Like the look of the restaurant, and the food was good and not too expensive. However, the hostess barely acknowledged us at first, looking down at her clipboard after noticing us coming in. And our waitress was pretty lukewarm as well. Chicken wings were good and my husband was happy for the gluten free menu. Cosmo was also good.
Good for a meal with friends or family. With a full-service bar featuring huge TV screens showing sports all the time, this is not a quiet spot for private conversation, but it's friendly, and the food is good. They are very careful about allergies, and have created a good gluten-free menu for those who need it. Enjoy the burger specials and the numerous house brews.
Our server was very friendly, however, the food was less than adequate. Cold burgers and fries when they came to our table. I've dined at the Rosemont location many times and I've never had a bad meal there but I won't be returning to the Wheeling location.
Couldn't even tell you our servers name because she didn't tell us. No introduction, or even a simple "how are you tonight?" I was a server/bartender for 8 years, so even though I might nitpick at certain things, I don't require much to make me happy. She was very impersonal and kind of looked like she just rolled out of bed. When leaving, both manager and hostess were standing up front and neither of them acknowledged myself or my fiance to say goodnight or thank you... or anything. Even the food runners ignored us. Again, it doesn't take much to make us happy, so it's pretty upsetting that we had such a bad experience here, because we love The Ram. Great food, but I highly doubt we'll visit this location again.
Seven of us were jammed into a small round table booth. The food was good; service was okay to good. Two couples had a "Free Dessert" card which were given to our server after she brought the bill. When she returned with the revised checks, neither "Free Dessert" card had been deducted from the bill. Also way too loud.
I really thought this place would be nicer than it was. The booths were a little grimy (just passing a wet rag isn't the same as cleaning). The menus were actually sticky and the film of junk made it hard to read them. Our waitress didn't smile once the whole time. Drinks (wine & beer) were served in tiny glasses. I had to request refills of ice tea every single time, it was never just brought to the table. This was my first time there and, with all the other options nearby, will be my last.
We have gone to the RAM in Wheeling on many Friday nights, but this time we were entertaining a family member from out of town. The food is consistently good and the service is always attentive without being rushed. The atmosphere is relaxed. Most times the noise level permits conversation, which was one of the reasons we chose to go there.
I was excited to try Ram... it was my mom's birthday and i noted that in the reservation as well as confirmed upon arrival.. they did nothing to celebrate it.. I ordered a specialty drink.. while I admit I changed it a little it tasted and smelled like grapefruit juice...which i did not order and was not in the description... when i asked the waitress she stated the bar didn't even have grapefruit juice.. really??
The food was uninspired .. the turkey and havarti would have had more zing on sourdough and the cheese mashed potatoes were lackluster ...I added a-1 and hot sauce to make them edible..
May or may not give them a second chance..
Dined at Ram Restaurant & Brewery - Wheeling on 5/13/17 at 6:00p. I ordered the Olympus Steak Salad. Before ordering I understood I may have to cut my own steak medallions. I did not realize I would have to chop the peppers, avocados, and onions myself. If I wanted to prep my own salad I'd stay home. All three literally came whole so it wasn't like they weren't small enough to meet my standards. In addition (and probably more disappointing), whom I presume was the Manager (because he was walking around chatting with most tables) came by and asked how everything was going because I think he saw us frustrated. At this time I relayed my frustration to him that I would not have ordered this salad if I'd known I would have to spend 15 minutes prepping my own salad because it was an inconvenience me and for my boyfriend whom had to wait 15 minutes for me to cut everything. It was very frustrating to both of us. The Manager did apologize for this misunderstanding, but in a customer service "no no" he turned it back on me and made it feel like it was my fault. I made it clear that it was our first time here so I didn't know and would have ordered something different if I'd known, and he said, "...this is how we prepare our salads, so for next time now you know to ask us to cut everything for you." He also said, "you're the first person that's every complained about this. First, there won't be a next time. Second, you don't make the customer feel like crap and like it's their fault on a situation like this. I wasn't asking for anything in return, just venting my frustration about how unclear the menu is, and the Manager made it my fault for not knowing something on my first time here. All the Manager would have had to do is ask, "is there anything I can do for you because of this inconvenience, and for next time just so you know this salad doesn't come fully prepped?" Don't ever make a customer feel like they should know how something is done.
