Rare made eating an experience. Absolutely the best meal I have ever had. Jahar made our night special, and did an amazing job demonstrating his extensive knowledge on each dish on the menu. Truly perfect steaks, with an unmatched wine selection made for a wonderful evening. I will be stopping in again.
Overbearing wait staff. Every time we started in conversation the dining captain and trainee were there to ask how things were.
Food was outstanding.
On a busy Sunday night, got seated but took a longer while to make initial contact with wait staff. Food was good but overpriced.
No more Caesar salad prepared at table.
Some sides not available this day.
Granted, busy week-end, but service was poor.
Starting to feel more like a Texas Roadhouse than a high end restaurant.
Needs to go back to what made it a stand-out restaurant.
Great food atmosphere and service! We enjoyed the steaks and salads and chocolate cake was amazing. Reservation worked great!
Tom. Our server was amazing! Very knowledgeable regarding the menu
The bartender and manager were great!! We arrived 2 hours early hoping we might b able to get seated sometime before r actual reservation. The hostess was not helpful, but everyone else was, we got seated within 30 minutes! Thank u!!
We had a reservation at 9 and we didn’t get served until 10:30. The food showed up cold and the service was overall pretty slow. We did get our meal comp’d minus alcohol, several free desserts and a generous gift card, which was extremely appreciated. But, in all honesty it was a disappointing night and we aren’t really looking forward to using the gift card. :/
This is the most wonderful restaurant! The food is delicious and plentiful. The rest of my family loved their steak, and my fish was excellent. The seafood appetizer was also excellent, with a variety of shellfish. We split a huge piece of yummy chocolate cake with vanilla ice cream. We’ve been here before and will return again, especially for a special occasion. The only reason the ambiance wasn’t excellent is because they added tables to accommodate for graduation weekend.
Excellence in service, steak, and starters. Chef prepared a shrimp entree especially for my daughter, which was hailed as “perfect”. Filet mignons were exquisite, definitely my choice for our next visit. Genevieve was the perfect host for our pre-show evening - she suggested cheeses for our starter and they were phenomenal, as was her preparation of the kids’ Bananas Foster at our table. We waited for nothing, as the flow of delivery from drinks to food was exactly right for us. I highly suggest the ambience of the library dining room, it was the right amount of light and little noise, really made for a perfect dining experience.
Great food and great service
Excellent service and food. Our server, Ryan, went above and beyond to make our experience memorable. Every server made us feel welcome, and still managed to give us enough room to feel “private”. The porterhouse cannot be beat - I cannot wait to come back, this is the best steakhouse in Madison.
We love this restaurant. Its the best steakhouse in Madison, hands down. We had our wedding day dinner here and now we go every year for our anniversary. Their new chef, Jesse even offered to dry age two steaks for us in preparation for our anniversary next year. How special is that?! Recently, we had an AMAZING experience. Carly was an exceptional waitress. She made great recommendations and was very warm and welcoming. Their sommelier, Owen, recommended a great bottle of wine. The food is always amazing and if you are unhappy in any way and don’t speak up, that’s on you, because this place aims to please. We ordered the short-rib croquettes, lobster bisque (a must), we shared the tomahawk cut, there were beef fat fries and lobster mac n cheese for accompaniments, and you can’t forget the table-side banana foster for dessert. I highly recommend all the aforementioned dishes and this restaurant. We felt exceptionally well taken care and will be back again and again. Thank you, Rare, for a great dinning experience!
Dinner was fabulous! We came in 40 min before closing and they didn’t rush us at all. The service was out of this world and the food was so good.
Food delicious. Service good except that we had trouble getting our check in s timely fashion. Had an event after dinner and just barely made it.
Great food and service. Steak options were great!
I can't say enough about the great service we received. I happened to get a filet that was below standard, and the server and manager were both quite gracious in correcting the situation. Because we were attending a concert, we were short on time. They insisted (almost) that we return after the concert for a complimentary dessert. We did, and the chocolate cake was absolutely to die for. Impeccable service.
Great food and service. Would definitely return again.
Excellent as always!!
The venue is beautiful! But the food and service did not match the venue. Let’s start with the bruschetta... great presentation... but a lot more tomatoes than toast. I suggest cutting the tomatoes and 1/2 and then drizzle with the Saba... We also shared the Caesar salad... pretty good. The steaks all came out the same more rare than the medium we asked for and needed more seasoning. Loaded hash browns were really greasy. The popovers and butter were excellent, crisp on the outside, moist on inside... and warm! But the very best part of meal... chocolate cake. It was excellent.
Special place, exceptional service, excellent food, beautiful decor. Request to be seated in the library if you want it a little more quiet.
The best pace in town for steak and ambiance. we like to eat at the bar-street view always entertaining. Staff professional and engaging.
Food was absolutely delicious!! So enjoyable! Our server, Dani, was wonderful.
Went for “Overture Center Special Menu”. Time was a factor. Waiter insisted on reviewing whole menu. For us atmosphere was a bit “stuffy”. Food tasty, steak cooked perfectly, asparagus flavorful with some crunch.
Returned with two friends who were first time diners here. They live in the Twin Cities and were very impressed with RS from the moment we walked through the front door until we got our checked coats. Great food - steaks and seafood, salads and side dishes. Great service - just the right amount of attention to our table. Classic ambience surrounding the table. A very nice evening with friends.
Excellent food and great service. A bit noisy since tables are close together.
Food was ok. Generally under seasoned and oversold. Not worth the price, would go to Tornado or Fleming’s instead as they have more flavorful steaks for a similar price. I had the wedge, Capital cut, and chocolate truffle tart. My friend had the halibut which had a great crust but clearly over cooked leading to dry, tasteless fish. Nothing was very impressive. Service was attentive, almost overly attentive. Would not go back.
Food was excellent. Waitor was knowledgeable and well spoken. Staff was friendly.
Took family here for sons birthday. Service is exceptional! The food was great. The steaks are terrific. Save room for the creme brûlée
Our server was courteous, professional and helpful. And the food was outstanding.
Staff was unprofessional. One waiter was dropping the F bomb several times as we were dining. Did not seem like a well trained staff at all
Both vegetables and steaks were under cooked and steaks were not warm.
Jose was a phenomenal server. Steak was overcooked. GM tried to exchange for new cut but my wife and I were running out of time with babysitter. He bought me a beer instead...thank you. My wife and I do not splurge on such expensive meals so I was slightly disappointed that the one time we do, it was a bit of a let down. I would give it a 2nd chance.
Meals took 2 hours to arrive, bought a 1 year aged ribeye (special) & a bone in filet both MR. When they arrived the filet was cold & the ribeye was well done (charred). Sent them both back. Received the filet MR but zero flavor. The ribeye cake back after (my wife finished her flavorless filet) & was completely raw...like frozen in the middle raw. Sent it back again...finally got it MR but the amount of fat on it made the whole steak about 3 bites of meat that was mediocre at best.
Had been there a year prior & loved it. Was super disappointed this time round.
Best part of the meal was our silver oak wine.
Also, they discontinued the peppercorn sauce which was my wife’s favorite.
Sadly we were looking for a place to be our monthly date night staple & we are now back on the hunt.
The server throughout the mess was apologetic.
This was our families first time and we were completely impressed with the staff, our waiter ( Jose was funny and awesome), and our food was excellent. Thank you for a wonderful evening.
Took forever to get our main meal and then it was overcooked. The staff was great and they offered free appetizer and a drink, but being at a restaurant for two hours just to eat is a bit much for just mediocre food in my opinion.
Off the menu item. 1 year Dry Aged ribeye steak!! It was Fantastic!!!!
Shockingly we were hugely disappointed. Our prior dining experiences at Rare have been excellent. We hadn't been there for a few months but this time the service was barely adequate. The steak was cold. The julienne au gratin potatoes are off the menu and the new loaded hash browns were horrible, overdone hard and served cold. The manager comp'd most of our meal but not the special night we wanted.
Send first steak back, ordered medium rare, came out almost well done. Second steak was raw in the middle, cold. I was then charged for 2 steaks and 2 side dishes , later. corrected after I pointed it out to the server.
We won’t be back !
