Great place to eat! The ambience and wait staff were wonderful. Ryan, our waiter greated us by name and was so helpful. It was fantastic. The gentleman who brought us our meal (I'm sorry to not know his name) was just as engaging and kind. Our food was decadent. The filet and scallops were amazing. Can't say enough about our experience. We will definitely return to this restaurant.
Great service and along with the best steak! It made our evening complete prior to a show at Overture Hall
Exceptional, as always. Steaks perfectly cooked. Service unobtrusive with impeccable timing. We each had the 8 oz filet -- all were cooked exactly right. We shared an order of hash browns. Delicious with crispy edges. The chopped salad was perfectly dressed and large enough to share with another. The french onion soup was nothing special and not worth the cost. There are other things to spend the money on that would be much more impressive. The split chocolate cake to finish the meal was outstanding and plenty big for the three of us to share. Coffee was strong and delicious and the staff kept our cups hot with frequent but almost unnoticeable refills. Without any alcohol, 3 steaks, soup for 1, salad for 1, a single shared side, a single shared desert and three coffees, our bill came to nearly $200. The price is intimidating, so I'm glad we asked about sizes of the opening soup/salad and the side dish so we could determine what we could share and what we needed to order individually. It would be nice if some minimal accompaniment came with the steak to help mitigate the cost a bit. While it is certainly not a cheap meal and not one that we would do very often because of the expense, the food, service, and ambiance were perfect and I would highly recommend for a special occasion.
Family of 5 for mother’s birthday had a great meal and experience. Everything was wonderful!
Close access to Overture for dinner before Musical, program or concert. Great food and service.
Service was great, but food was nothing special especially for the price. A lot of money spent for so-so food
Steak is amazing as is the table side made Caesar salad and Banana’s Foster. Always come here when in Madison.
We had an amazing time at Rare Steakhouse. We had received a gift certificate for our wedding and decided to save it for our one year anniversary. We were not disappointed! Jahar was very knowledgeable of the menu, suggested drinks and appetizers that did not disappoint, and gave exemplary service. We are hoping to make this a yearly event and cannot wait to be back!
Our oldest grandson turned 18 years old and we wanted to give him a dinning experience that he would not forget. He was not disappointed. Great food, atmosphere, and staff.
Food and wait staff were excellent. Inviting ambiance.
Excellent meal with great service. Everything cooked to perfection.
Service was fantastic. Our steaks were perfectly prepared. Husband and I went for a birthday dinner. Would definitely recommend and will return.
This was a first visit to Rare Steakhouse, and we will definitely be returning. Once a year, my wife and I go out for a very nice dinner, and I surprised her by choosing a location we had not yet tried. Our server Tom, was attentive, knowledgeable, and courteous. The food was outstanding, and priced comparably with other local steakhouses. The interior was absolutely beautiful... my wife commented a number of times as we ate how wonderful the ambiance and interior were. The one minor downside (and quite minor) was a group of guests sitting near us who were, in our opinion, a bit too loud and rowdy for the restaurant. We otherwise were very impressed.
AMAZING service and food. Very expensive but worth it for special occasions.
Best in Madison
Elegant ambiance, dry aged and Wayge steaks that simply are not available most places. Outstanding complex flavors to the lobster dishes. Fine wine. It was a fabulous experience.
My husband and I had a “total dining experience” during our first visit to Rare Steakhouse. The service was exceptional despite a very busy Valentine’s Day dinner rush. The food and wine were great. We enjoyed it all immensely. Thank you for a memorable dinner!
Absolutely amazing food and service. We have been here a few times and never disappointed. Worth the 2 hour drive.
Service was awful. Food was great. It was a Valentine’s Day dinner, and after our order was taken, we were essentially ignored the rest of the dinner.
Excellent food and service! Steaks are the best in the city!
Second visit to RARE and it was as good as ever. Wonderful wait staff and great dishes. One of our favorites in Madison.
An amazing Valentine dinner with my sweetheart. Our server, Genevieve, was the best I’ve ever had.
This was a Valentine treat for my wife. We’d been to Rare many times and it has always been quite good. But one shouldn’t go there on special occasions. The staff was clearly overmatched by the volume of guests. It took more than 25 minutes after ordering to get a simple wedge salad. Then, it arrived without my wife’s appetizer, which took another ten minutes for the kitchen to scare up. Forty-five minutes after salad and appetizers, steaks arrived. The food was so salty we couldn’t eat it. They comped one meal in acknowledgement of the issues. Another 35 minutes after clearing the uneaten steak, a small piece of cake appeared. It was fine. My wife and I enjoyed visiting, and the Jordan wine was excellent. But we were amazed that we got to Rare at 6:30 and left at 9:45. Really bad experience.
Go there for birthdays or anniversaries. But stay away on broader holidays.
Amazing! Very pricey but worth every cent.
I had the best steak (i had 8oz filet) I’ve ever had in my entire life. My husbands had Lobster and it was huge and delicious. The baked potato was enough for two people for sure. We didn’t like the Broccoli so I wouldn’t recommend that. Service was exceptional. It was probably one of the prettiest atmosphere is for restaurant that I’ve ever been. Super romantic. Highly recommended.
Easily one of the best steakhouses in the Midwest. Extra touches like the popovers and Bananas Foster really put it over the top. Great staff as well
Other than the soup being luke warm and the popovers being very burnt, the steak, salad and potatoes were very good. We will try another steak house next time.
One of the greatest steahouses in the nation. Personal, top notch service. Excellent bar and wine list. Perfectly aged and prepared steaks. Must go wheren in Madison!
I was disappointed with the food. The bread was burnt at the bottom. We asked for another batch hoping that the new batch wouldn’t be burnt, it was burnt as well. I’m shocked they served the burnt bread, esp. at a fancy restaurant. The chopped salad had too much sea salt on it. I never had a salad that was so salty. Let’s not talk about the steak, not sure what they had on top but it was way too salty. We had to scrape it off the steak. I left disappointed since it was my bday dinner. Plus, I was so thirsty with all the salt on my food. Not sure if it was just a bad night since we’ve eaten here before and the food was way better. Maybe the main chef was sick??
Soup was outstanding, however it took forever to get bread, that was disappointing. Steaks were very good, but I've had better....but I'll still return. Outstanding service, always checking on us and the desserts were awesome.
Excellent! Best steak in town, by a significant margin.
Everything about the service and food were top notch and exceeding expectations. Some of the best food we’ve ever had. If there was anything that was less than enjoyable was the noise level in the bar. Something was going on in he bar and the noise level made it difficult to hear and have a conversation at times. Didn’t ruin the dinner but didn’t help with the idea of a romantic dinner.
Excellent service, excellent food, excellent atmosphere. We'll be back to this place again for sure.
Food was great. Difficult to park near by.
We have eaten at Rare before and for some reason I remember the food being better. The service has been stellar each time. The food was mediocre especially for the cost. Many other alternatives in the area with better food at a more moderate price.
One word SUCCULENT . The best bananas foster I’ve ever ate!
Awesome as usual. The best restaurant in town. Great service & food. The bar also has great bartenders .
Restaurant Week so selection was minimal but very good. Waiter was nice but not overly friendly. Seemed to just be going through the motions. Did not explain in detail the menu or how it worked, but heard him go through a complete explanation of the menu to the table next to us (without the couple asking). We’ve done Restaurant Week before so realize there are no substitutions but my wife asked for one and was told she couldn’t. Most waiters will ask whether there is a food allergy or intolerance (which my wife has) and accommodate. Didn’t even ask. Otherwise a very nice dinner.
It was wonderful, we didn’t know it was restaurant week in Madison but the menu was great. Delicious food and drinks, service was fantastic and the atmosphere was perfect for our anniversary dinner. Definitely would go again.
Went for restaurant week. Menu offing was great. Red wine list is wonderful! Service and food was fabulous!!! Restaurant week price point was good. Everyday prices on the menu are way too expensive. Menu prices seem to be geared toward people on large expense accounts.
