Really good Indian food!!
Raj Darbar offers good Indian food that is seasoned well. They call themselves healthy Indian food and many dishes meet this description. They use high quality ingredients and the dishes are very tasty. It is a fun place to eat. There is usually ample parking nearby.
We're longtime customers and we always enjoy their dishes, apps like samosa and naan. Try their specials and you can always ask if you're unsure of what the dish is about.
Dishes are great! We love the curry. The sauce is delicious . The environment is very quiet.
Having only eaten fast Indian food for lunch, this was a palate-opening experiencing. Indian business acquaintances did the ordering. I did the eating. Delicious! Lamb, chicken and vegan assortment. Spices were tasty without overpowering.
Great Indian cuisine at a great price! We will definitely go here again!
I was with a group of four when I visited and each dish we ordered was terrific. We all agreed we would come back soon.
All the food was great. Reminder of the stews we make. Nan bread was amazing for food pickup. Great for tasting and in a group. Serving sizes were generously portioned.
Food was OK but nothing to write home about. Service staff was attentive.
Dhansak dish was not flavorful. Too many tomatoes in the korma curry.
Saagg Gosht and chicken tandoori - the best! Large portions, attentive service.
The food is consistently great. Decent portions and you can choose your level of spicy which is always nice. I have tried several dishes and have not be disappointed with the food...the service on the other hand is a hit or miss. I have gone several times and have sat with an empty glass of water even after requesting some. Ice very rarely comes with the water not sure why however, I am not a fan of just chilled or much less room temperature water. The service is just never that good if the owner is not there. The last two visits I was asked by the server if I could tip in cash when I presented my credit card. It made me feel a bit uncomfortable as I never carry cash and I know the guests in the booth behind me were also taken a back by this request as they were complaining amongst themselves when they were asked to tip in cash as well. Again, the food is great but the service could be better.
It was a Monday night, so not peak time of the week, although they seemed to do a good takeout/delivery trade. I had a desire for a chicken tikka masala, although ended up going for the chicken korma. Not sure that was what I got, but still very nice. A lot of sauce, not so much chicken. Good amount of rice. Nice wine. The only problem was they forgot to bring my husbands food, despite asking how spicy etc, so the waiter had heard, the order for his didn't make it into the kitchen. It came eventually and was fine. We weren't in a hurry.
Excellent service by all the workers there. Food was amazing! First time being here, but I am definitely coming back. :-) Can't wait to bring the rest of my friends and family here!
Appears to be very popular for carry-out; lots of brown bags throughout the evening. A member of our party was uncertain about trying Indian food but enjoyed it and said he would be happy to return - victory!
Indian cuisine was on my wife's list for her birthday. Thanks to Restaurant.com and reservations through Open Table, we discovered Raj Darbar Indian Restaurant in Lakeview. Eating early certainly makes finding a table easy. Our server helped us better understand the menu. Our sampler appetizer platter was a meal in itself. Although most items were fried, they were tasty. Out meals were very large portions, providing meals to take with us. The chicken dishes were of particular note with large chunks of succulent white meat. We'd definitely return.
If you're looking for a great Indian restaurant in Lincoln Park, this is it! Food is very tasty and well prepared. The spicinest level is just perfect! Also, you can custom your order to which spice level you want. Lots of vegan options. Great for dinner date as it won't break the bank!
Excellent quality food, to be appreciated by those who know Indian Food. The restaurant is lovely and tasteful as well as quiet. A nice place to host a group or a party.
We were literally the only people there on a Sunday night at 8pm. Too bad. Used to like this place.
If you're looking for very good Indian food, this is your spot. Best I've had in Chicago, so compliments to the kitchen. The lamb curry was outstanding, as was the paneer tikka. All of our dishes were very, very good. The service was very inexperienced, and the bar is poorly stocked. But if you can get over the normal Chicago service fetish and direct the otherwise friendly staff, and if you byob (they charge $1/person in corking fee), you'll have a great meal. Nice interior space. It seemed like they were doing lots of take-out, which makes sense. If there were a rating for take-out, Raj would get 5 stars easy.
Pretty much your standard Indian restaurant in America with the typical dishes. Ambiance is nothing special - traditional tabla music makes it a bit monotonous - they could increase the energy in here with some Bollywood music and some uniforms for the staff.
Food is decent and the tandoori chicken portion is huge and is only $14.
What can I say? The food was VERY GOOD. We went there for dinner and, despite having a lot of delicious dishes (we ate a lot), none of us felt 'heavy' the next morning. That means, the food was fresh and of good quality. Servings are GENEROUS, service is great and the ambience is pleasant. I strongly recommend this place.
This is my favorite Indian place. Their food is very good, and priced well. Mt fiance and I have gone many times, and it's always as good as we remember.
Very polite staff. Food flavorful. Decor could use some upgrading. Parking garage directly across the street.
The food was amazing and I appreciated the ambiance. My daughter n law would definitely visit again and bring some friends.
Food was great, service lacking.
good was decent but not worth going back to
It has been awhile since I have a good Indian curry. Me and my wife found this place thanks to opentable reviews, and we are very please with the food, and restaurant overall. Food tasted great!! atmosphere was good, what more do you need?!
very good food or dishes but a little too spiced even if we asked no so spiced.
Far and away one of the most friendly wait staffs I have encountered. Everyone had a sincere smile and made you feel that they were glad you were there.
Food tasted good, hot and fresh. Especially liked the vegetable samosas.
The food was amazing - very authentic. We just returned from a trip to India and this place transported us back. Best Dhal, roti and nan. Highly recommended. It is quite pricey but the portions are huge. You can share.
I really enjoy Indian food and my wife is a vegetarian. We were both very pleased.
The quality of the food was very poor -- certainly not up to their prior standards. The waitstaff was nonexistent even though there was only one other table in the restaurant. We won't be back. Lousy service / lousy food.
Terrible Service. Lost our order and never came to check up on me.
The restaurant was quite busy on Saturday for dinner. The staff were very polite, but seemed a bit rushed and frazzled. Our food was delicious and way more than we could finish. I had a shrimp dish in thick tomato sauce and my partner had a curried vegetable dish. The Red Rock wine was a good compliment with both dishes. The Nan was a no.
Walking into the restaurant gets me going. The aromas are wonderful. I wish it didn't take so long to get a waiter to pay attention once we are seated and come back to take my order. Once the food finally arrives it is memorably good. I wish that I didn't feel so neglected while I watch neighboring tables eating and I can't get a waiter's attention to place my order.
Food is delicious and offered good variety of naan. Service needs to be improved. good place to dine if I lived in the area but there are other Indian restaurants with equally good food with better service for the price.
The best indian food I have ever had. Samosa are just unforgettable.
Raj Darbar is my favorite Indian restaurant in Chicago. The food is memorably good. The service is attentive. The value is good.
WE ORDERED BREAD AND ASKED THAT IT BE SERVED WITH OUR APPETIZERS. THE OWNER REFUSED TO BRING
US BREAD UNTIL THE ENTREE WAS SERVED....OUTRAGEOUS...WILL NOT GO BACK...FOOD WAS JUST FAIR
