Railcar Modern American Kitchen Ratings and Reviews
The food was satisfactory, definitely not worth the price. The service was extremely slow, and since we were seated near the door right next to the kitchen (though we had a reservation and other seats were available), the experience was not particularly enjoyable.
We were very impressed with Railcar when we visited on New Year’s Eve. Even though they were pretty busy, we were seated right away and our server was attentive. She even made sure my husband got the last of the specials they were serving that night! The food and drinks were great. I would definitely recommend visiting.
We dined here for New Years Eve in a group of 5. Our table was ready. The table was pretty tight for 5 and was right by the window and entrance so it was very cold. Our waitress was very attentive and helpful. We had a growler of a wonderful beer (Isolation Ale from Odell Brewery) which was so good we had two! Our friends ordered a bottle of wine which was very good also. There was a special New Years Eve menu and 4 out of 5 of us ordered the same thing (New York Strip Oscar). It was very good but each of our steaks was undercooked. I ordered medium well which came out medium, two ordered medium which came out medium rare and
1 ordered medium rare and came out rare. We didn't ask to have them cooked longer as that is a hassle. We just made due but that is why I only gave 3 stars. The Bisque soup and mashed potatoes were good. Our friend ordered salmon and it was very good.
It is a small narrow restaurant that does get loud but it was New Years so it was packed. I wouldn't hesitate to return.
We went to dinner here in New Year's Eve. It was cold and relatively busy, (as you would expect). We were sitting close enough to the next table that you could almost hear them chewing their food. Every time the door opened we were hit with a blast of cold air. The prime rib could not be cut with the knife they provided. We had been there a few times before and thought it was great, we will not be going back after this last visit
We enjoyed the ambiance and feel of Railcar. It was family friendly and inviting. The people were very nice and the food was decent. The menu looked great and the kids menu looked even better. What a great value for a child's menu!
The food was decent. We enjoyed some items and we felt like they missed on some items. Nothing was a wow factor. We'd go there again but stick to brunch next time!
This is the second time my wife and I have been to Railcar, the first time being over a year ago.
The food was as good this time as I remember it being last time. The wait staff was super friendly, helpful, and courteous.
I have the Risotto and my wife the Prime Rib, we split the Brussel Sprouts appetizer. As I said, the food was as good as I remember it being last time and the ambiance was warm and inviting.
I would definitely recommend anyone dining at Railcar and look forward to making it to try their brunch one of these days.
While the food was great - the service on a not so busy Friday was less than stellar. It took 20 minutes to get our first drink order and our server did not even get water for all of our party of 7. Also, one of our party's dish was not even made when all others were brought to the table. May give them another try as the food was excellent.
So we've been to Railcar a dozen+ times and always spend $100+ on dinner for two. We've never had exceptional service, service has always been so-so. The food is usually pretty good, though. The experience we had on 12/20/2017 was not up to par. We started off with the Rombauer Chardonnay which was $75 a bottle. At this point the server should have stepped his game up as we were obviously about to spend some money on this meal. It took him 20 minutes to bring the wine. He then took our order and it took 20 minutes for the side salad, soup and bread to come out. About thirty minutes later our entree's came out. My partner had the scallop and peekytoe crab rissoto and I had the steak medallions with yukon gold mashed and asparagus. The rissoto was okay, but the steak medallion meal came out cold! I said something to the server, but by the time we saw him again my partner was half done with her food and had they heated it up it would have over cooked the steak and I wasn't about to wait for new food as this entire experience was taking Much longer than it should have, especially as they didn't even have a full house. The server just said, "sorry, I guess I can let the manager know." We never saw a manager, no manager cam out to the table. Altogether we spent just under $200.00 on a meal for two that was sub par at best. The worst part was hearing the gentleman behind me complain about his steak and them only offering him a free desert and two other gentleman sitting in front of us wait nearly thirty minutes to get their card ran after getting their bill and them complain openly about their wait times throughout the evening. I don't do too many survey's, but we used to love Railcar, but I don't know what's going on their right now, but my good impression has fastly faded. I hope they figure it out..
I just wanted to share with you about my fantastic experience for brunch this morning.
First off, we arrived at 10:00 for my reservation for 2 at 10:15. We were greeted right away and immediately shown to our table. The hostess was friendly with a great disposition.
After being seated, our waiter showed up very quickly for our drink order which came very promptly. He asked if we had any questions then took our order. I ordered the Eggs Florentine with smoked salmon and Mom ordered the French toast with a side of scrambled eggs.
Mom's eggs were fluffy and seasoned to perfection. Her French toast looked amazing as well. The potatoes were crispy and looked great.
Now for my dish. I broke one of the poached eggs first to find a nice runny yolk and a beautify cooked white. (I can't ever seem to poach an egg like that at home). I cut a small piece of the smoked salmon on my fork with a mushroom, artichoke, and made sure to get some of the hollandaise sauce. It was like a firework of flavor exploded I'm my mouth. That Tomato hollandaise sauce is exceptional! I could drink a cup of that all by itself! Every subsequent bite was just as good. Adding the texture of those crispy potatoes was a welcome surprise. Now, I have ate at some quite "fancy" and expensive restaurants all over the country. This was, put simply, the best breakfast I have ever had.
I've had dinner at Railcar several times this was my first time for brunch. We have never been disappointed by the food, atmosphere, or service. Keep up the good work. Railcar and Timber are our favorite restaurants in Omaha
My wife and I last ate at RC a year ago. So We thought it would be nice to celebrate her birthday with our 3 grown sons on Friday 12/1/17 Service was much more professional last year. The waitress was not attentive to basics (silver ware for 5th person) slow on beverages. I ordered porkchop which did not come served on cedar board as last time, although good it was not as flavorful. Seating at 715 was prompt but dinner was a wait despite not being full. For the expensive meal I was disappointed in service, and the just okay food. Will not be visiting again. With so many choices in Omaha no sense wasting time here again.
I very much enjoyed this meal with my mom. The food was good- although the menu was limited. Which I didn't mind. Service was somewhat lacking, our server seemed very nervous to approach our table and talk about specials. I don't bite! I will go back again, just hope it's a little more fun and the wait staff doesn't make me feel so uncomfortable
We had a group of eight get together for a wrap-up Thanksgiving brunch. This was my first visit to Railcar and it impressed me with the menu, the service and the obvious effort each staff member made to make sure things were going OK. These small things aren't small things and were much appreciated.
Everyone in the group found something "unusual" that they liked, and no one came away unhappy.
It won't be long before a bit of a freshening up of the interior might be called for, but it was certainly acceptable and clean.
They've made a commitment it seems to managing the noise level, and that was much much appreciated.
Overall, a very good to outstanding experience. Well done Railcar.
Service was bad from the start. Our drinks took 15 minutes, even to get waters. The food took 40 minutes and multiple people ordered the same dish but they all came out different with some missing their side dish and some not being topped with the right ingredients. I’ve been here many times and love the food but the service is always mediocre at best. After this visit, I will not be returning.
Food is really good, but a little pricey. Service was a little slow this time around. We had to ask tell them we wanted an appetizer vs being asked. This was after they walked passed us several times. This is the only time this has happened to us their and they weren’t that busy.
