Great evening especially if you dine on the patio.
Lovely atmosphere and always friendly service with excellent food!
Best food. Best drinks. Best ambiance. Best staff.
We have now been to Rao's twice and both times, the experience has been great! Our waiter was timely, friendly, and informative. The food all-around our table of four was fantastic. I loved the double cut pork chop especially and the stuffed mushrooms everyone enjoyed. On top of the excellent food, the atmosphere is classy and fun.
Amazing service and excellent authentic Italian.
Love, love, love this place! It's like being transported to NYC for a great Italian dinner. Great vibe and terrific people... and the food! Amazing! Whether you're celebrating a special occasion or it''s just Wednesday (or any day), Rao's is the place to be. Cheers to Patrick and the gang!
A favorite, pure and simple. Fun, delicious, unique.
One cannot miss having a good meal here. Excellent food knowledgeable and friendly staff make for a fun meal.
Food and service were great. Booth for 2 was a bit cramped and uncomfortable; would ask for a table next time.
This was our first visit to the legendary Rao's. The decor was like stepping back into the '40s or '50s. The martinis were COLD and perfect. We split a Caesar's Salad to start, which was big enough for three people. My wife had the double pork chop. I had never seen one that large. It was well seasoned and we took half of it home for sandwiches the next day. We also split a side of perfect spaghetti. For dessert we shared the N.Y. Cheesecake. We hadn't experienced one that good since our last visit to NYC. This one may be even better. The place is very expensive, but it is a memorable experience.
A long wait for our meal, while other diners who arrived later enjoyed theirs. When it did finally arrive, it was over cooked flavorless and tough.
Would not recommend to anyone- NYC restaurant much better.
Very good food, and lovely service -- the biggest problem? Being sat at a postage-size table for two. We're talking a SMALL table that actually made us worry we'd knock a glass of wine over while reaching for the olive oil. Additionally, the table was wonky. Not sure if the floor was uneven, or the table legs were uneven, but there's nothing more annoying than paying upwards of $200 for dinner for two and every time one of you rests your arm on the table, the other side of the table lifts up and down. Like a seesaw. For these prices, guys, come on -- invest in some type of technology to have your tables sturdy! They had these tiny plastic table leg adjusters, but nothing really worked until we put a piece of folded paper under one of the legs. (Fancy!) Anyway -- the food was very good (although the brussel sprouts were just okay). And the service was lovely. (Our poor server was a little mortified about the table as well.) Overall a nice dinner though. I would recommend -- but avoid the tiny little tables for two in the open space. Grab one of the two-person booths if you can. (We asked to move to one of those, but obviously weren't special enough. LOL.) :-)
It was our first time here, Host was amazing and polite. Our server Kevin and Ryan were even more amazing. They went above and beyond with everything. Food was great and my daughters really enjoyed themselves.
I've been to the original Rao's in Harlem, New York City so I know whereof I speak. Though the ambiance is different, the one in L.A. is more stylish as opposed to the one in Harlem, which is more down to earth Italian homey, the food is equally as amazing. If you love Southern Italian cooking, Rao's can not be beat. We started with the mussels and they blew us away. Great sized mussels in an incredible garlicky, lemony sauce with grilled ciabatta to soak up the sauce. Then we shared the veal parmigiana, which is easily big enough for two. Perfect veal, tons of fresh mozzarella cheese and that incredible Rao's sauce. Heaven. No room for dessert. Maybe next time. I highly recommend Rao's and I grew up in the New York City area, so I know good Italian food! (Too snobby??? Too bad, it's true.)
Frankly, I've been there many times before and have enjoyed the meatballs and sauce. I also buy it at the store. Meatballs were good. The sauce was either left over and over cooked. Disappointing.
Noah was a great server. Just a very loud place but they placed us in a quieter area and it was fine. Food was really tasty, but quite pricey.
It was fabulous! Sent us dessert to the table ..... complimentary!
Warm, welcoming and lots of fun. Can’t beat the welcome from Johnny the maitre d’ and lots of fun looking at famous photo decor. Amber, working at the bar, is just great. Food was delicious, wine list has some great values, and service was attentive without being intrusive. Will definitely go back.
We weren’t sat until 20 min past our reservation time, but once sat we had great service.
Excellent food, excellent service!!!!!!
My only criticism is that we requested the front room and we were seated in the very back!!!!! We were NOT happy about that. Requests that have been made several weeks ahead should be honored.
Amazing food, amazing service, overall a great restaurant.
Love it. I will say if there could be something done for better noise level you would have a 10 plus!
It’s like stepping into a mid town manhattan restaurant on a side street in Hollywood. That said past the nostalgia (I grew up in NYC) it was disappointing
Had a nice front round table in the bar and the waiter showed up promptly to take drink orders etc. took a while to get bit we were busy taking about the day.
Ordered appetizers to start but when arrived half were cold (calamari) which was just ok. Baked clams 6 small over breaded and bland and 2 giant meatballs that were passable
Waiter started getting busy and all be disappeared but flagged him down to order entrees
Husband had penne alla vodka - sloppy oversized plate which was void of flavor. Daughter had linguine with clams - again large portion barely any clams in shell and no presentation just faintly seasoned I had the veal Marsala large portion of uninviting plate with a strong flavor of the wine not properly cooked off
It was a birthday so ordered a slice of cake with the waiter dropping it in the middle of the table with one candle and he ran off again. No forks etc
Overall mediocre food at best poor to no service can’t make up for the charming atmosphere
Advise - go for drinks at the bar and leave it at that!
Tammy and Jonathan are the best!!! gracious, hospitable and made for great fun...I even had a chance to meet the team in the kitchen and I have just finished reading the Rao's book. Thank you again and I look forward to visiting again soon.
Fabulous old school Italian!
Great time at Rao’s. Such friendly staff and food was delightful Fun Hollywood night ✅✅💯💯
Professional servers and great food.............never disappoints!
Best value for money in town. Wonderful ambience, great food and a waiter that made great suggestions about food, size of servings and wine.
Manager offered giant serving of grappa and then threw in a tasting of a vintage choice.
Giant portions of pasta, very nice cesars salad, and wonderful cheese cake.
I have been trying for years to get a booking .
I’ve always wanted to eat at Rao’s, given its fame. It was mediocre; mushy meatballs, bland chicken and rather good risotto. The gelato was dreadful; icy and not at all smooth. All this would be fine, for Buca di Beppo prices. Instead it was Buca quality food for a steep price; well over $200 for two adults and a child.
Great food! The service was perfect—really great waiters, manager and hostess. This is my new favorite restaurant! I can’t wait to go back.
Vacation in LA
We had a wonderful table by the fire... our waiter was very helpful with ordering. The food was delicious and abundant.
The food was as good as any good Southern Italian restaurant. However, the service was amazing!
One caveat.... when making my OpenTable reservation, I requested an indoor table. That request doesn't show up on the restaurant reservations!
We were seated on the patio, but after turning off the heater, which was blasting hot, it turned out to be a better place to sit. It was much quieter.
Rao's Hollywood is one of our favorite restaurants in the world. We love the ambiance, the service and especially the food. In California it is not easy to find this quality of Italian food since my mother stopped cooking.
Went for the meatballs, stayed for the cheesecake! Everything in between was great, too. The cheesecake is to die for...honestly, the best I’ve ever had by far. The carbonara was executed to perfection. My family and I loved every bite. Will definitely go back here again!
Cozy, cute, great food, best staff.
Great service from beautifully diverse staff... good conversation at our table as well. Thoroughly enjoyed my time at Rao’s... be back soon.
Dinner was awesome and the service was great.
Fantastic experience! It very much felt like a personal 1950s rat pack experienceI highly recommend this restaurant for anyone traveling to Los Angeles that wants a unique experience!!!!!!!
Great food and service in a comfortable and beautiful setting.
