Railcar Modern American Kitchen Ratings and Reviews
I just wanted to share with you about my fantastic experience for brunch this morning.
First off, we arrived at 10:00 for my reservation for 2 at 10:15. We were greeted right away and immediately shown to our table. The hostess was friendly with a great disposition.
After being seated, our waiter showed up very quickly for our drink order which came very promptly. He asked if we had any questions then took our order. I ordered the Eggs Florentine with smoked salmon and Mom ordered the French toast with a side of scrambled eggs.
Mom's eggs were fluffy and seasoned to perfection. Her French toast looked amazing as well. The potatoes were crispy and looked great.
Now for my dish. I broke one of the poached eggs first to find a nice runny yolk and a beautify cooked white. (I can't ever seem to poach an egg like that at home). I cut a small piece of the smoked salmon on my fork with a mushroom, artichoke, and made sure to get some of the hollandaise sauce. It was like a firework of flavor exploded I'm my mouth. That Tomato hollandaise sauce is exceptional! I could drink a cup of that all by itself! Every subsequent bite was just as good. Adding the texture of those crispy potatoes was a welcome surprise. Now, I have ate at some quite "fancy" and expensive restaurants all over the country. This was, put simply, the best breakfast I have ever had.
I've had dinner at Railcar several times this was my first time for brunch. We have never been disappointed by the food, atmosphere, or service. Keep up the good work. Railcar and Timber are our favorite restaurants in Omaha
My wife and I last ate at RC a year ago. So We thought it would be nice to celebrate her birthday with our 3 grown sons on Friday 12/1/17 Service was much more professional last year. The waitress was not attentive to basics (silver ware for 5th person) slow on beverages. I ordered porkchop which did not come served on cedar board as last time, although good it was not as flavorful. Seating at 715 was prompt but dinner was a wait despite not being full. For the expensive meal I was disappointed in service, and the just okay food. Will not be visiting again. With so many choices in Omaha no sense wasting time here again.
We had a group of eight get together for a wrap-up Thanksgiving brunch. This was my first visit to Railcar and it impressed me with the menu, the service and the obvious effort each staff member made to make sure things were going OK. These small things aren't small things and were much appreciated.
Everyone in the group found something "unusual" that they liked, and no one came away unhappy.
It won't be long before a bit of a freshening up of the interior might be called for, but it was certainly acceptable and clean.
They've made a commitment it seems to managing the noise level, and that was much much appreciated.
Overall, a very good to outstanding experience. Well done Railcar.
Service was bad from the start. Our drinks took 15 minutes, even to get waters. The food took 40 minutes and multiple people ordered the same dish but they all came out different with some missing their side dish and some not being topped with the right ingredients. I’ve been here many times and love the food but the service is always mediocre at best. After this visit, I will not be returning.
Food is really good, but a little pricey. Service was a little slow this time around. We had to ask tell them we wanted an appetizer vs being asked. This was after they walked passed us several times. This is the only time this has happened to us their and they weren’t that busy.
I made a reservation stating that one diner had Celiac Disease and let the server know as well that I needed gluten free due to a medical condition. On their website it states that the Executive Chef/Owner worked with the Celiac Foundation to create more effective dining options for allergen sensitive diners, so I felt comfortable trying this place for the first time. I ordered a side salad without croutons and after eating half of the salad I found crouton crumbs hidden underneath the lettuce. So, the kitchen clearly just took the croutons off and mixed the salad so I would not notice. My main meal came out, which I ordered salmon, and the meal was not modified correctly to be gluten free so they had to remake that. The server was very apologetic, but it was clear that the wait staff and kitchen were not knowledgeable about proper food handling when it came to allergens. The server then brought our bill out and we were charged for everything and a manager never came to our table to check on a customer that they made ill. I will not be visiting this restaurant again and I would urge anyone else with an allergen to steer clear as well. If they are so careless with people's food that actually have a medical condition, I don't want to even think about how careless they can be with the general public's food.
I got the Prime Rib which was recommended as "the best in Omaha". My family got there food first which was fine but then had to remind the manager I didn't get mine. After 15 mins mine came out that was literally 50%+ fat and thin. This was supposed to be the 16oz cut obviously they weren't ready with the Rib before and we're trying to make the weight by giving me so much fat. Then the waiter agreed that it didn't look right so I sent it back only to have the Manager argue with me. She is in over her head but did comp that meal and my wife's.
We have loved everything about Railcar until our latest visit. Our party of 8, there for a birthday, was at the restaurant for nearly 2.5 hours due to poor, slow service. Our drinks were warm (several times), we easily waited 30-45 minutes just to place our orders, we didn’t receive plates or silverware without asking. Please note: it wasn’t busy to the best of our knowledge, several empty tables. 4 members of our party ordered the special (printed on the menu); we were informed they were out and only 3 servings were available, and those servings of meat were extremely fatty and over-cooked. I’d like to note that some of us were extremely pleased with the food; our appetizers were exquisite and the salmon was heavenly. But the overall visit was so poor, the quality of food was overshadowed.
It almost seemed like new ownership or management was in place during this last visit, as ALL of our previous visits were wonderful. Unfortunately, we may not return to find out.
The Brunch was absolutely delish! I had the Eggs Benedict but it wasn't like a "normal" one. They seem to put there own twist on the dishes. Would love to go back again to try more of the menu! Very friendly staff! Also LOVED the menu wasn't overwhelming so it was easy to chose something.
This place is very surprising. From the outside, it looks Ike a sports bar or something. I’d never stop if I were just driving by. The inside is really nice though. I love the Railcar look in the main dining room. That is pretty cool.
Everything we ordered was really good. We had the popcorn chicken and it was very tasty. A very tiny bit of spice...not much at all but still very good. The pretzel bread they bring is really tasty as well.
We had the schnitzel, saltimbocca and gnocchi for dinner. So, the gnocchi “dinner” is a bit of a joke. This is an appetizer size portion...at least of pasta. There are 3 meatballs which is nice and they were moist and flavorful but there were a total of 5 gnocchi in the dish....no joke. I counted because at first glance, I only saw 2. I thought they may have actually forgotten to put them in there. My fellow diners even commented that it looked like I had gotten no pasta. Most places don’t give you a ton of gnocchi as I order it often but at least a dozen or so. The ratio of meatball to pasta was very off. That being said everyone loved their entrees and the rest were all very good portion size.
I love the Railcar, I especially love to take friends from out of town, it’s a great dining experience and it’s such a surprise sitting in that little shopping area. The service is awesome, all of the staff are friendly and accommodating. It is truly my favorite place!
Our waiter was perfectly Personal. He knew the menu very well. We started our meal with the Short Rib flatbread. I had the French Onion soup which was very good. My wife had the Scallops. She asked to substitute the Risotto for Vegetables. The Scallops were seasoned and cooked perfectly. I had the Prime Rib. The Au Jaus was the best I’ve had anywhere. I believe the waiter said there were seven spices added to the broth. And for dessert was the carrot cake which is beyond anything I’ve had before. The best part of Railcar is the consistency each time we dine there. Not sure if there’s a better place to eat in Omaha.
I was hoping this would be really, really good based on reviews. It was okay. My husband and I ordered the prime rib, his a 16 oz am mine a 10 oz. When we finally got them, they looked identical. We addressed this with a server, and then a manager, she said the cost would be changed to a 10 oz on the bill. It wasn't, so had to mention it again before it came off the bill.
My husband and I went for a late lunch on a Saturday. I had the Railcar roast chicken salad and my husband had the Cubano. To be honest - both dishes were okay, not great. The chicken was dry and the salad - which was supposed to have onions and heirloom grape tomatoes - mostly was just lettuce. The dressing was pretty good. My husband said that while the Cubano was pretty good it was pretty salty due to the prosciutto. We've been here before for appetizers for dinner and the appetizers are amazing as well as the cocktails.
