Worst dining experience I've had in NYC in the last 10 years!
- Restaurant wasn't busy
- 30 minutes to get menus and water
- Server hungover (I think)
- Manager drunk (smelled like alcohol)
- All food was cold. Burger we wanted well done and it came raw.
- Asked for coffee
Server: "have to check on it"
30 mins later
Server: "its being made"
15 mins later
Server: "you want it now?
15 mins later
Server: "the coffee machine is broken."
- Gratuity already added @ 22%
Bar Staff weren’t interested in serving anyone and not the friendliest. Chicken was undercooked and inedible. Sent back twice.
Loved the lobster sandwich and corn mix salad! My picky eater son got his burger the way he wanted it and ate it all. The manager David was super accommodating and a wonderful host. Will definitely come back
First of all so slow service,
Once we orders food we had to wait so long for food to come, and once we got it, it was cold, and not everyone got there order, and some orders were wrong orders, we had to ask again for correct orders, some of us was already eating and some just waiting for food, after appetizers they didn’t took off old plates, we had to ask more then once, for drinks we had to ask many times..
for everything they were “oh I’m sorry it’s coming” we orders beer and still so long to get and always some one was missing there order for drinks as well..
the only thing came very fast was the check..
we were 10 people and we didn’t enjoyed
Lunch was very good. Was not very busy at all and we ate in the bar area. Service was bit slow in our opinion but not too bad.
This used to be a good restaurant and I would go at least once a month but it has really declined in the last few years. Great menu items are gone and the ones that remain are different (worse) even though described the same. Service was not good. Missed an item on the order and not even a real apology let alone anything comped, as is customary - still paid full price for the missing item even though we had to wait another 15 minutes for it. Even the fry dipping sauce is now way too runny to be called "aioli." I could go on, but I can only hope management changes back to how it used to be.
I already recommended Rare to one of my close friends. He actually went there the next day with his wife and they both loved it.
Ribs and burgers are Awesome
A Great find! we were looking for a more casual place before going to MSG. We read the reviews and decided to give it a try. It is part of the Hilton Hotel. Main Floor has a bar and then downstairs is the main dining. The decor is very nice and casual. Food was very good, we had the fries to start and it is enough for four people easy. Then we had burgers, wine and the Mac & Cheese, all was very good. For dessert we had the Apple Pie which was wonderful. But best of all was the service, so nice and polite and attentive.
The service was mediocre. Food was fairly good but a bit overpriced. Nothing to blow your socks off.
Amazing service and food! My brother enjoyed his birthday so much. Susan was amazing. Thank you!
They said there rooftop was open. And this is the second we have come and its closed so be careful on their website. The rooftop doesn't open till 5 so they say
Great spot if attending a show at MSG. We had a table in the bar so a little noisy. Our server was super. Very attentive and got us out in plenty of time.
Great wings and excellent steak with raclette cheese on top. My husband had the lobster burger which he said was also great. Would go back!
Ive been here a few times already, and both the service and food have always been great!
Loved David. Ashley was kind of rude to us. Was very disappointed that there was no sparkling water and bread.
Too dark inside
Rare Bar & Grill was a great discovery! Burgers were large, flavorful and cooked perfectly. Location is very convenient to Penn Station and staff was very professional and courteous. After dinner enjoy a delicious cocktail in the bar on the main level or up on the rooftop. Overall, a great experience!
We got a burger, fries, and soda for lunch and it was about $35/person. Shoulda went to McDonald’s.
A nice place to have a business lunch. Quiet and good food.
Great location, great people. The hamburger was awesome. The next time in New York we come back for sure
I ate here because the restaurant was a part of the hotel. The food wasn't that great, a couple of things were forgotten and such. We had a huge party and the server wasn't set with an expectation of split bills so it became a problem. We should've advised the server, so that's our fault.
One of us one month to young for a rooftop drink....pity
Food was pretty good. But liquor selection was limited and ambiance just ok.
The food wasn't great and the service was not good at all. Kept bringing out the wrong drinks and taking forever.
Love the spacious dining room. Also had fun on the rooftop bar.
Had a burger special. it was pretty good. Quiet place for a hot date.
To begin, I sent these comments directly to Rare on March 25th. As of today, April 2nd no response.. They have a comments section on their webpage. WHY ASK IF NO ACKNOWLEDGEMENT OF COMMENTS. Therefore, now sharing our experience.
Spent $200 this time. We often see shows at MSG with a large group and do pre-show dinner/drinks. Obviously doesn't need our business.
Very disappointing experience on Monday March 18th for dinner at the 26th street location.
Our party had 9 drinks at the bar prior to dinner.
Service was very good.
Would have liked to have sat in corner booth but OMG the ripped up seats are deplorable!! I should have taken a picture.
Sat for dinner and very nice service knew we had a show at MSG and was attentive.
Had to wait for 2 others in our party.
We ordered as soon as they arrived- 7 pm.
Asked for Fried Pickles and trio of fries to come out with burgers. Not. Came out prior
Server was very apologetic as food (5 burgers) took super long to come out.
We ordered 2 more rounds of beers while waiting.
Burgers finally came out.
I ordered a regular burger lettuce tomato and instead of onion extra tomato.
My dish had a corn salsa. In hind-site I should have eaten it. Told the server who said it was an error and the organic burger. Took it back. At this point it was 7:40- sitting from 7 pm
Everyone was just about finished when my burger came out
I ordered medium rare- Since I was in a rush I would have eaten rare- IT was completely uncooked- RAW!!!!!! my husband eats his meat mooing and said this was dangerously undone.
Too late for me to eat. Show called for 8 and we needed to get out of there.
He took burger off the bill.
No manager came over- SOOO disappointed.
The best burgers in town! Always attentive service and casual atmosphere
A group of us visited nyc to celebrate my birthday, and I have To say our service and food were fantastic. Our waiter, Demetrius, went over and beyond normal service!! His energy and personality made our experience. The food was AMAZING! Burgers cooked to perfection and the fry basket is a must! Overall, nice fresh food! Hands down an amazing 3hour dinner! Highly recommend!!!
Please consider this restaurant was found via Google Maps under "burgers", so the research conducted was conducted from that alone. We wanted our occasional grass-fed beef fix, and this was marketed as a good restaurant for said protein. The advertising for this restaurant - separate from, but integrated into the Hilton property - makes it seem as though you will be dining on a rooftop with "rare" views of Manhattan, and with OpenTable handy to book a reservation, it seems like one may be warranted. Not necessary at all - upon arrival at the host station, it's clear this is a hotel lobby sports bar, and mostly empty. We're offered a spot at the bar or one of the homely tables with a /rare/ view of the hotel lobby through the partition; then, it's mentioned there's a downstairs dining area. Yes, please, there. However, it reveals itself to be a garish dining space, like a Chipotle inside a Doubletree lobby, with poorly thought-out decor and ambience. The host tried to seat us in two bad locations when there was clearly no hustle nor bustle in effect, but all was worked out and the service was OK. The beers we ordered were quite flat, clearly old and not well-maintained for a place charging $8 for a pint of Goose Island IPA. The burgers - cooked, ahem, RARE - were grilled to order and had a nice clean flavor, but no seasoning or anything to make it unique. Good thing it came with a raw white onion, lettuce and tomato! All-in-all, the whole experience was rather humorous, but in reality, not worth going out of anyone's way for. Oh, after we finished our meal, we had to peek the actual rooftop bar - it was lively, if a bit cheesy for my sensibilities, but the views are decent for Chelsea/Midtown. Only catered food, presumably from the downstairs kitchen, was served to a group in birthday revelry. This is clearly a beer and cocktail bar, not where you'll be enjoying a meal.
The place was freezing. Pipes were frozen and restaurant still open. Had to eat with winter coats on and there was no special or reduction in total bill for this inconvenience.
Staff tremendous. Food horrible.
The organic hamburger was delicious! The waiters were delightful and prompt. Our group enjoyed their hamburgers with all the trimming.
The food was awesome and our hostess was very nice. We were greeted at the door with a smile. Our server was quite nice also. The restaurant was not quite open yet but we were escorted in out of the cold. I did think it was a bit too pricey but overall, good experience. I would recommend.
We had a fabulous bar tender, server, and meal!!
We had all three of the specialty burgers. They were delicious. Everything we had was fantastic from the drinks to the dessert. Made even better by the excellent service. Demetrius was great.
Great service and staff
Excellent eggs Benedict!
