Stumbled upon this neighborhood gem a few years ago while visiting. We now dine there whenever we come to the city. The food is amazing. Look forward to the octopus appetizer and sharing a homemade pasta. In the summer the outdoor patio is a great place to dine. Inside is rustic and energetic.
Our evening started out pretty well. Our waitress was friendly and helped us put together a nice variety of dishes. The food was fine - not outstanding, but tasty enough. Then someone decided to squeeze a table for six right next to us even though it was still early and the restaurant wasn't that busy yet. There mere inches between us and them. It quickly turned unpleasant. The waitress begin trotting around us to take their order, bring their drinks etc. so it felt very chaotic. And every time one of them gestured, they practically hit my friend in the face. With so many other options around there, I don't think I'd go back.
Phenomenal on all fronts. The overall experience is why I come to Rafele whenever possible if I am in New York.
What a find! The food was great. The service was friendly and very attentive and professional.
It took an hour for us to receive our appetizers and 45 minute more before we received our dinner. I’ve have been to this restaurant many times before and the revive is always ‘relaxed’ but this was really not acceptable. Good thing us thstvthr good
Great food! Service was a bit on the slow side but to be expected when restaurant has a very small kitchen. I would highly recommend!
Excellent way to spend our last night in NYC!
Luca our waiting was very good and his recommendation of the fish stew was spot on!!
Our favorite restaurant in nyc. Great service and good.
Among the best Italian in the City. Excellent service and value.
Between loud patrons, clanging dishes, and piped in music the place was a noisy, chaotic place. (You call the highest noise rating “energetic”. I call it loud and uncomfortable.)
When I told the waiter I know they are rating restaurants on noise level now, he told me I could find somewhere quieter if I wanted to. The hostess was kind enough to turn the music down for me; however, that was my first and last visit because the food did not make up for the noise.
Rafele had been one of my favorite West Village restaurants but I was terribly disappointed by this recent experience. A friend and I ordered two appetizers and an entree. The appetizers were not nearly as good as I remembered them being in the past. And after we finished them, we sat for perhaps an hour without getting the entree. When we asked the waitress, she said, "You told me you wanted it later." That wasn't true. She then claimed it was up, came back to tell us it would soon be ready and we told her to forget it. The cappuccino was almost cold. They presented us with a free piece of cake to compensate, but the service, food and attitude caused a seriously negative reaction.
Fabulous food. Great atmosphere. Fun, casual place to dine.
Always a great meal, excellent service, my favorite Italian in the city!
Loved the atmosphere. Very energetic! Pasta was to die for. Very light and tasty. And they don’t rush you. They let you take your time and enjoy the evening.
Ate here 3 years ago and always wanted to come back. Nice to see it was everything we remembered as the food was wonderful. Many times your return trip doesn't live up to the memories but Rafele didn't disappoint, the food and service were excellent. It won't take us 3 years to come back again, will be back soon!
The staff and food was amazing! Couldn’t have asked for a better meal in NYC. And the prices were very reasonable for the city.
The quality of the food is excellent, the menu has variety and it’s easy to adapt to dietary restrictions.. The staff is attentive without being overbearing.
5 of us had a great dinner the other night here. It's in my Greenwich Village neighborhood, and well worth visiting again and again. The menu is full of italian specialties, nicely priced, with a good wine selection and full bar. The noise level is nicely moderate, and the atmosphere is cozy and comfortable. Recommended!
Rafele was an awesome find. Location is great for people watching with a pretty street side patio. Subway does run underneath, but kind of adds to the charm. That aside, the food is amazing. The lamb ragu papardelle is still in my mid after 3 days. My husband had the mushroom and truffle pasta and everyone who tasted it loved it. The branzino was perfectly prepared, and the gnocchi were prefect pillows. All the apps were delicious as well. Try the pizzettas. If you are stuck for a summer wine have there savignon blanc. Well priced an perfectly crisp for a warm summer night
Our party of six had a wonderful evening with tasty food and good wine. Menu has many choices with something for everyone.
Some of the best Italian food I have had in Manhattan
Consistently fun, good value and excellent ambience and food
If you want a great authentic Italian meal come to this restaurant. Never disappointing. Great service from staff.
A neighbor gem in a city where there are so many fine restaurants.
One of my favorite restaurants down town . Super nice people and consistently great food.
We have been here before and just love it. We sat outside tonight and it was beautiful. We had the margarita pizza, shaved artichoke salad, mushroom pasta, pasta with red sauce, and biscotti. Everything was delicious. The PTO drink was amazing. The service was great. We had our dog with us and that was not a problem. Cannot recommend highly enough. We will be back.
The food was good, nothing spectacular, but what bothered me was that that the lights were way too bright for dinner time. Spoiled the ambiance, I felt like I was eating in a cafeteria. Our server was very pleasant.
Service fabulous. My go to restaurant
Rafele was, as usual, a great food experience. Ingredients are fresh, the food thoughtfully prepared, the wine list excellent, not too long, not too short and reasonably priced.
We've been here several times and always enjoyed it. This time was a little disappointing due to less than attentive service. Never asked if we were satisfied or happy with out meals, and after watching her talk on the phone for an extended period, I got up and fetched our wine bottle instead of waiting. She didn't seem to notice.
I'm not sure how this restaurant gets good reviews. We wanted to like this place given all the good reviews, but the food was really poor to mediocre and the service was abysmal. The ingredients didn't taste fresh or high quality. The sauces lacked depth and flavor. Even the so-called homemade pasta was not particularly good and even the appetizers were bland and tasteless. I would compare the food to the type of Italian food that you would expect to get from a not so good local pizza takeout. Not refined or well-executed with very cheap ingredients. And, if the food wasn't bad enough, the service was utterly lacking as well. When we arrived at the restaurant the hostess didn't acknowledge us for at least 5 minutes and we overheard one saying to the other "Who are these people?" And then they put us in the darkest corner of the restaurant even though we had reservations and would not let us move to another free table in a better part of the dining room. We were with a group of only Asian women, so it's not uncommon that the host/hostesses will put us in the worst table on the assumption that we won't complain. But, then we noticed that they put another group of Asians in the same dark corner as well. Luckily, the other group of Asians was smart enough to leave. Wish we had done the same. My assessment would be that this is a tourist trap that has sub-par food and doesn't even have the decency to compensate by providing good service. Utterly sub par experience.
It is definitely a great date spot. The place is beautiful, the food is good, and it’s not too loud so my date and I were able to hold a conversation. I would definitely go back!
Rafele's was superb, as it always is from food to service to wine to atmosphere. Perfecto.
Excellent meal! Delicious octopus
Everyone loved the appetizers, meals and dessert. Service was excellent. Would definitely go back.
We ate at Rafele on a food tour and just had to go back. This weekend we returned with friends for dinner and we were not disappointed! The atmosphere was warm, the food was great and our waiter was attentive and personable. I highly recommend it! Will definitely go back!
Luca was amazing. Best and most interesting cheesecake I have ever had.
What a great meal!!! And the Cheescake by far is my dessert. So good.
Rafele is excellent as always. Very good pasta, great taste. Arancini, ravioli, tagliolini, the ricota cake, good wine list, everything is outstanding!!
Tomasso was the acting manager & my server. He was a terrible server; completely ignored me. I had to flag down other employees to help me & finally asked for the manager, which was unfortunately him that night. My pizza was soggy & inedible. The place is pretty but terrible.
