Had the Elk Sauerbraten. It was good but not really sauerbraten. Service was great.
Quiet table with beautiful view of mountain and river. Variety cocktails and wine choices. Food was creative and very delicious. Beautiful presentation. Soup was remarkable. Professional and attentive staff.
Celebrating our anniversary. All were very friendly. Easily fixed the error on our salad when wrong ones brought
We were there on a weeknight and the food was pretty good but the menu choices are limited. When we walked in the place was nearly empty at 7pm except for people on the porch and the waiters and hostess were sitting at the bar just hanging out. The view outside was nice. Our waiter was disorganized and forgetful. It was ok but overpriced
Fantastic setting along the river
I guess I would recommend for location and food. However, Our waiter had a lazy attitude was poorly trained and dull personality. The bartender made a very "short pour" manhatten... half full...$14.00..tried to return to get a "full" drink and he said no...so, get smaller glasses if that is what you are going to pour...shameful. Food was very slow with only 4 other tables in the restaurant. Food was quite good but hard to overcome the other flaws.
Beautiful setting, but the service is poor and the food is relatively expensive for what it is.
Service was slow - had to remind waiter of our cocktail and water order twice.
We loved our server, Lauren and the food was fantastic ❗️
The elk steak and the pork chop were both delicious.
We had a hot berry dessert that was unbelievable.
We would recommend this restaurant highly.
After waiting 15 min passed my reservation, when there was only a few diners, I ask when we would be seated and was ignored so the hostess so she could seat a party coming in, we were put in a back corner even though I had made reservations months ago stating we were dining there for my wife's birthday, when I ask for a better table I was told I would have to talk to the manager, in the mean time we order drinks which took over 20 mins to arrive and only half the drinks were brought. the manager showed up and said he was sorry but all the other tables were taken, but he would buy our drinks, which took another 20 mins to get the rest of our drinks, dinner was served and it was excellent. but when the bill came all the drinks were on the bill. discussed I paid the bill and left. Only went to this restaurateur because on-line it was rated top restaurateur in Montana and should be on your bucket list. Well it's on my sh-t list.
Excellent food, excellent service. Beautiful view.
Excellent service and food in a wonderful location. Great recommendations from our server and manager. We watched a sweet wedding taking place outside from our table by the window. We will return.
Everything was wrong except wine. Four dining total all orders were wrong. Example I ordered Beef Filet and was served Trout (trout was good but room temperature). I have dined at RBR many times. Dining time was high season but resturant was not over crowded at all. Our server offered to pay our bill which we declined. The Manager came out to say sorry and offered to pay for the Elk that was cooked very well done which is a no no for Elk. Soup cold, wrong salads, small bite was prepared wrong. Our group fine dine all the time and this dining experience was a shock for a $$$$ establishment.
Great. Good food great wine list
The Rainbow Ranch Restaurant was wonderful - the ambiance and service were friendly and accommodating. Though the food selection was small, every dish was absolutely delicious. The wine selection provided a wide variety and the Cabernet we ordered was wonderful. I highly recommend!
Friendly snd enthusiastic service! Interesting sounding menu but bizarre presentation, strange pairings, uninspiring flavors.
The food was ok but way overpriced. Our server was very good and competent but the other server on duty kept coming to our table and re-doing everything the other server did. A loud party of people were so loud we could barely hear each other...there was no getting away from that group because the dining area is not built to accommodate this
Great spot, great food!!
They were out of a LOT of items, including kids’ chicken tenders. Blah food. Just ok overall. Better options if you can get into the other restaurants around Big Sky.
Delicious end to a day of skiing.
Everything was wonderful. Always a favorite when in Big Sky . We had the mussels and shrimp. A ciopino style dish , with ample seafood. The broth was good but a bit bland . The sauce makes the dish so it was good but with a statement sauce , it would have been better. I suggest fennel and basil with a bit more tomato.
What a wonderful dining experience I can hardly wait for my return to Big Sky Country to see & taste what their chefs dream up. My entree of roasted halibut, elk shank, beets, enoki mushrooms was Devine as well as beautifully presented.
The best (bison) steak I have ever had!! Everything was cooked to perfection. Staff were helpful and checked in often but not too much. I will return here. Perfect for dinner alone or a romantic spot.
Bunch of skiers got together.
Wine list was a mess. Things on menu were not available. Inexperienced servers.
Not impressed. We walked in to the receptionist greeting us and was very sweet at first by giving us a tour of the lodge, but then proceeded to use the F word when describing many aspects of the lodge...was very unprofessional. We got seated and our server really didn't know much about the menu and just kept pushing the combination platter. They didn't have a couple of the items on the menu and said they were out, but it was only 7:30 and the place opened at 5, so that was strange. They couldn't get our dessert order right and then when they brought it out, it was incorrect - we called them out on it and they proceeded to laugh at us saying that it was correct - only to turn around 10 minutes later and state that we were in fact, right and they had to use "the backup tub of ice cream". Our berries were rock solid hard and frozen (uneatable) ...the service was poor to say the least - they comp'd nothing off our meal to compensate, yet came and apologized for laughing at us. For the money that was spent, I expected A LOT better service, food and class. Very surprising for a Friday night and for a place that was so highly recommended to us. Would NOT revisit or recommend.
Really great service, food was excellent. Amazing wine list.
Was told they did not have tea and then after diner went to the bar and at the bar was a tea/ coffee station with plenty of tea.
The food was excellent. One highlight was crab bisque soup, another was Composition of Game, including
elk chop and boar. Our server Lauren was very knowledgeable about the food, the restaurant, and the arab. 5 stars
Excellent service and wide variety of food/menu choices.
Great place for a quite dinner, with excellent service and food
Service was excellent first of all. But the food was average at best. Sweetbreads were grilled but tasted like baked. No grill flavor whatsoever. Halibut for the main dish was cold on the inside and once I added a touch of salt to the mushroom farro it was ver good. To their credit they gave a free dessert when I mentioned the cold fish at the end when the server asked how everything was. My wife steak was very well prepared. Dessert was a special and the used a blowtorch on the top and it unfortunately made everything taste burned but the berries and cobbler were great if you got a bite without the burned top. Wanted to like it and one dish always gets a pass when dining out but there were too many that just weren’t very good.
The coctails were fantastic, menu very creative and excellent, food quality top shelf. wine list first rate. we always enjoy our night there to celebrate my wifes birthday and the end of our holiday ski trip. Great place, would love to stay there, but not convenient to the mountain.
Rainbow Ranch is the best restaurant in the Big Sky area. We highly recommend it!
When we arrived for our reservation, there was a large party in the dining room and the noise level was quite high. Fortunately, they were preparing to leave and gradually became a little quieter. Service was okay but considering the reputation of Rainbow Ranch, I think we expected it to be a little better. Granted, it was the holidays, which is a hectic time of the year for restaurants.
Usually outstanding. But the fish dinner was disappointing. The fish though delicious was a surprisingly small portion. While The boar portion surprisingly large and just way too many beets filling the plate. The other dinner of wild game was excellent. Service as always was excellent.

Feel free to give me a call directly if you're open to giving us another opportunity to provide you with a wonderful meal. --Kelli Kunz
We had an amazing time at the Rainbow Ranch Lodge! The Lodge was decorated festive for the holidays and is a beautiful place inside & out. We had a great bartender during the Happy Hour and an amazing server when we sat to eat in the restaurant. The food was unique and so divine. There is also an amazing selection of wines to choose from!
Thank you so much for the wonderful review! We are so happy to hear you had such a lovely dining experience with us!
Great food, experience and staff all around and would recommend this stop to anyone in town.
We were there for our Thanksgiving dinner. Our waiter looked like he was just seasonal as he didn’t seem to have a lot of experience (couldn’t remember our order, struggled to open the bottle of wine, overcharged us, didn’t have great social skills). He also appeared to be a bit sleepy, which made our experience a bit awkward. The staff looked mostly confused that night. 4 different members of the staff brought and took our plates - quite confusing. We were overcharged for the wine we ordered, which was rectified after we noticed it on the receipt. The restaurant underestimated the amount of customers they would have that night, which meant we no longer had more than 1 dessert option. The food was mostly good.
Our main course and drinks were wonderful, however the appetizers were underwhelming.
A fine dining experience with a fantastic menu. The service was extremely attentive and the meals were perfectly prepared. It was a real treat to dine here. The views of the property and the mountains are spectacular and the lodge itself is so charming. They also make fantastic craft cocktails at the bar!
