Rainbow Lodge Ratings and Reviews
Everything was great other than the portions. When you pay 50 dollars for a plate you expect more than three asparagus and should have decent sized sides. Otherwise, the food was very tasty and the server was fantastic. I would recommend, but I would do so being sure to let them know do not anticipate being full.
We had a very nice lunch for my mother who recently turned 80. There was a wide range of food choices and everything we had was excellent - chicken fried venison cutlets, overnight red wine braised short ribs, grilled swordfish, and smoked chicken and gouda pretzel bun sliders. The restaurant was busy but not crowded, and it was still quiet enough for conversation. We all enjoyed the views of the grounds and the fishing lodge ambiance.
The setting was perfect for our birthday celebration.
The service was far from a 5 star restaurant. For the price, tasty dishes and excellent service, go to Presidio over on 11th in the Heights.
From the moment we walked in and were barely greeted by an older lady with a sour-puss attitude, to the waitress complaining that she would prefer I pay now while she is standing there in order to save her some walking steps back up the stairs....the attitude of the service sucked.
This could have been our new favorite place but the attitude of the depressed staff was sad for such a perfect setting in the big city.
No one at hostess stand when I arrived & waited about 5 min at 11:30; my guest had same experience. Crab cake was shredded with lump crab only on top but flavor was good. Very small portion of trout for the price. Service was a little slow. Biggest complaint is the music -- I love classic rock but it's hard to have a conversation when it's playing so loud.
We waited 20 mins to be acknowledged after being seated for our reservation. The waiter who noticed their was no water or sign of service at our table, finally came over. He acknowledged we had not been served and decided to be our impromptu waiter. Before and during our dining experience, there were three staff members addressing the other three tables multiple times in our immediate area. While only the one waiter ever acknowledged my husband and I. Leads me to look around for the difference, the only thing I could visualize was our skin pigmentation. Very disappointed from a four start restaurant, especially in Houston Texas. I was scouting the restaurant for a potential place to bring several hospital benefactors in Nov. After my experience we will not return nor recommend this restaurant to any one else.
The food is very hearty, game-y, and warm. Good for winters and cozy all-American food. Have to have an appropriate appetite for heavy food, but overall it was DELICIOUS! As well, the building was very lodge-esque and really transported you to a Montana mentality. The “backyard” has a creek, romantically lit walkway, and you can even enjoy your meal on the back porch under stained glass lanterns. Definitely will return!
Overall the dining experience was nice and we had a great waiter. My only objection was for some reason they were experiencing a FLY issue. These fly were some of the biggest flys I have ever seen. Particularly bothersome is you had a window seat. Very annoying. Hope it’s a temporary problem.
This place is a nice Neighborhood Gem. It has very idyllic views to the surrounding nature. A rustic-elegant charm. The service team is very friendly and attentive. The food tastes very good, a lot of special meats on the menu. Not high-end fancy, but solid cuisine.
