About
Great local go to spot.
My wife and I reserved dinner for Valentine’s Day recently at Ramparts and we had a great evening. This is the first time we ate at this restaurant and we were pleasantly surprised. It’s an older restaurant with a small front lobby that virtually spills into the dining area. We ended up sitting at the bar while we waited for our table since it was away from the main door to shelter us from the noise, foot traffic and the cool draft from the door continually being opened. We had such a great time talking to the bartender that we ended up staying at the bar for our dinner. The Valentine’s special meal selection was excellent (4 courses) and the spirits were equally enjoyable and reasonably priced. The wait staff was friendly, fast and courteous. The only potential dings were the small waiting area while you waited for your table and parking is a challenge. We found out that the Burke & Herbert Bank across the street allows restaurant patrons to park in their lot after regular work hours. I wished we knew that before we came. OpenTable should add this to the Ramparts’ narrative on their website.
As usual, food, beverages, and service were excellent, in general, as well an overall excellent value. There was an additional “plus” this evening. One member of our party - there were two of us - is allergic to citrus fruit. In ordering a dish which included a citrus-based sauce, we asked the waiter to have the chef prepare the dish without the sauce. When the dish arrived, however, it looked like it was sitting the sauce. The waiter noted the error and asked if we would rather have the dish taken back. We indicated that it was not a matter of taste but an allergy - which we had forgotten to mention earlier. The waiter was very apologetic was sorry he hadn’t realized that an allergy was involved. After finding out that the dish routinely included a citrus component, we ordered a different dish which (1) was excellent, (2) served more quickly than would have been usual, and (3) delivered by the waiter with both his apologies and a free refill of the cocktail previously served to the guest with allergies.
Wonderful evening. Great meal. And that bartender, Buster, is simply phenomenal!
Service and food were excellent, as always. They have a great tap list as well! We make sure to come in for their monthly specials, which are always amazing!
Great food at a good price, and very nice service staff. We’re lucky this is our neighborhood pub!
Second time we have been there. Nothing special to write home about.
We first visited Ramparts in 1980 and had countless meals here for many years. We hadn't been for nearly two years, however, when we made this visit for dinner on a Friday night. Our server was very attentive, but the food was just okay. The brussel sprouts in the wrap sandwich were cold and hard: large sprouts that were cut in half, not chopped as the menu indicated. They were more than just crisp, they were very difficult to cut and to chew. The salmon salad was also satisfactory but not worthy of ordering again.
Great beer list Friendly staff Fantastic nachos and ribs S’mores dessert was awesome Worth a visit!
Good food and reasonable prices - a little noisy but great local spot to just grab dinner out - try some of special nights for very reasonable dinner out.
I was just wondering excited about to try ramparts.
Arrived for a reservation for a party of 5 and they tried to seat us at a table for 4 with an extra chair at the bf of table. Mind you I made a reservation. They told me it was made same day that why the small table. Why would you accept a reso for 5 if you didn’t have room even if it’s the same day?
Well next I ordered a glass of wine and it had lipstick on it. I asked for a clean glass and watched to
My horror the bartender pour the wine from the dirty glass to a new glass instead of pouring a new glass of wine. That was it for me, I paid for our sodas and left. So
I can’t give a review of the food.
Good place overall. Good service and good food. Seems like a neighborhood gem with lots of families coming in for dinner for New Year's Eve. They had a special menu, which was generous and delicious and upgraded from the regular menu we looked over. The ambiance could have been better if the lights had been dimmed a bit for dinner and a hostess be available to greet and seat guests. Service could use a little attention, but overall it was a good experience.
We go to Ramparts often. Food and service are consistently good. And the prices are very reasonable.
A great go to place!
We really enjoyed our luncheon!
We did a holiday cookie exchange brunch there and they had it set up nicely. Our waitress was great and the food was amazing. We look forward to hosting our next get together with them shortly.
I love Ramparts. I have never, ever gotten food there that wasn't excellent.
They have a knack for seasoning food to perfection!
Ramparts is a great neighborhood restaurant with very good food. It is a great place to have dinner with friends. The food is fresh with interesting preparations. The salads are great. The salmon is great. It's not too noisy, so a good place to talk.
We come often and it is always reliable. Food is good with excellent specials ! Our waitress Katie is outstanding and always remembers what our drink orders are !!
Ramparts has really upped their game on the past year. The food is excellent and the menu offers a great selection. The bar offers nice craft cocktails and an extensive wine list. Definitely will return.
Good service, pretty mediocre food.
A lovely lunch, we all ordered the Jack Chop. We will certainly return.
A good meal and great service every time. I really enjoy my dinners here.
Love this place!
Ramparts has really ramped up their whole operation. The interiors ha ebern.ipgraded and modernized. The food is definitely several steps up than a year ago.
Nice place, friendly and efficient service, and quality food. A little noisy, but manageable.
Great ambiance and service. I was disappointed in my fresh tuna which was quite ordinary.
Wonderful food. Tim was our waiter and he was just terrific.
I love this neighborhood restaurant. The food is always very good to excellent - I had very good crab cakes this time. I usually order the salmon, which also is delicious. The service is good. It is a good place to socialize with friends over a good meal and good drink.
Went for Father's Day brunch. They had a nice, varied brunch menu plus the regular menu. Food was tasty and not overpriced, atmosphere is neighborhood-friendly, servers are friendly and helpful.
Ramparts was a low key Sunday brunch. No lines to wait in or traffic to fight. Our server was very attentive. The food was tasty and a good value- it’s always exciting to get breakfast potatoes and bacon with your French toast’
Great tavern with excellent food. This is not upscale dining, it is really good food for a reasonable price in an environment that has a nice local tavern feel to it. And the staff/service seems to always be excellent.
I took a friend for lunch. Everything was excellent. Great food, service and very tasty mimosa.
Another reliable, go-to, comfort food, neighborhood favorite.
Excellent service. Tiffany is the best!
Went for mother's day and was seated right next to front door on a cold day which bothered my 71 year old mother. We asked for another table for this reason prior to being seated for this reason but were told by the hostess that her supervisor assigned the tables and she could not change them. We didn't argue the point because it was Mother's Day but the restaurant never got more than half full and two identical booths to ours remained open and unoccupied next to ours the entire time we were there. I was a little perturbed a minor request like seating an elderly person one more both away from the front door couldn't be accommodated given the number of empty booths in the restaurant. Other than this, server was very nice and food was good.
I have been a patron of Ramparts for over 25 years with my recent visit on 05.10.19. I ordered the salmon with cucumber sauce and brussel sprouts on the side. The salmon was good but the brussel sprouts were under cooked. My friend order a chicken wrap with a side order of brussel sprouts and her
brussel sprouts were undercooked as well. The waitress took care of the issue by replacing the brussel sprouts but they came after we had completed our entree. I would like to see more variety in the menu.
I'm hoping the chef can come up with some new options for their menu.
Always a favorite neighborhood restaurant known for comfort food, particularly hamburgers and other sandwiches; daily lunch specials Are a good deal.
Terrific local pub restaurant. Homemade corned beef hash was excellent.
I love Ramparts, but I didn't love that they automatically added a 20% gratuity - for a party of five! I didn't notice and wound up tipping twice...and the service wasn't that great to begin with. Buyer beware!
