Rancho Capistrano Winery
The winery offers over 30 different house made wines created from grapes from some of the worlds finest wine growing regions.
family friendly, room for strollers. food was ok, menu a bit strange for a wine restaurant.
Very loud with musicians playing. Challenging to have a conversation.
I would recommend this place for the ambiance and outdoor availability. Music on the patio is mellow and folksy enough to talk and enjoy the company you are with.
The wait staff is quite young and (seemingly) inexperienced. My two dining partners were drinking different beers. When one of them asked for a refill of his Lager he was brought the IPA our other guest was drinking. One sip let him know he was served the wrong beer (the color was even off as he still has some beer left in his previous glass). He told the waiter and asked for a replacement. The waiter (again) brought an IPA. He gave up and when we left I could see the beer was untouched. I realize this is a wine venue but the staff should be made aware of all the beverages and their difference. The wines are not the best at all but the patio is the draw.
I think the brunch menu was very overpriced. All four of us did no like our food and the service was not good. Very disappointed since this was Fathers day.
Love the winery but was disappointed in the steak salad. I explained to the waitress that if they could absolutely do the steak well done I would try that salad - otherwise I would be happy with something else. She said there was no problem doing the steak well done. It came medium rare - I couldn't eat it. They took the salad off the bill but I didn't want to pay less - I wanted to be able to eat the whole salad.
I'll go back - first time I have had a problem there. It's a great place.
Great food and service. Looking forward to going again soon!
The venue has great ambiance and good service. I did get a glass of wine that seemed to be from the previous day's bottle. I went ahead and drank it, but switched to a different wine at the next round. Had beef stroganoff which was really good. My wife had the soup of the day and a salad which was good. There was love music which was very nice. Overall a good experience.
Food and wine are outstanding
I love this outdoor patio .. and the guitarist he was superb. It was just a long wait for food maybe due to Mothers Day. They need to staff up on holidays
Took my wife here for Mother's Day. The staff did a great job of keeping up with the chaos. The food was great and the atmosphere was relaxing. Good day all around. Mama and her boys were all happy. Highly recommend.
Live music was fantastic and the waitress was super nice! the patio was great for mother's day with my mom and my dog. There was a near altercation with a non friendly dog as i was walking to the tasting bar, my dog is an esa dog but when another dog is biting at the air to attempt an attack, this was very upsetting because it gives reasons for restaurants to do away with dog friendly patios. So Please Please if your dog does not like other dogs nearby or simply a pass by sniff hello DO NOT BRING HIM/HER. This ruins the mood and awesome idea of dog friendly places. If your dog can't go to the dog park don't bring him to a restaurant or atleast request the corner table of the far back end instead of the center walking area.
Great atmosphere for a Friday Happy Hour and Dinner. The service was a bit off only because of the large crowd in attendance. Great food and wine, though!!!!
Love this place
Great time but drink option not so good! Should have bloody Mary’s with brunch! My fav!!!!
Live music at lunchtime so loud that you could not have a conversation. Three requests to turn it down were ignored. Will not return.
We have eaten here several times before, the food and wine is fantastic! Unfortunately the service was beyond terrible. At 40 min we had no food and they had not taken our meal order. The apps we ordered went to another table. The server knew it was going south but for some reason had no help. The manager was no where to be seen and the food runners didn't understand the table numbers. So sad :( We will wait for new management or a change in the service to go back.
We didn’t order wine and came for a healthy lunch.
The salmon plate was bland for a $34 lunch entree
The kids chicken plate $12 was plain and what we expected but it was exactly the same as the salmon plate but just different proteins
The fried Brussels sprouts were good but $14
The sweet potato fries were fine for $8
My wife’s salad was enjoyable but nothing special. They forgot to hold the cheese so it was sent back
I think I would have been happier at half the price ($100 to feed two adults and two kids for lunch and no drinks)
The patio was nice and it was moderately busy. Everyone seemed to enjoy the food but ours was just not that great for the money.
We went with our family from out of town for a birthday. I had written this in both my reservation on opentable and we told the restaurant upon arrival. The waitress did not acknowledge this. We had asked about the beers and she didn’t know what kinds they had at the time. We ordered an appetizer that came out with the food. Additionally, when we asked for certain requests (another drink or condiments) she would forget and we had to go to the counter inside to request again. I don’t think we would go back to this restaurant as it seemed disorganized and unwelcoming.
Loved this place, it was my first time, and I loved it! Had some great wine and an appetizer. The cilantro pesto fries are amazing! I loved that wven though we were done with our food and wine they didn’t hurry us we sat and talked for a while and we requested our tab later on when we were ready! I really appreciated that. We must have gone during a not so busy time, but either way I really liked that. Must try place if you are a wine person! :)
We had Happy-hour and the wine was great! They have excellent food just need to add few more items with substance to soak up the wine like sliders - too many pizzas
We love Rancho Capistrano Winery. The food and wine incredible, the service is fantastic, and the ambience is fun and romantic. Highly recommend!!
The chicken vegetable soup was delicious!
When I asked the hostess about a catered event, she handed me a piece of ripped paper with a name and phone number of their event coordinator to call. No business card? Hmmmm?
Next time leave some for interested parties!
We ate on the patio before anyone else showed up. I had to ask to turn down the Country Western music. The table was under a heater so that was fine. The service could have been better given low occupancy while we were there, water refills, removing used dishes, ordering. My meal of the BLAT with tomato soup was good.
Great food and service ! Look forward to a return visit soon !
Our waitress Kyra was great!
10/10 all around. We love being members here!!!! atmosphere and people who work there are great!
Booked lunch after our Amtrak train was to arrive at the nearby train station. The patio was lovely, and had a large fireplace with a roaring fire. So inviting on a crisp day.
We've lived in the area a couple of years and always loved the vibe walking by so we had to try. Wine choices are excellent and the charcuterie board is one of the BEST around! Great place to unwind, drink wine by the huge fireplace and relax after a long week. Recommend fried Brussels Sprouts, Big Cheese plate Estate GSM & the Mexican coffee port!!
I took my husband here for a birthday lunch before heading to Dana Point for the night. The patio is beautiful and we really enjoyed the food and wine. Great service. Definitely will be making a trip to Rancho Capistrano Winery again.
We went for a Saturday day morning brunch. The food was fantastic. We had the french toast bites as an appetizer and mimosa flights as starters. The patio had a perfect ambiance. We are planning to go back to try the dinner menu.
Great atmosphere. Our server was friendly and knowledgeable. The lamb meatballs were delicious. Definitely heading back soon.
I went there for the 1st time with 4 friends this weekend. It was outstanding! We were there for Sunday Brunch and loved the experience. There was a great live band playing outside and the food was great. Our table had waffles, Eggs Benedict, soup and fries! I would go back in a heartbeat and look forward to my next trip there.
PS- it's right next to the San Juan Cap train station so it makes it ideal for meeting people from who might be traveling from San Diego or North Orange County
The food is consistently very good, attractively served. Good wait staff. Really nice atmosphere.
First visit to this restaurant with friends and was enjoyed by all! Lovely outdoor setting. I just wish they had a full bar.
Great location, perfect outdoor ambiance, delicious food and friendly staff
I found my new favorite Chardonnay!!! The Brussels sprouts app is to die for. I’ll definitely be coming back a lot!!
We have always enjoyed the restaurant. Sometimes we bring our dogs and they enjoy all the attention too.
