Thank goodness! Finding authentic sukiyaki anyplace in the US is a challenge, but when they brought out the raw egg we knew we were in good hands. This was as good as any we've found, and clearly is a result of having a Japanese parent company. Service was very attentive and there was a good selection of reasonably-priced sake. We look forward to retuning for other (expectedly authentic) Japanese dishes.
I made my reservation for 7pm and got there a couple of minutes after. The hostess station was poorly located right at the door so I stepped to the side and waited for the hostess to show up. During the waiting, three more parties arrived and piled at the entrance. The hostess then came and went to seat one other party that came before me. She came back and said that she would be with everyone and left again. She returned at a quarter after 7pm. She did not asked to see who was next and just proceeded to help the first party waiting at the entrance, so I had to say that I was next, and I was standing to the side because I did not want to obstruct the entrance/exit. We were finally taken to our seat, but the hostess was unsure if the seat was available for my party or not and asked us to wait while she checked. She returned after a couple of minutes and told us it's OK for us to remain there. It is now about 25 minutes into the hour and the waitress finally came by and brought us water after taking our appertizer order. It was without the lemon, opposite of what we asked for. We took another 5 minutes to order because we haven't been to the new location since RanGetsu closed down at I-Drive and moved to Lake Lily. The food finally came out 10/15 minutes till 8pm. We were too discontent and frustrated to enjoy the above average food.
Soon after it first opened up, I used to go to Rangetsu every Friday after work for an excellent happy hour in an impressively chic and unique bar atmosphere. I never had any complaints (partly because I rarely complain.) I went last Saturday night with two of my girlfriends, telling them how fantastic the place is - and it was the worst dining experience we've had in...almost ever. It wasn't very busy at all and we had a reservation for the regular dining room (not cocktail). The food was excellent, so I gave that 5 stars. If I could have given negative stars for service, I would have. The server was extremely off-putting - I've never had a server manage to be so rude while saying so little. She never greeted us, never brought us water, only brought 2 of our 3 cocktails, never brought us our appetizers, condiments, refills, or check (among other things). After waiting a remarkable amount of time for each, we finally had to ask the kitchen runner for any of those things. All of our appetizers came out after our sushi rolls, One of the apps we ended up sending back because we received it as we were receiving our check (which she didn't bring, even though it had been sitting on the bar for over 20 minutes. We had to go pick it up ourselves.) The other servers around us looked like they were doing a great job - just not ours. She was probably in her late 40s, but I would honestly guess she'd never served a table before. The manager made eye contact with everyone at our table multiple times as he was standing a few feet away keeping an eye on the dining room, and never once came over, even though it was painfully obvious that we were having issues. Again, the food is great, and I have a soft spot in my heart for this place, but I can only assume they changed management since the last time I had gone there. We were there for over 2 hours for a simple sushi dinner. When we left, I still hadn't gotten the drink menu I'd asked for in the beginning.
Open table was great to rsvp but other than that the service and food was worth the headaches. Our friends sat at the bar for 10 minutes before even being greeted, finally ordered their drinks then proceeded to be sat. Server never came by to offer drinks or apps. As I walked in looking for the rest of my party the hostess said something along the lines of, "what do you want"? Really, that's not client service. We were never offered or told what the special was, we went online for that. About 4/10 of our orders were mixed up and it wasn't busy at all. Another hostess made a rude comment to the table. I too was a server at two different establiments and I would have never said such a thing. I didn't say anything because I didn't want to be labeled or stereotyped and or have our food tampered with, therefore; I'm venting now. I wouldn't go back or recommend this place. That's it!
First impression was poor when greeted by the I'd-rather-be-anywhere-but-here hostess. I guess it was too much to expect a smile or personality. Then our server came. I think they were trained at the same restaurant school. She looked unhappy too! Fortunately as the night wore on our server found a little personality. Sushi was really good, chicken & noodle entree was ok. Raspberry martini wasn't all that great. If we go back I would hope for friendlier staff and will only order the sushi. The restaurant inside is really nice.
We were at restaurant for over 2 hours for complete dining experience. Every part of dining took too long, i.e. Appetizer, entree, dessert, and check. 😏 I dont have 2 hours to spend at a restaurant. However, the food was good.
Staff was very friendly and courteous. Arrived early and was seated right away. However we waited for 45 min before our food arrived and it was lukewarm. We didn't bother to send it back because of the duration it took to get the food so we ate our food and left disappointed.
A little pricey, but food was so good and our server was outstanding so it made it worth the price. Neat outdoor seating and will probably be our new Christmas Eve tradition.
The seaweed salad and appetizers are amazing! I didn't care for the main course. If I were to go back I would only go to bar area for salad, appetizers and drinks. Overall wasn't impressed!
This was my first trip to this restaurant.. I did not know what to expect. The food and atmosphere was fantastic. The prices were surprisingly affordable.
Overpriced. Disappointing food. Sea bass came with a square of scalloped potato casserole. Really? At a Japanese restaurant? Glaze tasted like it had Kraft mac-n-cheese powder. No kidding. Volcano roll sloppy and oversauced. French bread crostini appetizer on the menu. Again, a Japanese restaurant... Won't eat there again.
Took wife and parents out for dinner.only my wife likes sushi but they had something for everyone.great menu items.food tasted incredible.drinks were really good.and the service was top notch. Our server was Raj and he was excellent!
Foot was very good. Free valet parking. Service was good.
The quality of the sushi and robata was excellent. Server was knowledgable about the fish. The weather was perfect for dining outside on the patio.
My husband and I tried them for the first time and weren't impressed. Whatever we ordered was cooked at the table by us. Everything took to long and they ran out of the appetizer my husband ordered. We won't be back.
The food was excellent, however, our service left a little to be desired.
I must say that the food is fantastic- every course was delicious. This night the fire alarm went off for about 30 minutes. Ok. So we go outside to wait. Upon returning the staff did not know what to do or say. Example: Asked for an extra glass of wine and was told that glasses had to be washed. What. 15 minutes for the glass. It was an alarm only and the bar and kitchen was operating. Thank goodness the food is good.
We love the food and the mood here. We have only had sushi here but all the food looks great as it comes out. There is a great saki selection also.
RanGetsu was a very pleasant experience. We will definitely be back. It has the feel of a neighborhood gem and upscale restaurant all in one. It's the kind of place that you could hang out with your friends, alone or with that significant other. The decor reminds me of those ritzy New York restaurants. It exceeded my expectations.
Only thing that bothered me was that we made reservations and got there on time and still had to wait for a table. Other than that it's beautiful inside and the food and drinks are delicious and superb, hands down with no objections from us. You need to go and try this place at least once and see for yourself.
Although the food / ambiance and wine were great, the reason this will be a repeat location is because of the service. Sally was great!! Knowledgeable, friendly and had great suggestions.
Our waitress was very attentive to our needs and was happy to make our visit pleasurable.
The food that we ordered (apps) were outstanding. Especially the Bread Pudding thing.

First, let me say we've been to this location 4 times, and to the old location on IDrive countless times since 1993. It’s been our go to for special occasions. This visit was disappointing. I made a reservation and told them in advance it was a birthday. The restaurant offers birthday bentu box for free so asked it we could have credit for it, as we always get sukiyaki. They said no. No problem, I understand. They had a great special on sukiyaki for $30 pp including appetizer and dessert, which is an excellent deal. However, they never acknowledged the b’day. Not at all!
My son and family arrived a few minutes before me and were seated. They immediately ordered an appetizer for the 2 year old so. It never came. We ordered rolls, appetizers, sukiyaki, drinks and asked where the appetizer was for the baby. The server had forgotten. 45 minutes and a fussy kid later it arrived.
The server was new. He was pleasant but the service was spotty.
We've had sukiyaki many times and knew how to do it ourselves, but he wanted to do it for us. He didn't know what the fat was for (seasoning the pan), didn't know when to add the noodles and vegetables and meat to time it properly, and didn't serve the rice until we asked for it, which was a good 10 minutes after he was throwing cooked meat into the egg. And he must have picked up a vegetable platter to serve 2 people. Normally we have tons of veggies, but this time it was sparse to say the least. No problem. We had appetizers and extra sushi rolls, so we were full.
Not once was water refilled, unless we signaled and asked for it. After the server "cooked", we were left on our own.
We spent $200 for 4 of us, which was expected. However, the experience didn't match the price, or what we have been used to in the past.
We live an hour away, so Rangetsu is a special occasion. Will think twice next time.
We went to Rangetsu with some friends to celebrate our anniversary. They were very accommodating with the group size we had. John our server was great! He was very personable and helpful! We will be going back often!
The service was superb, the atmosphere was great, and the food was unbeatable.
The price was more than reasonable and completely worth it.
Everything about our dining experience at Rangetsu was superb. We were seated promptly and were given the option of a table or booth. The service was efficient without feeling rushed. The food was excellent. We will be returning soon.

The place was casual but trying hard to be trendy. The atmosphere was that of a fast food place. The food was edible andthe service was ok. They took a while to take the order and bring the drinks and food. They ran out of mint for my drink and didn't have two of the desserts that I had tried to order. It was overall a disappointing experience. Will not be going back.
I went to RG to celebrate my birthday. I was rather put off when I asked for the free bento box that they advertised on the table for those celebrating birthdays only to be turned down b/c it was two days before my birthday instead of the day itself. Why even advertise this kind of special if you are going to be cheap about it? More importantly, I also noticed the the food overall has declined in quality. I noticed the original owner no longer seems to be managing, and what used to be a restaurant that tastes really authentic has now become just another average Japanese restaurant.
Just beyond meeting our expectations. My husband and I are always excited to eat here. Its amazing. The food is always perfect. The service impeccable. Friendly staff and perfect ambiance. I can't gush enough!! I can't to go back!! Make sure to try the sparkling momo saki cocktail!!
I enjoyed this very very much. My parents and I thought we would go just to try something new and it turned out to be amazing. The service was fast and the food was not only tasty but beautifully presented. The restraunt is set up so nicely i didn't feel smooched at all. There was actually a lot of space. I have no complaints and i would definatly suggest giving this wonderful restraunt a try if you haven't already. The only warning i have is a warning that any restraunt needs. The portion sizes are too big.
The ultimate tuna roll was delicious !! But the rangetsu roll the most expensive roll $25 tasted like a publix roll with tough lobster on it .. That bummed me out 😔.
The restaurant ambience is depressing, too dark and not cozy or inviting. The service was very slow, one hour to get our food, even though restaurant was half full. The food was not to our satisfaction at all. The bulgogi looked old and was dry. The teriyaki chicken was colorless with no grill marks, very uninviting and tasted like a previously frozen piece of artificial chicken. The only thing that was good was the "tasty shrimps" and the sushi boat.
It was my daughters 21st birthday so the manager did not charge for her meal, that was not important to us as much as the service or the quality of the food. We expected the experience as good as the old Rangetsu on International drive, we went there many times until they closed. We will not go to Rangetsu at Winter Park again.

Food was very good. Service was a little slow since it was a Tuesday night and few tables, but overall it was delcious and I would go back!

Ran Getsu exceeded at reinventing itself as a friendly, neighborhood gem in Maitland, Florida. Locals may find that they prefer it much more as it is less of a tourist spot. While it's new location is somewhat more understated in size, it has managed to reinvent itself in a friendly, unpretentious environment that focuses on authentic renditions of America's sushi favorites and some traditional Japanese delicacies. One of the few places one can go in Central Florida to get an authentic, Japanese-owned meal. The sushi was fresh and the presentation was excellent. Service was good and ambience was exceptional.
Nice atmosphere. Sushi was excellent. Service was slow, but we were in no hurry. Food was a little pricey. Overall, we liked it a lot and we will go back.
We lived in Orlando 20 years ago and loved going to Rangetsu, our favorite spot. Visit yesterday at new location, basically a strip mall attached to a condo development. No character inside or out. Feels like they sold out 3 years ago. Told older asian man in tie that we loved this place long ago. After sitting, three different waiters and older asian man (GM?) walked by us multiple times with no hint of assistance. Get a bottle of sake, and some overcooked, overspiced edamame (and we love spice). Told a different waiter that finally stopped to pick up the half eaten food. Never got the sushi we ordered 25 minutes earlier, while others around us did. Terrible place, no care, typical orlando tourist trap now. WHAT A SHAME, this place was an institution.
