All I can say is wow… I’ve been coming to this restaurant for many years and Saturday will be my last time. My wife and I had planned a very special dinner for two friends of ours. We really wanted to sit in Rare’s atrium and we made the request on OpenTable when we booked the reservation. We booked a 6pm dinner knowing things do not really get going there until 7:30pm or so. Rare accommodated our request for the atrium seating.

The people at Rare put us at a table of four between two large parties which consisted of about 12 to 16 seats per table. Those guests hadn’t arrived yet but we knew it would get loud when they arrived and hoped to be done before they got there. After ordering our drinks, the workers started moving tables, bumping into my seat, lifting tables over my head and speaking loudly as if they were outside… not what one expects when having a dinner which ran over $600. There were three other diners in the entire atrium at the time but they decided to sit us in a military zone! We called the maître d over and asked to be moved to another table, they then moved us to a better table in the room. Why we weren’t sat there in the first place is amazing. FYI, I have never in my life had to ask to have my table moved.

From there on, everything was fine but we were served in less than an hour, appetizer and dinner. We decided not to have coffee or dessert.

In summary, I’ve been going to Rare since it opened and have noticed the gradual decline. How can you treat people in the manner described above when they charge the prices they do… it should be a dining experience, not a cafeteria. At no time did Rare offer to buy us drinks or dessert for our inconvenience, which would have been the right thing to do for a premium restaurant.

So, goodbye Rare… we’ll be spending our money elsewhere going forward!

Our waiter recommended a number of dishes and specials and every one was excellent. The staff was upbeat and personable. We are sure to be back for the amazing food and the excellent service.

The lobster cocktail was actually a whole lobster cut in half length-wise so there was lots of cracking and digging to do and quite messy. A bit misleading on the menu.
The food was delicious and we were not rushed.
Overall we had a very enjoyable experience.

We were expecting a bit more from this steak house, since it has such a good reputation. The ambiance was nice, the waiters & staff were great but thats it.
The sushi and the sides were great but the steak was charred. Not impressed at all, could've had a better steak at J&Rs, and saved $400

This place is off the hook, great food music service and the Manger Paul is on point very hands on always making time to make sure everyone is happy. I never seen a person so dedicated to his job and customers.

Overrated and overpriced
We were a party of six and orders large sushi platter.it was mediocre
Had better at our local takeout sushi . Steaks for main were delicious as was calamari. Ask othe chocolate cake for dessert was definitely worth the calories. But skip the Napoleon. Heavy cream and not very tasty

Food was under cooked and prices overdone. When i asked for the filet that i ordered, butterflied, welldone to be cooked a bit more because it was bleeding on my plate we waited a good 15 minutes for it to be done. When it was finally returned to me it was black and charred as if the chef vindictively burnt it to a crisp

I have found that I have been giving this restaurant a chance and a chance and a chance.
the BREAD has REALLY gone DOWN in both quality and taste. I remember when they had garlic twists and pumpernickel rolls with raisins...Now the bread is like cardboard.
It makes me feel like they are starting to CUT CORNERS!!!
The food is still Okay, but if you're going to pay THOSE prices, it shouldn't just be OKAY!

Rare650 is a great steakhouse. The staff was pleasant and accommodating when we asked for a different table because we were first seated near a large table having a party which was quite loud. Otherwise, the service is impeccable and the food is fantastic. Overall, it's a great restaurant for a special occasion or a nice night out.

For the most part the food was good but not great. Noise level not good but great (very noisy). Service slow and average. Friday night jammed packed with customers and tables so close there was no "walking room" between them. My chair was actually in the "aisle" with customers and waiters actually brushing against my back when then walked by. All items on the menu were very high priced with some very average in quality. Enough said!

Restaurant was loud on a Friday night...although our steak was either medium or medium well, both were very, very dry. We waited almost an hour for our entree to arrive. We were disappointed because we had heard good reviews. The couple next to us was also disappointed with their meal and the wait time for their meal.

I went to RARE650 for my first wedding anniversary. We told the staff it was our wedding anniversary and two candles were put in our dessert that we had to pay for. I was hoping for a little more attention since it was a special occasion for us. A little disappointed for our special night out.

drinks were not what you’d expect for $16 each! had to send back my salad because the buffalo mozzarella was like liquid..maybe that’s how it’s supposed to be but it tasted horrible mixed with greens...sushi wasn’t bad but I’ve had far better. bread at the table was cold and only a plain olive oil was given. Compared to the last time we were here, this time was complete opposite experience...probably won’t go back

Service was excellent from host to bar to dinner. The ambiance is nice but the food was just ok , especially for the prices. The drinks , while also expensive , were not skimpy in the pours. Being in Syosset , i feel that the pricing should not try to compete with Manhattan or the overrated Hamptons. Overall , 3.5 stars.

We had a very enjoyable evening and our meals were delicious! Our waiters were attentive and knowledgeable. We were not thrilled with the whole crowded bar scene after 7:30-8pm on a Wed evening. Our goal was to have a cocktail at the bar before dinner. It was so crowded with people on their phones, saving seats, & monopolizing the bartender that we finished our drink quickly to be seated. My pocketbook was knocked off my chair twice by patrons pushing to get through the crowd but still talking on their phones and to each other. Surprising for middle aged clientele!
