The food was very good and the service extremely good.
This was my first visit to Rapscallion's although I've known of it for quite some time. My date had the surf & turf and I had the scallop/fettuccini dish. The filet mignon was cooked to perfection!! I'm talking melt-in-your-mouth good! The sauce for the fettuccini was creamy and rich and the scallops were cooked just right. The fettuccini itself was perfectly aldente.
The wait staff were friendly, prompt, courteous and not overbearing. I can assure you I will be a repeat customer at Rapscallion's.
Our waiter (Cedar) very professional and friendly. Made the dinner so much better!
Our waiter was not attentive and was rude. Waiter was pushing for us to order the most expensive wines when we did not do so he was rude. Waiter forgot part of our meal. Ordered salad and did not get it.
Salads, desserts and entrees were all good. Veg not cooked enough which is unusual. Rice is too aromatic for the entrees. Service was just ok because our waiter only had one table in our section so how could he possibly read our table from another room. The “servers” were very good. I was so pleased with the fact that they didn’t have to ask who got what. I hate that. SO coffee shop. Overall it was fun and a very good value. We went on a Tuesday. We didn’t know about the Tuesday special. And Frank Family Chardonnay for $39! It’s about that at the store! Incredible! Yes, we’d go back.
Prime rib seemed smaller than 14 oz. Everything else was great.
The setting was very nice. We were seated in a booth in the bar area, it was very nice. The service was excellent and the staff was very friendly. The prices were very good. Will go again when I am Reno again.
We booked a reservation for Mother’s Day at 2pm. We were looking forward to an upscale brunch. Sadly, our orders were received in less than stellar condition! My wife & I order two different eggs Benedict dishes both were delivered just above cold. My wife sent her’s back, it was returned shortly after just slightly warmer (inedible). My son ordered a steak, that was barely worthy of Denny’s. It appears that the food was prepared hours earlier, stored and warmed prior to service. The Hollandaise sauce seemed almost curdled and dried out. The English muffins seemed stale. They removed my wife’s meal from the bill and offered her a desert. Needless to say it is “Off her List”. Happy Mother’s Day NOT!
Mother’s Day lunch, brunch. Everything was exceptional but realized later we were too early for the dinner menu.
Good quality and quantity of food. Fair price. Nice atmosphere.
Wonderful Mother’s Day Brunch
I wish Rapscillion would bring back Sunday Brunch...it was the best in town
Poor beginnings...took forever to get our drinks. Was told several times that bread would be brought to our table, again it took forever. We placed order for dinner and appetizer. The dinner salads were delivered before the appetizer, which was so small only two people could eat it. Four dinners were served...one was cold, one was over cooked and dry and the other was not cooked as described on the menu. It had been several years since our last visit and sadly we probably won’t return.
This restaurant has a very nice ambiance with great service, beautifully rustic interior with lots of history, and very good cuisine. We sat in a booth which offered a little extra privacy. I had the swordfish which I don't typically order and have to say that it was probably the best swordfish I've had. My father had seafood cioppino and he loved it. My mother had the shrimp scampi and loved it. The warm bread is delicious and the wine list is good and not over priced. I would certainly dine there again and look forward to doing so someday in the near future! Parting thought, the bar looked quite nice too with live musician - worth a happy hour stop!
We eaten at Rapscallion on several occasions. This particular evening was not our best experience. Shrimp Scampi was okay - shrimp may have been overcooked. Veal Scallopini was just okay; served in a rather heavy cream sauce which I didn't expect. Our server (Andee) tried really hard to keep up with her tables but it was crazy busy so hard for her to manage. The upside - split a house salad which was presented beautifully and even nicer, no charge for splitting.
We were greeted with a smile and our table was ready. Our server Ceder was excellent and the food was did not disappoint. We will be back.
Excellent service and excellent food. This restaurant has the wonderful mid 20th century all time restaurant atmosphere. All of their staff is courteous and helpful. I actually had it in my head that our reservation was at 6:30 but it was at 5:30. At 6:00 p.m. as we were driving into the parking lot, they called me to ask if I was delayed and could they continue holding our reservation for us. I have never had a restaurant these at accommodating. Good old fashion courtesy!
The service was quick and our waiter, Eliad, was really friendly. The food was delicious!! I will definitely come here again, and I've already recommended this place to friends!
We always go to Rapscillion before attending the Reno Philharmonic and we’re never disappointed
The server was friendly and very helpful since one of the party was on a strict time schedule. The order was served as quickly as it could be and was piping hot. Of course, when I go to the Rapscallion I will always have seafood. It is delicious and beautifully prepared.
I was disappointed that the menu had been shortened quite a bit so what I had wanted originally(Petrale Sole or the Sand Dabs) apparently is no longer served, as well as several of the other seafood dishes. Perhaps it has something to do with the season. However, I had eaten their about 6 weeks ago and it was still the old menu.
I have been to Reno on numerous business occasions but always ended up dining at one of the "name" casino restaurants. For shame! This is a classic seafood restaurant with a well-earned place in Reno history. Don;t let the neighborhood fool you, this is well worth the effort.
I have been going to the Rapscallion for over 25 years, and unfortunately the service and quality of food has diminished to the point of not returning. My daughter had the petite filet and I had the NY strip. The wait for the food was so long that the "manager" agreed to pay for dessert. When the food arrived both were cold. Mine was re-fired which took the meat from medium rare to medium plus. I had a conversation with the "manager" after the meal and did receive a sorry...
Unfortunately my last meal at Rapscallion.
My husband and I went to Rapscallion last Saturday night for dinner. The food was fantastic and the service was great. Thank you for such a nice evening.
Dinner at Rapscallion is always good, Tui our waiter is always fantastic very professional and fantastic service.
We have been to the restaurant many times. It is a special place for us. We even have a favorite server. Sadly it seemed this trip the noise level was very loud. Otherwise it is a favored place.
Rapscallion is our go-to place for great ambiance, service and seafood. Don't miss their Steamed Clams or Mussels (we mixed both) in a butter, garlic, shallot sauce -- outstanding. Their fish preparations are always great -- on our last visit I had the Horseradish Encrusted Halibut with Garlic Mashed Potatoes, and my husband had the Rapscallion Trio which included Halibut, Salmon and Prawns in a Lobster Bisque Sauce. The service was impeccable (even given the fact that the restaurant was packed). The was full of diners and drinkers having a good time. Highly recommend this spot!
Interesting that you asked if it was a special occasion when making reservation, but never mentioned it during the evening!
We always enjoy eating here as the menu has a nice variety of options plus they can prepare foods gluten-free.
We met up with old friends for a birthday celebration. The sea food is some of the best we've had in Reno, ceaser salad was very good. The service was good and waiter helpful and friendly. We will go back.
Rapscallion's is a great place to go for a special occasion. They also have great specials during the week that make it an affordable evening out. Always good food and good service.
Easter meal, the only offerings were mostly breakfast items, no ham, no scalloped potatoes... The prime rib would have been nice, but they didn’t think it would go over well so they sold out in first 2 hours. 2pm brunch was sparse. Rather than getting up to leave, we ordered a couple of wedge salads which were okay. After leaving, we went to the market and I made us a real meal.
Eggs Benedict was just so - so. It seemed as though the muffin was straight out of the bag. Not toasted Bland hollandaise I can cook this poorly at home.
Good wine list. Saved the date.
Service was not good. Restaurant slow and food still came out at 20 min for two mr steaks
We had to return both our dinners because they were underdone. My wife had the mixed grill and her meat was very chewy. The waiter did his best to make it right...he (Iliad) was a very good waiter. Drinks were good. It was our 50th wedding anniversary and overall the evening was good, but we were very disappointed with the food.
Our first visit to Rapscallion’s. The Horseradish Encrusted Halibut was brilliant, and the ribeye was tender and flavorful. Excellent wine selection. Excellent wait staff.
I've been eating here for 40 years and loving it until recently. They book big parties very often. When they do, the dining room is left with very few servers. There were only 2 servers in the entire dining room! Therefore the service was SLOW!!! I won't be returning. Too bad.
I love the atmosphere at Rapscallion. However, the food is inconsistent and the service is very slow. I ordered swordfish with polenta. The fish smelled when brought to table and it was on a bed of mushy goo. None of the meal had and flavor. I had to send it back.
We had an excellent meal. Enjoyed the fact that bottles of wine are half off on Monday nights. This was a pleasant surprise.
Always excellent. Andi is always an excellent server. Very good food and wine selection.
Good menu, excellent “old world” service, lovely classic decor. My halibut was a little dry but not terrible. I’d ask them to cook it less next time. My husband’s steak was cooked to perfection. We’d go back again for sure.
We went for my wife’s birthday first time there. It was a great experience from the waiter to the food all was exceptional. We highly recommend it. Ambiance is very nice also.
