Range Lounge & Grill at Predator Ridge Resort Ratings and Reviews
The young woman who seated us wanted to put us at a table we didn't want, for some reason. Even though there were window table available, which I wanted. I asked if people could reserve specific tables and she said they couldn't. So then, of course, there was no reason not to seat our family at the window table we wanted (since the tables were set for the same number of people). This was an unfortunate beginning, but after that, everything was excellent and we had a lovely time! It's expensive, but it's become a special once-a-year Christmas tradition for us.
The food was amazing. The service I'd describe as either absent minded or indifferent. It took a while for her to come over, then a drink was missed and an incorrect drink was brought (I ordered a Shiraz and was brought a syrah). We then basically didn't see her again until we were done eating, no check back. I could understand this if it was busy but we were one of maybe 3 tables in the whole restaurant. On the plus side she didn't charge us for desert but I have the distinct feeling she just forgot to add it to the bill.
We really enjoyed the meal at The Range Lounge & Grill and our server was lovely. I had e-mailed ahead of time that it was my husband's 60th Birthday so could we have a small chocolate dessert with a candle. When we arrived, I told our server that we were celebrating a birthday also. We didn't receive the dessert--and she didn't seem to pick up on it that it was a special evening for us.
I also called ahead and asked for a bottle of Pinot Gris to be put in our room for our arrival. I left a message on the answering machine as nobody picked up at the restaurant. This did not happen either. I was quite disappointed since I was hoping to make this a special weekend for my husband.
We've been coming here annually for 15+ years for the golf but the food has been hit and miss at dinner. Locals highly recommended the short ribs at $19 so 3 of the 4 of us ordered those. Except they were $39 at dinner ($19 is the bar price not the dining room). We ordered them anyway because we were told they were excellent. Wrong. The portion was ridiculously small. The meat was dry and the polenta was a piece the size of 3 french fries tied together and deep fried. We were all disappointed. On top of that our server thought mightly highly of herself and she was doing us a favour by giving us mediocre service. When we got the bill we asked her to split it down the middle and she couldn't do the math. She told us to do it ourselves so I told her to get her phone and do it herself, which she did begrudgingly. Shelley, one of the other servers in the morning and at lunch, on the other hand, is phenomenal! Too bad all of the servers can't be like her.
For the price we paid and the service we got it's better to go up to Sparkling Hill for dinner. Very sad because we love the golf and the resort so much.
Booked table, we were put on a table which was in an open air with plastic sides, cold. Starter came out which was ok and then while eating starter the mains came out, waitress saw we were still eating and rushed back to kitchen which was put back under hot plate, as my dish was a Caesar salad the lettuce was limp.
My husband and I were at Sparkling Hill for a quick getaway night and we had heard many good things about the food at Predator Ridge so we thought we would give it a try. We we not disappointed, from drinks to appetizers to mains and dessert everything was spectacular and the service was fantastic as well! I look forward to heading back and would recommend It to anyone!
We made a reservation. We arrived on time. The place was 20% occupied, but we were seated in the least desirable table in the establishment, "out in the open", with no view. Both our chairs were filthy (bread crumbs, and a big wine stain). Steppenwolf was playing loudly ("get your motor running"). When that finished, Ted Nugent (Cat Scratch Fever) began, blaring in the background. My wife and I couldn't stomach the prospect of spending $35 on entrees, and left. Management needs some "secret diner" traffic.
Service was excellent - we were seated in porch area but were able to move to patio so servers were changed but both young ladies were outstanding! Despite the smoke from the fires the patio was great and will come back for sure when the air clears! Nice dining option - little pricey but good.
I love this restaurant! We had such a wonderful experience as guests of Sparkling Hill Resort wanting to eat off property. We were pleased from the van transportation to and from the resort and restaurant, to the great music played in the entranceway outside, to the dining experience.
The staff were attentive and went above and beyond. Aaron (I believe the manager) literally went to the convenience store for me to get Q-tips for my eye, which had something in it. Next time we are traveling to Vernon, we will be staying at Predator Ridge if this is how the property takes care of their customers. Food was excellent. Our waitress was knowledgeable about the wine list. Enjoyed the wine from local vineyards and relaxed by the fire pit after dinner with our drinks. Ambience-wise, enjoyed watching players on the golf course and looking out into the hills.
We also had a great lunch that day at the cafe across the way. Fabulous pizza.
Food was very good and for the most part delivered in a timely manner but overall service was inconsistent. Long time for drinks to arrive. Quick appetizers and prompt main course. Other service like water refills or cutlery replacement was nonexistent. Unfortunately must have been the same night as a large tournament because noise level was such that we couldn't hold a conversation at our table without yelling. Wait staff seemed to be doing a reasonable job catering to the two large groups in attendance but not as well with the numerous tables of four also paying the same prices
The Range serves an excellent weekend buffet brunch, and this was our second visit. Buffet was comprehensive, and did not disappoint. However, the service did. We were a party of 5, and on our arrival we asked for the deck with its wonderful view over the Predator Ridge Championship Golf Course. We were told that there was no table available for 5, as reservations did not apply to the deck. We were seated inside, but I noted 2 tables on the deck that could have been placed together, and asked the hostess. She told us they could not do that.
We then waited about 10 minutes before a server took note of us and came to take orders for coffee and beverages. In the interim there were intrigues amongst the server staff which suggested they were short of staff. Once our server came, she confirmed that a server had not shown up that morning. In taking our orders, only coffee, tea and water were offered, and I had to enquire if the would serve Mimosa cocktails, which (of course) they could).
At the buffet table, the server making omelets and carving the baron of beef was downright grumpy. I heard about how the kitchen had ruined her whole day by over-cooking the beef, because all their thermometers had broker. Beef was well down, but still tender and tasty (although I do prefer medium-rare).
My conclusion was that management failed to step up to the challenge of an absent server, and there was a general lack of discipline to put the best on a challenging (but probably not that uncommon) situation. I suspect our request for the deck could have been accommodated by a simple willingness to please, but that was not forthcoming when short of staff.
We couldn't wait to go and sample the halibut and we're so glad that the fish itself was well cooked but the flavour was bland. The first clue should have been that it was dressed with a carrot/lobster purée, it was as boring as carrot baby food and no salt or pepper were on the table. Service was ridiculously slow. We started with a cocktail and then ordered dinner. 45 minutes later still no dinner so we asked for a wine menu. 20 minutes later she brings the wine menu. Finally she came back and we ordered wine to have with dinner. Dinner finally came but where is the wine? As we are all taking our last bites of dinner the wine apperars. The Range is understaffed and no-one acknowledges the long waits and slow service. Big tables of loud golfers and a few female servers swarming those tables at the expense of the rest of us. I would drive into Vernon next time and go to Intermezzo. The Range is a golf clubhouse and not much more. Very disappointing.
We went for the Sunday buffet brunch. The brunch went until noon and when we were there at 11:15 it was out of many things and they were not replenishing it. Our server was also very slow in bringing drinks and our bill. The food was quite tasty however only about 50% of items were available
Food was excellent however service was lacking. It appears the server positions have been filled by summer students with little experience. When I eat at an establishment in this price range I expect superior service. Our server was nervous, didn't know the menu thoroughly, there was missing silverware on the table, had to ask for water refills and pour our own wine. You cannot hire servers without proper training and supervision. I am comparing high end restaurants in Vancouver and you are truly lacking. Felt more like an Earl's.
The server was very nice, and very polite, but very slow. I ordered mushrooms on toasts, and mushroom soup was brought out by another staff member. It took so long for the waiter to check on us, that everyone else at the table had finished their appetizers, before I could alert the server to the mistake. He offered to bring the correct dish out right away, which was completely delicious, so not a big deal. Our entrees came very soon after which was great, but I ordered the boneless spare rib and it was as hard as a rock, I did not eat it, but no one cared to ask why I didn't eat it. My husband ordered an expensive ribeye cut and it was cut into four pieces when it arrived at the table, were they trying to hide an inferior cut of meat? It was a good steak, but we thought it was strange to present our steak in such a manner. We then ordered dessert and asked for the bill, at the same time, so that we could eat then leave. 40 minutes passed before he finally brought the bill, and several tables that asked for their bill after we asked, received there's before we did. When the bill finally came they did not remove the incorrect appetizer, at this point we were just happy to finally be leaving. I would not go back and I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone.
Unfortunately the service was poor, it was very hot, everyone but us got water without asking, we were not asked about a second beer or how we liked the food. The food was overall fair, the salad had way too much dressing and the soup while touted as homemade tasted like it was out of a can. My wife asked for a spoon to eat her soup, eventually a spoon arrived but it was encrusted with a prior day's offering, the replacement did not arrive and I went over and got one myself.
The very comfortable deck had an outstanding view of the golf course and surrounding vistas which made up for some of the food and service deficiencies.
