Probably the best restaurant I've ever been to - and I've been to a number of places in and around the Baltimore-DC Metro region. Range is staffed by people devoted to the spirit of Mid-Atlantic regional cuisine, and it shows: from the cheese board from all local Maryland farms (even the cheese on the salad is local!) to the seafood (not just Chesapeake oysters, but also rockfish! done RIGHT!)

Food was all spectacular: the right blend of elegant and homey to make you feel like you had an upscale but satisfying meal. The bread basket was just right for two, with melt-in-your mouth cheddar biscuits and housemade spreads, and the entrees were generously sized - no two-bite portions here! The server was polite, charming, and attentive without constant hovering.

It's a little pricey, but on par with what I'd expect for a restaurant of this quality, and you definitely get plenty of value for it - we ordered a little of everything off the menu (sides, apps, entree, dessert) and the final bill was extremely reasonable for what we got. I've paid more for less quality food at upscale chain restaurants. Will definitely be going back the next time I'm in DC!

Range was not good, not horrible, just not good. We went for brunch. The server did not know the answers to any of our questions, and after several questions, he admitted that he was there temporarily (which is fine, but I still think he should have known about the menu). Second, the food was not great. There was nothing, apart from the cheddar biscuits, that was any good. The "breakfast potatoes" were inedible, and it is truly hard to mess up potatoes. The menu did not specify that any of the brunch entrees came with any sides, so we ordered several bacon and breakfast potatoes sides. When our entrees came, they all came with breakfast potatoes! So not only were the potatoes not edible, but we now had 8 orders of them. Would have been nice to know... I don't think I will be going back to Range because there are so many other places to go where the food is good and the waiters know about the menu.

We were traveling from the West Coast and excited to eat at one of Bryan Voltaggio’s restaurants. To say we were disappointed after this experience would be an understatement. Overall the food was very good, bordering on excellent, but the service and operation of the restaurant left a lot to be desired. For example when my wife asked how was their medium rare cooked the server responded with “good”instead of describing the color of the meat cooked to that level. Another example, the server had to come back to the table several times to clarify the wine we ordered. Also they didn’t give my wife a steak knife for her steak. We also felt very rushed by the fact he asked us if we wanted to order dessert and we weren’t even finished with our main course. There was just an odd vibe to the place as though they were about to go out of business. From the hostess at the front, to the manager and our server their was a complete lack of enthusiasm that made the night very uncomfortable. I didn’t want to believe the other negative reviews but unfortunately based on my experience they appear to be accurate.

The hostess wouldn’t seat my wife because I hadn’t arrived yet (metro problems). The place was empty, so it wasn’t like there was a line to get in. Not only is that rude to make her wait, the restaurant probably lost out on an extra glass of wine too, since she probably would’ve had one while I was on my way and then another during dinner. the server was actually very nice, friendly, and attentive, so credit due. Wife’s food was great (scallops), but I ordered the steak med rare and it came out charred and almost we’ll done. Not ok for $25. I said something and they happily replaced it and were apologetic. Cheddar biscuits were awesome; oysters were good although no one could describe them to us. Ambiance is basically the standard hotel restaurant. They don’t tel you it’s a hotel restaurant on the website. For a big name like voltaggio, I expected a little bit more.

Worst experience dining out, EVER!! Will never come here again. The meal was limited to a prix fixe set menu, presumably to try to streamline service for a busy Valentine’s Day. Waited more than 1/2 hour for our waiter to come to the table, they brought the wrong courses in the wrong order multiple times, they brought the wrong main course to me and it took another 20 minutes to bring the right one, so my husband had already finished eating. The food was cold, unappealing, not tasty, and we finally left more than two hours later, before getting our dessert) when the waiter said he had not even put in our dessert orders yet ( part of the set menu). All of the couples in our section of the restaurant had the same experience and several also left without receiving their full meal. We and several others asked to see manager multiple times, but the manager did not come until we were already leaving. Extremely disappointed with our Valentine’s Day dinner.

The first course was delivered to the table next to us, the 2nd course was very delayed, the 3rd course was delivered prior to our finishing the 2nd course and the dessert was delivered at an appropriate time. The steak I ordered rare was medium. The other dishes were fine.

Tried brunch at Range because my friend lives nearby. I had been here for dunner a year ago and had a great experhence. Sunday brunch, however, is an overpriced afterthought for Range. My frittata was good, nothing amazing, the hash browns were unappetizingly blackened, and were cold, but the scones were delicious. Service was not up to quality. We were given menus but had to call the server over to explain why we got a restaurant week menu (wasn't that over 2 weeks ago?) and to ask the a la carte prices. Once we ordered, it seemed to take a long time to get a regular and a decaf coffee. Coffee and water refreshes required flagging down staff, repeatedly. There was neither salt nor pepper on the table, and that, too, required flagging down staff. Flagging down staff became such a theme that my friend and I actually started discussing it and envisioned ways in which brunch could be a much better experience at this trendy spot. I know they can do better because when I went to dinner there, the service and the food were high quality.

Nearly every aspect of service was atrocious. Stood around at host stand being ignored, then was told I was first from group to arrive and sent to bar, only to learn after standing there for 5 minutes that my family had been previously seated. Wait staff took extended period to bring water or check on us. Orders seemingly disappeared into a void and the food took forever without explanation. The food itself was fair, not worth returning for and certainly not worth the wait. The decor is lovely but the restaurant is incredibly loud and feels a bit like you are sitting in the middle of a mall food court, ad it is wide open to the mall. I have no idea why anyone would choose to eat there. And I would be ashamed to run it or own it.

Saturday night. The service was the worst I and my friends have experienced in a long time at a restaurant. First there was no server for at least 20 minutes. After we complained - they sent someone who apologized for the the delayed server - and she attempted to take our drink and appetizer order. Those were forgotten - and only after we complained again did another server come over and take our order again. The drinks showed up - but the oyster appetizer didn't - until we complained again. The manager came over - and simply said it was a saturday night - except the place was half empty. After we ordered our main course and salads - they showed up with the main course (which also took too much time) - but forgot the salads, which was supposed to come before the entrees.

The food was delicious. They gave us 20% off our tab - but it is clear this place - which was supposed to be Brian Voltaggio's grand restaurant in DC - is failing and not long for this world.

My boss and I chose Range to try as we caught up while she was in town. The restaurant is large and has many different areas and tables for many different needs of guests (date night vs business dinner). The decor was nicely designed and and modern. For a Thursday night it seemed very slow for a well known DC restaurant. Decent wine list with lots to choose from and the manager/sommelier was quick to come over and help. Service was quick but felt a little overbearing which may have been a side effect of it being slow. It was not the professional service I expected from the owner or of a restaurant that is as well know as Range. Food was presented beautifully but felt it left much to be desired. I had the bistro streak which was cold and lacked much flavor. There was supposed to be a green peppercorn sauce which was completely dried to the bottom of the plate and could not be used or tasted with the dish.

Overall an ok experience but service and food quality would make me think twice about venturing all the way to Friendship Heights for this restaurant.

Restaurant was only serving limited restaurant week menu, which was not advertised on the website - we didn’t find out until we arrived. There also appeared to be a staff shortage in the kitchen, so our food was incredibly delayed. Food was decent, but definitely not planning to return after that experience .

The food was painfully slow. The menu was changed to a pre-fixe menu, which should have allowed for quicker service. First course (salad) was about 15 minutes from ordering. Second course (flatbread) was about 50 minutes! Main course (steak) has simple sauce and starch took 40 minutes from the second course. Even dessert took 25 minutes from ordering. The server was upset and frustrated. The manager was some-what hospitable. This meal should have taken no longer than one hour from start to finish. Not the two and a half hours that we painfully had to sit through. We watch other parties around walkout. The disappointment was the food was really good

I have never being disappointed at Range during past visits. This time, however, the menu for "restaurant week" was nothing to write home about. Very average. In addition, there were practically no other options on the menu. Very disappointing experience.
