We went there for Valentine’s Day and I ordered elk steak , it was all red and pink when I asked for medium well , the toffee cake was not suited to my case
Overall it was okay because of the ambience but if im paying 200 + for two people , I would expect something more delightful
Everything was very good, Valentine day price a little high, but as everywhere.
Went for Valentines Day and had a wonderful experience.
For someone that has been here before which we had great service at the time. Then to come back for a special occasion and recieve okay service with the food being cold and the waiter taking a while to acknowledge our needs.
Rainbow lodge was fantastic. The food was really amazing and the service was really awesome. I can't wait to go back and eat some more amazing food
We just recently moved to Houston Texas to help our son and his spouse care for their new born baby. We are getting familiar with the roads so we use Waze to guide us places. On Valentines Day we wanted to come to the Rainbow Lodge to have a nice tranquil romantic lunch. There must have been a problem bcuz Waze originally said it would take about 14 minutes to get there. We left 25 minutes before bcuz we hate to be late. When we started to drive the gps monitor said 20 minutes.
To make a long story short we arrived at the Rainbow Lodge an hour late after driving past the airport and near a Mortuary Museum.
They could not be nicer to us as though we had arrived exactly on time.
We had a great table with excellent suggestions from our waiter whenever we asked. The food was so good we agreed to come back again soon. We were just a short distance away so we will go there often. It will be our new destination. We won’t need Waze to help us get there.
Great people, great food and of course great service.
It was amazing service, great food and beautiful views from the window. Overall a great Valentine’s Day dinner with my husband.
They sat us in the corridor...
Was a nice new experience. Reminded me somewhat of Africa. Asked for my steak to be well done and it was but lots of carbon on the outside. A good chef can cook one well done without the carbon on the outside. Other than that we enjoyed it all. Daniel was very pleasant and attentive.
Excellent food and service!! Everything from pulling into valet to paying the check was a pleasure. We will return!
The menu did not have enough normal food on it to accommodate a less adventurous person. I was willing to try something new but my husband was not. The flavor on his potatoes was a vinegar sauce and the steak was rare instead of medium well. Over all, we will not be returning. The portions were small, the bread is hard on the outside and tough to eat, and I dont believe we got our money's worth from this evening.
This was our third dining experience here. The trophy room is not as pleasant as the room with a view of the lawn. The gumbo was OK. The tenderloin plate was skimpy with the mushrooms and broccolini. The lemon pie was very tasty. The Maple Old Fashion was great. The Bombay Sapphire martini was good. The lamb plate was good. My wife was more pleased than was I.
I lived in the Heights a few years ago, and it was one of our favorite spots. I returned recently for a business dinner, and the restaurant maintained the high standards I remembered. We focused on the game selections, a strength of the menu. Thanks for the warm and attentive hospitality from the team! It was great to be re-acquainted with an old friend!
We went to the Rainbow Lodge on a Wednesday evening to celebrate Valentine's Day. The place was full. It's a nice place but it was rather noisy and definitely not intimate. The service was ok, but not great. We both ordered the mixed grill - venison, elk, wild boar, and quail ($41) with mashed potatoes and a couple pieces of asparagus. Salad is extra. We find the food tastes better at Fogo De Chao. We had come to the Rainbow Lodge about 20 years ago. We thought we'd try it again. We won't be coming back.
We have been to several of the wine tastings and primarily come for the different wines. The food is usually very good, too. This last one caused me concerns about the safety of the food as two of the stations had food that was definitely off temperature. It was lukewarm at best. We enjoy dining at the restaurant and the food has always been top notch. They are doing a disservice to the guests and themselves if they have food issues at these tastings.
Always enjoy it, but this time it was over sold and extremely noisey
Rainbow Lodge is always a class act. Great food and service.
We met up for the wine tasting at The Lodge; waiting for a taste caused the occasional dodge. The four of us, in time, became happy; many patrons' palates were rewarded, and thus began clapping. As the evening wore on the smiles grew; Mexican wines this good - who knew?
The service was slow and inattentive. The food was decent but not great. We had not been to Rainbow Lodge for many years and decided to give it another chance. Overall, we were disappointed.
Beautifully maintained old cabin. Food was superb and waitstaff friendly and professional. Grounds surprisingly woodsy for location. Highly recommended.
Our anniversary dinner was pleasant. Food was delicious and Ryan was knowledgeable about menu. Two large parties nearby created a noise level that was uncomfortable for our party of four to have good conversation. Upon further scrutiny of our bill when we got home we discovered we had been charged for a cocktail that we did not order. All in all, glad we made the trip to dine at Rainbow Lodge.
Throughly enjoy the food and atmosphere. Have had dinner their several times with tables which had a view. The only negative this time the table was in a very back corner with no view.
Make sure to read the fine print on all dishes. They will word no sharing as no taste sharing. The chefs deal for $79.00 is per person. We were new to this establishment and told them this 3 different times and didn’t get the courtesy from the waiter to mention “oh by the way this is per person and no sharing”.
Very disappointed because we said we wanted the chefs special thinking only 1 was coming out but no they charged us for 2 and 2 came out. Be careful.
the pecan pie was frozen,
i did not care for that.
Had the Nilgai. What is Nilgai you ask?
"The nilgai or blue bull is the largest Asian antelope and is endemic to the Indian subcontinent. The sole member of the genus Boselaphus, the species was described and given its binomial name by German zoologist Peter Simon Pallas in 1766."
And th Rainbow Lodge cooks and serves it perfectly with grits and a bottle of wine!
Very impressed with the service but even more so with the food! The game meat was out of the world good!
All five of my guests in our lunch party were delighted. Food was delicious, as always, and the service outstanding as well. The lunch crowd thinned out by 1:30, and then we had the room to ourselves.
We had a lovely time at Rainbow Lodge and the food was incredible!
One of my husband and my favorite special date night restaurants. The food is always delicious, the ambiance is romantic and the staff are so friendly and professional. It will continue to be a go to for us.
While the food itself was outstanding as usual, the service leaves something to be desired. For $150 per person I expect the waiter to introduce himself by name, glasses to be cleared, and the water refilled. Also, the 6-course tasting menu leaves you hungry at the end; big fail. The tasting menu is a poor value unfortunately. I recommend you stick to the main menu.
Rainbow Lodge never disappoints... Our server Ryan was excellent!
I want to give the restaurant props as they ended on a high note by presenting us with nice desert plates with hand drawn Happy Anniversary and Happy Birthday wishes in chocolate...and the table with a beautiful view of the outside grounds was great. But that was all I can say was good. The food, each of our four dishes, was all only mildly warm and the service could not have been much slower or inattentive. I had to send my steak back to heat it up and never saw a manager. The 5 star price we paid was totally out of line with the 1-1/2 star experience. Even the valet attendants seemed disinterested in their jobs. Very disappointed in an old favorite.
This is an interesting place but doesnt have the charm of 20 years ago. If money isn’t a consideration its fun to try the specialized exoticmeats, etc.
We shared an appetizer of 3 small items (bison, pheasant, and I think lamb.) $16.
I had lobster risotto that was very good and my husband had the duck that had good flavor. Wine is over priced. Birthday desert was a joke.
The server didn’t offer desert for me or coffee. It wasnt worth almost $200.
Also there is limited parking so be prepared to valet.
when you want to find a place that is unique, there is no better place to go.
