so much. Disappointed. Not sure We will be returning. Such a shame because it was highly recommended.
My wife and I went for our anniversary dinner. We try a new high-end restaurant every year and this year it was Rare650. Unfortunately it wasn't very good. Our table was in a beautiful glass room, only to be ruined by the fact that our table was right at the mouth of the kitchen. We were practically sitting in the kitchen with a constant line of rushing servers going in and out. Very romantic. The wedge salad that we started with was excellent, but that was followed by 2 overcooked steaks that we paid a premium price for. In addition, the Brussels sprout side was terrible and the hash browns were very mediocre. On the positive side, our servers were very friendly, knowledgeable and attentive. Won't be going back here.
We have been to Rare 650 before and when you go you can be certain you’re in for a great meal.
My older son had the lobster cocktail to start and 30oz ribeye-both great. His girlfriend a crab salad and petit filet both amazing. My other son had the sliders to start and Halibut. Slider were great. I opted for shrimp cocktail to start and sushi over steak for dinner which is unusual for me. Shrimp were good but I was hoping for more than 4 for 15 bucks. Sushi was excellent and my wife had a rare salad and a lobster roll both of which she enjoyed very much.
We ate in an area I’ve never eaten in before between the lower dining room and the bar. The only issue here is the heat. It’s hot. My wife is always cold but not on this night. After asking our waiter to rectify the temperature unsuccessfully I found a manager Edwardo who took care of it right away and came back several times to check and apologize. He agreed it was way too hot. He offered me his card and made every effort to ensure the balance of the evening was on point. Our servers were above average although I prefer one dedicated waiter over Team service.
We ordered cocktails off the specialty list and the Kentucky tea was great, but the mohito went back. The wines by the glass were great. We did a few reds the Malbec great and Chardonnay very good.
This place honors It’s reservations and I thank them for that. On the way in and out, in at 8pm out at 10pm the vallet parkers had their hands full and were quite backed up. Coming in was not to big a deal but when leaving and waiting for the car it was freezing cold even under the warming light. I would strongly suggest they add a few additional Parker’s. Also wish they would nix the restroom guy.
All in All Rare is one of the top restaurant on Long Island. Food and service are super and you can tell from the amount of staff, service is a priority. Rare 650 is alot of money for what you get, but at the same time I keep returning and I’ll be back!
Excellent food, only outdone by their outstanding service, especially Manny. The steak was great, it should be this is a steak house, the sides stole the show, the brussel sprouts and mac and cheese were phenomenal and a must for your meal. Thank you for making my wife's birthday special.
Outstanding steaks cooked perfectly including an exceptional wagyu appetizer. We also had one sushi appetizer which melted in our mouths. My wife’s scallops were cooked perfectly and the mushroom risotto which came with it was exceptional. For dessert the one chocolate layer cake we ordered was loved by all and feeds at least 4. To top it all off, on a Wednesday night there was a fellow performing live, playing an organ and sining a variety of tunes probably from the 70’s to today with such enthusiasm and such a fantastic range that we couldn’t believe how good he was. What an outstanding evening and special graduation celebration with our nephew.
Food is always good, fish is fresh, steaks are better than average and sides are delicious; grilled artichokes, Mac cheese, grilled asparagus all excellent
It is a Long Island restaurant so expect a lot of noise and obnoxious people, but it’s still a good venue
Though I had made reservations 2 months prior, I had to wait 30 minutes for my table. They sat me and my wife upstairs towards the back by the kitchen/service entrance with noise and wait staff traffic. It was frigid outside and we were right under a circulation vent. It was cold so we asked that they adjust the temp so that cold air was not blowing on our table. 30 minutes later the cold air is still blowing balloons over our table yet they insist that the took care of it. After I had to stand up and raise my voice to a manager it was finally adjusted. By this time I just wanted to finish my meal and leave. Very poor experience.
Our Christmas Eve was a little different this year as we were traveling the next day so we changed it up and went out for dinner this year. We couldn’t have chosen a better place to enjoy an amazing dinner! The service was exceptional, from the wait staff to the bus boys. Our food was beyond delicious from sushi and salads for starters and then my striped bass special was excellent and my husband & daughter said their filets were perfect! Our deserts were the best way to end off the meal and I am so glad we were here.
Rare 650 is one of the better Steak houses on Long Island. Staff is friendly and attentive.
Professional wait staff that know their business. Food was what was to be expected at a higher priced venue.
Excellent cuts of steak, aged and great flavor. Cooked perfect. Simple sauces (not really needed).
A 24oz cold water Lobster tail was exactly what they said it was - tender, moist and delicious.
Appetizers - Not the typical. Don't pass these up.
Salads - they did forget to bring ours out, but it wasn't an issue - there was plenty of food.
Deserts - A few interesting choices. Carrot Cake was excellent, as was the Cranberry Cobbler.
All in all - a great dinner. However - not for anyone looking to have a inexpensive meal!
Food was cooked absolutely perfectly!
My wife and I came here for Christmas eve dinner. My wife orders her steak rare, and when i say rare, I mean the woman likes it perfectly rare and she will send it back every time if it's not perfect. Having said that, my wife had given up on ordering steak, even at steakhouses because no one could get it right the first time. I dragged her here.
We ordered: lobster and jumbo lump crab cocktail to start: excellent
Kansas bone-in rib-eye with truffle butter - hers rare and mine med-rare. Hands down one of the best steaks of my life! We always order filet when we have steak, but we tried something new and holy crap, it was beyond fantastic! Cooked perfectly! Juicy with a nice tasty charcoal crust on the outside. Paired with creamed spinach, mac & cheese and a baked potato.
It really made our entire Christmas Eve special.
Service - impeccable
Ambiance - Upbeat but not too loud where you cant hear the other person speak
Overall - this will be our go-to spot for dinners that we want to make sure go off without a hitch!
Even though we had a reservation we waited 30+ minutes to be seated. There was a lack of communication between our 2 waiters. Service was so slow that my glass of wine was not served until I was at the end of my meal. To top it off I was overcharged $20 which took two attempts to fix. I definitely will not return to this restaurant!
We celebrated a birthday mid week . Requested a quiet location yet seated in a busy main dining hall with several noisy parties in progress .
Meal was good and prompt. Over priced in comparison to top restaurants in LI .
Nice touch in compting desert for birthday .
The service was exceptional. We were very impressed with how attentive the staff was to all our needs. The porterhouse steak was cooked to perfection...the first time around too and all of the sides were delicious!
We really enjoyed our meal and will definitely go back again.
