We have walked by this place so many times and, on a friends suggestion, who finally had dinner there. The ambiance was warm and comfortable and not overly trendy. The food was authentic and very delicious. We could all hear ourselves talk and we had some hearty laughs because of the easy going atmosphere. All 5 of us had nothing but praise and in a heartbeat we decided to have our next monthly dinner there. Thanks for a perfect evening! NYC could use a lot more restaurants like Rafele.
Great traditional Italian dishes in a fun and lively environment. High quality food at a reasonable price point.
Great find along the dreary 7th Ave South.
Fantastic take on standard Italian fare and good wine selection. Come alone or with a group it can handle them all. Friendly and helpful wait staff
I've enjoyed prior visits more, but it remains a good local spot. Bar seating has nice ambiance, bartender didn't seem very happy. We really liked sitting outside for our meal during the unseasonably warm evening, but the large table next to us had loud screaming children which the adults were antagonizing to continue. Food is solid - brick oven pizza and homemade pastas never disappoint.
Great atmosphere and the food was amazing. We will be back!
Our 2nd time here and we will return. Very good had the SCHIZZETTO
Spaghetti, clams, scallops, cherry tomatoes. 19
TAGLIOLINI AI FUNGHI
With mixed mushrooms, truffle paté , Grana Padano. 18
Love sitting outside. Possibly too noisy for us (76 yrs) inside
The best Italian in nyc for me. Quite a statement I know. Classically and expertly prepared food. Friendly, unpretentious service. Wine list is solid. The prices are so reasonable. I am not a cheesecake or dessert fan but their cheesecake is insane and just made Food and Wines top 15 in the world.
We had an amazing night! The wine was wonderful and the food was perfectly portioned. I am planning on taking my mother here for her 60th birthday.
Awesome as usual. Great birthday dinner. Tasting menu is amazing and so much food. Thanks!
Always fresh, great food well prepared.
more than a neighborhood joint: classy, excellent food, well run and even quiet enough for a conversation.
the service is attentive, helpful and timely.
This is my new go to Italian spot in the city. The food was absolutely fantastic. We had the eggplant appetizers, stuffed pizza triangles, pork cheek pasta, lamb ragu, and the cheesecake dessert. Everything was absolutely amazing. 100%. The dessert which was their special cheesecake was unreal. I have never had a better cheesecake in my life! If you’re considering going here, just stop and book. Go. Go. Go.
This restaurant, which is a short distance from the Cherry Lane Theater, specializes in homemade pasta. It is casual in its decor, but friendly and accommodating. The food is good and, notably, the noise level is low -- at keast relatively early on a rainy Tuesday night.
absolutely delish! went to brunch with my 2 aunts visiting from boston. we loved everything! really cant go wrong with anything on the menu.
Pretty good food, but our experience wasn’t the best. Chose Rafele because the Cherry Lane Theatre (close by) listed it as their “restaurant partner,” but when we asked the waiter about that, he said he had no idea what we were talking about...and we had to wait so long for our orders that we rushed through our dinners to get to an 8:00 curtain. The best thing we ate was the warm bread with vegetable compote served before we ordered. Spinach ravioli was very good, but not heated through....cool around the edges. Liked the space a lot, and would try again.
Food is always excellent. Have been going regularly for years.
At times gets very busy. One of our parties first course was completely forgotten. We canceled. Not an issue they are very accommodating
Great restaurant with amazing food!!! Excellent service and very accommodating with special requests!!!!
Good service, excellent food, we taste pastas. I think that is their specialty and they do a good job,
This place never disappoints. Great food, service, and atmosphere. I will continue to eat here, and recommend it to friends and family.
The bread and eggplant put on the table is not to be missed. We ate outside so it was quiet. We will be back again- Noise level inside sounded bearable for us- we are over 70. Charming ambience and great service. try the ricotta cheese cake - simple not too heavy and no citron. It's large -so share.
Another outstanding culinary experience! Be sure to have the best cheesecake in NYC!
We enjoyed our brunch as it was tasty and nicely served. Its proximity to the Cherry Lane Theater was a plus.
Great restaurant. Good and service is outstanding.
Poor service. Took over 30 minutes to get water and place orders for drinks. Then another 15 minutes for bread and to get the drinks. Not good.
Always great food and service. I love this place!
Great food- our waiter was a bit much and he disappeared near the end of our meal. Will definitely be going back.
I wanted a place to celebrate a birthday of my best friend. He loves Italian food so I decided to look for something in the neighborhood. Rafele was the best choice I made! Before even getting there, I called the restaurant to ask if his family from abroad can deliver a gift basket and they were very kind and responsive, when we arrived to the restaurant we were surprised that the table was nicely decorated and in a perfect spot.
Our server for the night was Tomasso who was absolutely phenomenal! his recommendations were spot on and his service was seamless - Thank you!!
as for the food, We decided to go for the chef's tasting menu and long story short, it is my favorite Italian menu in the city by far! the portions, the flavors the diversity and the attentiveness to dietary restrictions are not something I have encountered anywhere else before. so thank you Rafele for this experience, We for sure will be back!
We can never have enough good things to say about Rafele... our go to spot twice or thrice a week. The food is delicious, and the staff makes you feel like family.
Had the pasta with mushroom, it was one of the best pastas I’ve ever had!
This an amazing West Village Italian restaurant- known for homemade pasta and fantastic appetizers and desserts. We started with house made burrata, then shared an octopus appetizer. We wrapped it up sharing pasta with wild boar. If you are having wines by the glass they are very nice about letting you taste them. Great service and a fantastic evening. Many of the folds that work there are from Itsly!
Had an early dinner with a friend. Great Italian food. Fresh ingredients, good portions. If you are in the neighborhood worth the visit.
Really enjoyed a delicious meal, a great addition to our neighbourhood!
We absolutely love Rafele's. Would recommend it to everyone.
terrific italian food. come for homemade pasta, although the roast chicken was crazy good.
I hosted my birthday dinner here and it was absolutely amazing! The food was delicious and it was the perfect setting for a celebration. Grazie Mille!
Very understaffed on Sunday night, August 26, which made for extremely slow service/food delivery, etc.
Rafele is not overly inventive, nor is it talked about by foodie insiders, it's not owned by a famous restauranteur nor does it boast a celebrity chef with cookbooks to his name. But don't let any of that fool you. Rafele is possibly one of the best Italian restaurants in Manhattan, recommended to us (native New Yorkers) by friends from Milan. Rather than rely on unique preparations and inventive recipes, Rafele relies on the freshest possible ingredients for its truly amazing cuisine. Yes, you may have had prosciutto and melon before, but this is a combination of melon at its peak wrapped with obviously high-end Italian imported prosciutto, offering a contrast between the sweetness of the melon, saltiness of the prosciutto while blending the two textures, the potentially prosaic appetizer is raised to exalted heights. This is but an example. Every detail, every antipasto, insalate, pizza, pasta and entree works as well. Don't go here. Don't make Rafele popular. It will become more difficult for us to book a table. We can't wait to go back.
Yum food great space.
