Rafele Ratings and Reviews
We had a large group and it was our first time there. I wanted to go in support of a donation that had been made to a foundation that my husband and I support. The Christmas decor was beautiful and we got seated in a private little corner. The trouble was that our waitress didn’t seem to want to be bothered with us. We had questions and she answered very quickly and had a thick accent so it was hard for us to understand. Since we were a group of 8 the gratuity was already added and our group doesn’t have a lot of drinkers for various reasons, so I guess she didn’t feel the need to work for her tip. Pretty disappointing. We would have liked to bless her with more like we did at other establishments in the city. Probably won’t return.
There were five of us coming from the theater. We had zucchini blossoms, fried artichoke, burrata and Melania for apps. They were all superb. We moved into pasta with pork jowl, fish stew , calamari, margarita pizza and plain spaghetti. All but the fish stew were super. The fish stew was really a matter of taste because someone else liked it very much.
Deserts- cheesecake maybe best in NY or close. Chocolate lava, I’ve had before but it doesn’t matter it was also something available lots of places delicious.
We were all thrilled tho two of us were there before. It’s an excellent restaurant. We came in a bit after 5. We left a little after seven and the line was outside and they were about to be packed. So make a reservation.
Service couldn’t be better nor can the value.
Excellent authentic Italian dishes. Convivial atmosphere. Not pretentious.
Pastas and other entrees very well executed and portions abundant.
Complimentary eggplant with the bread basket is a nice and delicious signature touch.
Pricing ok. Service was friendly but uneven. Would definitely return.
I picked this restaurants as one of our special nights while in NYC. We arrived early for an early dinner. We were the only table in the restaurant. The service was OK at best as it was hard to get suggestions and refills. (BTW no free refills on Soda). Service was just Blah. They were not rude or mean but definitely did not make me or my family feel comfortable. It was strange. I thought the food was good but not great. There were some things we ordered that were good like the pork cheek pasta, calamari, artichoke salad. Other items like the fried pizza was not very good.
This restaurant is out of this world! We just returned to the US from Italy, so it suffices to say the food at Rafele did not disappoint. We ordered the tagliolini ai funghi and the lamb ragu. The service was excellent, friendly waiters, relaxing ambience, very impressive cuisine. Thank you.
We dined at Rafele to celebrate my husband's 40th birthday. We had eaten here last summer and enjoyed our meal. We were not as impressed the second time around... There were several large groups which made the service slower than we would have liked. The meal itself was just okay - my husband ordered a steak and didn't eat a good part of it because it was so fatty.
I had put in my notes on OpenTable that we were celebrating my husband's birthday, and when we asked for the check they brought him a piece of cheesecake with a candle in it, which I didn't ask for but thought was a nice touch... until the check came and I realized they had CHARGED ME FOR IT!!! We were so annoyed and just wanted to leave, so I ended up paying the check without arguing. But, next time we'll pick someplace else to celebrate!
The best Italian meal I've had in a long time. The meatballs were melt-in-your-mouth amazing, and crispy artichoke a bit too crispy, but very tasty. For entrees we had the branzino and lamb ragu paparadelle-- both were well-prepared, fresh & delicious. Highly recommended. Nice intimate atmosphere and easy location in the Village.
Despite an unexpected delay, Rafele was able to save our reserved table and serve us a delicious repast with suggestions of which disches were most expediitous and which compimented one another. The wine selection was perfect both to coincide with our dinner as well as to relieve our stress. The difficulty was eliminated as we shared an excellent meal and arrived at theatre in a tiely fashion.
Excellent meal during a recent trip to NYC. Loved the family owned feeling of the restaurant and the genuine authenticity of the food and the staff. Our meals were absolutely delicious, the service was perfect and the atmosphere was great. Love this place and will look forward to returning on our next trip to the City.
Be careful when you book this restaurant, it is wonderful BUT they were going to put our table of six in the basement. The basement s not where you want to go! They only had one table occupied down there while upstairs was bustling and being a great night all the windows were open and it was great upstairs. We noticed that the community table was open and asked if we could have that. Fortunately we were able to get it, it made the difference between a wonderful night or a possible dreadful one!
Great value on authentic southern italian cuisine
Gnocchi was fresh and tasty
Lamb Ragu was great
Appetizer of stuffed zucchini was greasy and not a good choice
Staff was pleasant but very pushy to get us to order and finish
Place was not busy enough to warrant this attitude
