Restaurant was very nice. Seemed to be a neighborhood spot. Food was great. Our server was taken away and we were assigned someone else who was already overbooked with tables. This made for adequate service but not great.
Delicious food, great value, and really friendly staff. Great neighborhood spot for casual bar hangout or more quite meal in the dining room.
It has been very good. This night was rather off, but OK.
Always reliable and good food for good price !
Had a nice dinner with friends after an Alexandria Singers concert at the Convergence Center. It's also a convenient dinner spot before the Friday night concerts at Blessed Sacrament Church.
My family dined here for Thanksgiving dinner. The food was fantastic, very plentiful portions (they even offered additional helpings), and a great value. Wait staff were very busy but still in great spirits and friendly. No stress, no mess, no dishes to wash. This may very well be our new holiday tradition!
First time for Thanksgiving dinner and had a great experience. Wonderful server, Nicole, and food was plentiful, tasty and nicely presented. We'd tried several other restaurants for Thanksgiving in past years and Ramparts was by far the best. Will be back next year!
Food is reliably good and specials outstanding as my lamb chop special was !
Overall good food in a relaxed environment. Very good service !
Great meal! Enjoyed it!
I don't think there were enough servers, so our waiter was kind of slow. He was nice, but just didn't have much help. We had five people but he added the automatic gratuity, I'm not sure if that's because we had a table for six. We were in a rush because of trying to get to a concert, so it was a little annoying. Maybe he knew he was being slow so he added the gratuity. In any case, the food is ok but a little overpriced.
One of my favorite local restaurants and bar, we are regulars. The food is consistently good! A couple faves, the homemade potato tots and the stone steak salad!
We love going here as food is reasonable and quality really good !!
Brunch specials were limited but bigger menu was available. Crab Benedict was really delicious; plenty of crab with little filler. Others had corned beef hash and traditional benedicts. All reported good food. My only suggestion would be a little more bearnaise sauce on the crab denedist.
The food and service was good. My only feedback is that when I asked the server if I could order the loaded tater tots without bacon he abruptly, almost before I was finished asking the question, said "no". I know a lot of restaurants don't alter their menu, but it's a bar and it wasn't a complicated request to leave the bacon off.
If you like City Kitchen and TJ Stones you'll love Ramparts. The food is very similar and portions are great. They also make nice drinks to go with your meal.
The food is better than anywhere else and the price is good. The service is amazing.
A long time gem of the neighborhood, some of the best food in town, at moderate prices.
One of the best experiences we've had at Ramparts. Our waiter Billy made the entire evening a delight. He was funny and attentive. The food was delicious. I had the steak salad, my companions had wings. The pace of the meal was just perfect. Can't want to go back and ask for Billy!
Great find and the food was great and the service was great also. Would return again.
Ramparts is a staple with me. I enjoy going there because I know I will get a good meal. Thursday night is rib night special and it is worth it. The ribs slide off of the bones and a full rack, which is only $4.00 more than half a rack, provides enough meat to take home. The sides are delicious and plentiful. This time, I introduced two friends to Ramparts rib night. I know they will be back.
Excellent service, and super friendly neighborhood restaurant! The food was really good, and the wine list is impressive!
Very nice specials and we like the neighborhood feel. Staff is very attentive... We go regularly and enjoy it and know others who do too
My neighbor and I had dinner at Ramparts before attending the final concert of the season at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. The meal was great and the restaurant is close enough to park at church and walk over. Ramparts is also a good choice for brunch after Mass. It's also close to St. Clements Episcopal.
I've been going to Ramparts for years and it's always been "ok." Sunday's brunch was excellent and I will return soon. New decor is lovely and the atmosphere has been bumped up a few notches. Good job.
Ramparts is unfailing good. We usually stick to their burgers, prime rib, salads as they do such a great job, but everything is good. Great selection of draft beers also, plus wine choices. Service has always been professional and pleasant. Highly recommended. Dressy casual or business attire seems the norm. Nice
Corned beef and cabbage was not a great dish even on St. Patricks Day. Beef was a little fatty and chewy, the cabbage not fully cooked, and the dish as a whole was not all that appealing. Also, I had to look for our waitress to get a refill on tea. Overall, not a great dining experience. While a convenient neighorhood restaurant, maybe this is why the last time I ate here was over 20 years ago.
Very good food and service, nothing fancy. Great hamburgers, salads, specials. Consistent. Friendly.
Overall, we enjoyed our experience at Ramparts. But. Yes, but. "But" is why we still don't LOVE Ramparts. We visited on a Saturday night, and it was obvious they had understaffed by the wait for a server to come to our table. Once we connected with our server, things went fairly smoothly. However, the restaurant had been advertising on the home page of its website a Pork special, and at 7:15pm when I ordered it I got a "we just ran out." Yep, the "Monthly Special" was no more. And this has happened before at Ramparts. Well, I ordered the burger and was pleased, but the combination of waiting 10 minutes for first contact with our server combined with the "we're out" saga just has me not "showing the love." And I want to! Half-priced wines from a good list on Saturdays. Good food. Good draft beer. Awesome s'mores desert. PLEASE! Some consistency, Ramparts, and I'll show the love!!!
Th scene is pleasant, especially for a couple or family. The background music is all-inclusive, but this is not a lively weekend spot. The food is well-flavored, but not overdone. There should be something to enjoy for most all. You may need to keep asking for items, but the servicer will eventually accommodate to try to please you.
Ramparts is a great neighborhood hot spot. We love the bar tenders and wait staff. All are great and professional.
The area inside the restaurant is remodeled and not what you would think from outside. I initially asked to be seated away from the door and was not accommodated. I noticed a couple come in after me and they were taken to a back room instead of a table by the door. I raised the concern and was immediately reseated to a table that opened. From then on, the service was impeccable. The food was taste and fresh, with a nice living room appeal to the atmosphere. I would definitely return especially for a date or low-key dinner with a small group.
Made a reservation at 10:30pm. Showed up and the only thing that was open was the bar with 3 bar menu items available. We just turned around and drove the 20 minutes back home.
excellent food in a lovely neighborhood setting! We'll definitely be back!
Thanksgiving out has never been as good as it was here. The staff was perfect. The menu options were great. The food was served hot (always an issue every place else we have gone). They manage special requests with grace. The whole family left happy - what a miracle!
We are looking forward to going back when it is not a holiday :-)
Casual, neighborhood restaurant with very good food and a diverse menu.
Ramparts remains an "old reliable" neighborhood oriented restaurant with very good food, excellent service and good value for the dollar. We enjoyed a very good dinner on a Saturday night--which, FYI, is half price wine night (huzzah!). The buffalo wing appetizer was excellent and the spicy shrimp was very good. Our son enjoyed a generously portioned pulled pork sandwich while my wife and I had the scallop special. The scallops were excellent, the grilled asparagus was cooked perfectly, but the risotto, which sounded great on the menu, was quite bland. We were disappointed that the very cool S'mores dessert was not available because they were out of sterno, but the chocolate mousse cake was quickly consumed by wife and son. Another successful dining outing at Ramparts!
Everyone in Alexandria goes to Ramparts on Mondays for half price burger night. The burgers are good. This is just a decent local place. Nothing special.
Service was really great and food was delicious. Cannot believe we've lived so close for so long without going.
Came on a recommendation from a friend for their steak, not sure what he was referring to... only one steak on the menu and it was certainly not anything spectacular. Service not so great, the restaurant area we sat in, was dated, the physical structure, not especially appealing. French Onion soup, green beans, mashed potatoes, something you'd find anywhere, and the steak for $22, well, not sure to have expected to find anything special goin' on with that...
Definitely a neighborhood destination, hard to see why anyone would make an extended effort to get here as we did, as there's "nothing to see here"...
