We sadly had to say goodbye to one of our favorite neighborhood spots. They did not disappoint on their farewell eve. I look forward to seeing what they come up with next...
So sad to hear this place is closing--went for the first time for a fancy dinner date, and had phenomenal food, drinks and dessert. Even the patrons sitting next to us were nice.
We have loved this place since first discovering it from someone we knew who worked there. We will miss this place, so.
We visit San Francisco every year at Christmas time. Our first restaurant visit is ALWAYS Range.
I'm sad to say that last Thursday nights visit will be our last - Range is closing their doors at the end of this month. ☹️
If you have an opportunity to visit before they close, and can get a reservation, I highly recommend it.
Feeling badly that this was our last meal at Range. Always had great food and even our most picky friends found something to eat. We hope they return and soon
By charging a la cart for cocktails, that is for liquor and ingredients separately, it was a not transparent way of over charging. The portions of meats were smaller, however very good. The service would be improved by sharing the prices in a more transparent mode to customers.
Very trendy. Well trained staff. Vegetables were disappointing but everything else was excellent.
An amazing place to dine. Very romantic and the food and drink is out of this world.
Range is okay. The coffee pork was not good at all and mine even had string in the pork itself...obviously, the kitchen was in a rush so was careless.
The bread and cultured butter was no better tasting nor unique, but you have to pay for it here.
I would not recommend.
Range is closing at the end of December. The menu is filled with their greatest hits: chicken liver mousse, goat cheese and sorrel stuffed pasta in lime butter sauce, coffee rubbed pork shoulder. Execution of the dishes was pretty good. Our server was usually nowhere to be found and the gaps between courses were the longest ever experienced there. What in the past would have been a 2 hour meal stretched to over 3 hours.
We will miss you, Range! Looking forward to the next chapter.
Tried Range for a first date and was not disappointed. The hostess offered us a table that was overcrowded by the group next to us, but quickly realized this and gave us a larger, more private table. The food is damn good.
Amazing as always! These guys always look after us so that's why we keep going back several times per year. You have to try the bourbon glazed pork ribs appetiser and the Coffee-rubbed Pork for Entree. Awesome!
This is such a sleek space. The décor is beautiful, the staff is attentive, and the meal was wonderful. Cocktails: third rail, and Hemingway daiquiri, both so good. Apps: sourdough with cultured butter, and the lemon/goat cheese/sorrel pasta. . . Again, impressed. Entrées: hangar steak, just okay, but the halibut cauliflower chowder had great flavor and was high end comfort food on a cold fall night.
It was great! I tried the chowder, it was delicious!
From the moment we sat down, we were rushed to make decisions. We kept saying we needed more time, but the waitress wouldn't stop coming back every minute. Eventually, we just quickly picked something so our waitress would leave us alone, but then we had to deal with multiple servers asking to take our plates away when they were still half covered in food. Being rushed all evening made for a stressful dining experience.
Good food, but very overpriced (even by San Francisco standards). The noise level is too loud. We were there for our anniversary and had we known that it was going to be loud, might have gone somewhere else.
Our waitress was extremely attentive and All 4 guests loved their meals. The coffee-rubbed pork was awesome. A great night.
3rd time visit. The food was excellent. However the service was abhorrent. The waiter was inattentive and when he showed up, he was awkward and always an interruption. He offered drinks once. He never offered wine or coffee after dinner. It was impossibly and painfully noisy - essentially impossible for conversation. After dessert, we never saw our waiter again. Then while we were trying to have after dinner conversation above the horrible noise, the obnoxious hostess came to our table and took 2 of our 4 water glasses - no interest in if we had any other requests, then 5 minutes later she came back, visibly perturbed that we were still there and then took our remaining water glasses. An obvious invitation for us to leave. So rude. We would have been happy to buy a bottle of wine or would have positively responded to a nice urge that they needed the table and would we mind moving our conversation to the bar... she and by default the restaurant were rude. Give me a break. I spent $400 including a 25% tip. Would appreciate more respect. Will not be returning to this restaurant ever and look forward to when they quickly go out of business. Guess this service explains why this was THE ONLY restaurant in SF with an available last minute reservation.
I love this place. Nice atmosphere, great food, wine, cocktails. Attentive service, very nice, low key server. The food is delicious with perfect portion sizes. Ready to go back.
Vodka martini had too much vermut in it. Appetizer of goat cheese stuffed pasta tasted too much of vinegar from the artichokes . Chicken liver pate was good as well as the corn chowder with fish but both dishes lack character. Corn fritters were crispy but the avocado relish that came along gas bland. Overall I was not impressed by any dish.
Our 1st time and so loud we asked for quieter table and they were quick to accommodate us. 20s 30s crowd lively and noisy. We really enjoyed our food and the service was very good. Fresh ingredients. Prefer a quieter setting but very good creative menu
Such fabulous food and incredible cocktails. Anytime I am in the city, I make a point of coming to Range for dinner or at least a cocktail and appetizer. They never disappoint.
A great dining experience, the staff was knowledgeable, friendly kept pace with our tables needs. The food all round was excellent, but the corn chowder with halibut was over the top. A fun evening.
Range consistently gives a great dining experience. On a Sunday dinner, everything was excellent. One of the best King Salmons i had for a long time. Good service as well. Highly recommended for special occasions.
Really interesting and tasty food and drinks. A bit high priced, but not out of the ordinary for food this good.
A little noisy for a date and I didn't see enough space for a special occasion or a big party? That said the food is incredible and very unique but homey and delicious at the same time the service is impeccable we were seated in one of the seats in the walkway across from the kitchen not great for atmosphere but otherwise foodies get your napkins out and get ready to chow down!
Over rated and over priced restaurant living off its reputation.
Not as good as the 1st time, as I remember. The drinks were excellent. The food ok.
Love this place! Came with a table of 7. Our server was so nice as give us separate bills!! That's service
The food was under-whelming and we had a long wait for our table even though we made a reservation. They manager was kind and comped us drinks and an appetizer, but we felt the food was so-so.
Really disappointed. Been here many times over the years but the food was not good. Drinks good. Over priced.
One of my favorite restaurants, everything was amazing, I wish I could have had everything on the menu!
As we're driving (by UBER) to RANGE the Mission district is looking quite
interesting. . . . .not so inviting. THEN we pulled up to RANGE and now it's looking
even less inviting. However, once inside the decor, size, hospitality, food and service
are top-notch.
The chicken, corn chowder, tomato soup and chicken liver mousse were all outstanding.
I ordered a glass of Rose wine, but wasn't so crazy for it. I really wanted to change it, but
did not see our server until I was just about finished with it. She asked how it was; I said
it was certainly drink-able, but not to my taste. She did not put it on our bill. Thank you !!
Noise level made it difficult to hear the person across the table. Service was terrible! Had to ask for water 4 times, which came when the dessert arrived. Two people received their meal and we had to wait for the other three - don't think this meets the standards of what we expected from this restaurant. Two asked for their sliced steaks to be medium rare and they were served well done and the meat was tough. We did speak up about the service and the well done meat and one entree was remove from the bill and we were given two desserts on the house. I was very disappointed with the Range.
Food was excellent - idem for wine but the noise in the back was so loud it was difficult to understand each other. When I have dinner I like more quiet places - this can probably be achieved with some added noise reducing materials.
Overall under-impressed.
The food is fine, the wines we had from the open wine list (a Californian Sauvignon Blanc and a Grenache/Syrah from France) were not great, but OK. The hanger steak came with Chanterelles instead of Morels without explanation, which I think is not quite OK (both for the difference in taste and price). The cocktails are nice.
This was an OK dining experience, with good service, but definitely not worth the price. Mains are about $30, some substantially above. There's much better dining in the mission compared to that.
Good food and service in an energetic neighborhood. Only quibble I have is the wine by glass selection could have offered more choices.
High on food, low on ambience, but cozy as it fills up
nice food and wine list but we had a few hick-ups with the order as the appetizers arrived while we were still waiting for our pre-food cocktails. The waiter apologized and took the drinks off the bill. Still, the dinner wasn't quite the same. Nonetheless, I would give Range another go.
