Enjoyed the environment and service was very nice.
Service was awful for a restaurant that was not full. Wait staff was slow and did not respond when asked. Manager was equally bad. We had to take silverware from another table because they never brought us any when asked, ketchup never showed up, no menus provided when seated, etc. Several other couples left after being seated due to a lack of service. Food was good but not good enough to offset the extremely poor service. Shame on them!
I really enjoy having lunch at Rapture. The staff was really nice and the food was good. I would definitely come back again!
This is really more of a tavern/billiard hall than a restaurant, despite its nice appearance online. We were seated in a booth with a seat primarily constructed of black duct tape. My wife and I ordered drinks, and she received hers in a timely fashion. I ordered a beer, and the keg apparently kicked when they attempted to pour it. Instead of letting me know this, they simply brought my wife’s drink, said nothing, and left me without a drink until I asked about it about 10 mins later... a long enough time that my wife was ready for her second drink.
We each ordered the hanger steak, which was cooked medium in appearance per our order, but came out cold like it was rare. The sides were hot, so this might have been a timing problem in the kitchen. The seasoning was all good, and I suspect they probably have better nights than this, but based on this visit I wouldn’t return.
Stuffed acorn squash is one of my favorites on the menu. Even when the restaurant is relatively empty, the service sometimes needs a nudge (please fill my water glass). Some good, fairly priced wines by the glass. You can get in and out quickly and only park once if you are headed to a movie or the Paramount.
The bathrooms were absolutely disgusting. Like terribly gross. Our waitress was SUPERB!!!
Excellent service, good food, vegetarian options and near the Paramount Theatre on the Downtown Mall. We enjoy Rapture.
They were a little short staffed but our waitress was lovely. Very friendly and attentive.
VERY accommodating...initially hostess said we made our reservation too late....no tables would be avail .( made res. about an hour before we got there)...apparently something didn't close out on Open Table...or they didn't delete avail reservations. Anyway we were ready to leave and hostess had us hold on...she than took us to the back bar area with tables, which didn't have wait staff normally there,,,but they appointed a great waitress to come back and take care of us. Glad we could eat there everything great VERY reasonable...
Gathering of friends. Great food. Pre-concert so things got busy, but a great time
Miss Margret is the best server I have ever came across!!! She is phenomenal and made the experience fantastic.
Several vegetarian options. Nice location on the downtown pedestrian mall.
I have enjoyed many a meal here in the past. On this occasion, sadly, it was not to be. The risotto was unrecognizable as such: over-stirred to a sludge, lacking in any detectable flavor, and reminding one of very sad porridge.
The fried chicken thighs were possibly the best fried chicken I've had. Just the right sear on that chicken to make the outside crunchy and the inside moist -- literally falling off the bone. Bone-sucking optional, but recommended.
Pleasant table on the Mail, should have ordered more regular food!
Great meal and friendly staff!
We had a good experience overall. I wish our server would have cleaned the table between courses. The shrimp and grits were very good, the chicken sandwich was also very good, the fried chicken thighs were very small and not memorable. We all agreed we would try again.
It was an enjoyable meal, but I feel like the menu could be more innovative For a place that labels it self “farm to table”
Overall it was a very pleasurable experience and a good value for the price.
The pork belly was cooked to perfection. The macaroni and cheese and collards were seasoned and delicious. The summer squash and mushroom risotto was fabulous. Thoroughly enjoyed our dinner
On a busy Friday night Rapture was able to fit our 8-top pretty quickly, and we had an enjoyable meal. As the dinner crowd shifted into the bar crowd it got a bit noisy, but not enough to dampen our enthusiasm for the food, the service, or the ambience.
It was Fathers Day Brunch. I had the Eggs Chesapeake (2 pouched eggs on 2 carb cakes) and my wife had Eggs Benedict both with Cheesy Grits. The grits were creamy and delicious! Both our meals were good. Though I feel the crab cakes were unexpectedly smaller then expected (as big as as the poached eggs). Otherwise the meal was delicious.
Always good, friendly and tasty! An amazing Downtown Mall institution!
First, you have to love a restaurant that has cocktails with names like "The Mueller Report", where the ingredients are blacked out, and the Kavanaugh Supreme, which consists of "34 oz. of beer and......" (you'll have to go there to read the rest). We sat outside on the lively yet mellow downtown Charlottesville pedestrian mall and people-watched as we sipped our cocktails, listened to street musicians and enjoyed our dinner. We split the Ahi Tuna club - a piece of sushi quality tuna, lightly seared on both sides with avocado, applewood bacon and a wasabi aioli on whole wheat toast, and a plate of shrimp, sauteed in garlic and evoo, just the way I like them, served with grits. Everything was very delicious, the service was just right. If we lived there, this would be a place we would return to again and again. Their menu had many interesting choices and the ambience was welcoming and relaxing.
Our friends came into town for UVA graduation and we wanted somewhere to get brunch Sunday morning. The food and service were amazing!!! I can’t wait to go again.
Excellent service for a large group. Most of the food was quite good. One person in the party thought a burger was overcooked but most enjoyed everything. Service team took care of it. Would go back.
One of my fave places in CVille — easily some of the best food in town, with great staff and location.
It was advertised as kid friendly. Waitress brought the food for the children first which was great it was very kid friendly in that respect. But no changing to a table in the bathrooms that was a problem thank you otherwise the experience was terrific
We love Rapture. It’s our favorite place to enjoy an evening out
Love the brunch menu! The chicken & biscuit with pimento cheese is amazing!!! Food was incredible & service was excellent. No complaints!
The food was tasty, and the serving portions were generous. We ordered Deviled Eggs and the Soup of the Day (mushroom soup) for starters, the Hogwalla Hambuger and meatloaf for our entrees. For our kids, we ordered chicken tenders and and PB&J (both off the Kids' menu). We also ordered a bottle of wine, which was fairly priced, and spiked coffee for "dessert."
Service was excellent. The waiter was friendly and considerate--mindful that we had two toddlers, she brought out their food first, and our food shortly after.
My fiancé and I were so excited to try Rapture after reading the menu online, but the experience was less than memorable. The staff was inattentive and less than welcoming and even though we made a reservation, our reserved table was right next to the main door (we requested to move since a draft came in every time the door opened). Even though the menu descriptions looked delicious, my fiancé’s short ribs had no flavor and my shrimp and grits were doused in a heavy sauce with no other seasonings. We ordered hush puppies as an appetizer and they were unseasoned and tough. My fiancé has never been more disappointed in a date night and I really can’t recommend this place to anyone.
We went prior to the Paramount Gala and by 8 o’clock they ran out of 4 entrees. The one I came for was the pork chop and my dates favorite was shrimp and grits. Both out. Disappointing
We enjoyed the wings and short ribs! Ask for Janet.
Early dinner reservations on New Years Eve were the right call. The food was well prepared and tasty, and our service was great. Volume picks up as the dining room fills, but we were always able to hear and speak across our table of 5 without issue.
The worst tuna club I’ve ever tried to eat. It was anything but rare and the tuna was almost as dry at the the over toasted wheat bread it was sandwiched between. The side of veggies seemed as though they were cooked too long in the microwave. Who ever was responsible for preparing my meal either has no love for what they do or no skill to do it. Or both.
Horrible. Wouldn't honor our open table reservation.
Please do your best to avoid this restaurant if at all possible. In the interest of full disclosure, my family and I have had excellent meals at Rapture in the past. That said, you are likely to be frustrated and disappointed if you take the time to make reservations. The restaurant has a very disturbing — if not enraging — habit of failing to honor reservations. I arrived for Sunday brunch yesterday on time for my 11:30 am reservation; the restaurant was crowded. I clearly announced my party size and reservation time. Notwithstanding that fact, the primary host seated 2 groups of walk-ins before even attempting to seat our party. At that point (11:42 am, 12 minutes after my arrival), she indicated she was “sorry” for seating the other groups prior to my group. She then stated that she had only a high top table and a booth with ripped leather-ish seating and a rickety table top she said she “wasn’t sure could be stabilized.”
We found this entire scenario rather disconcerting and left. We will not return.
We went for brunch on Sunday. The cocktail options were fun. The food was delicious and unique. Loved the pork belly eggs benedict with grits and the beet version of eggs benedict.
