Racks Downtown Eatery + Tavern Ratings and Reviews
I think they were having an off night. The drink service was very slow, took forever to get our drinks after ordering at our table (each time), and the waiter didn't come back to check on us or give us an update or apology or to check on how food was after it was dropped at table... so my crab cakes were barely warm by time I got lemons for them (had to get the hostess to get me lemons because he was nowhere to be found.). The food was good—didn't love the ahi tuna tacos & I thought that'd be a winner, but I liked the other fish tacos we got, crab cake was mostly crab which is awesome, the Brussel Sprouts side was great, and the lobster/truffle mac-n-cheese was delish.
Everything was just okay. Our waiter brought our appetizer after our dinner. 👎 But the food was good. Please! Someone get rid of those awful red lights on the back patio!! They made my dinner look very unappetizing so I ended up feeling a little queasy afterwards.
It was a fine place to take our teenaged grandson who is on a college break. (A major improvement, he told us, from college food.) The menu had sufficient variety to satisfy everyone. Service was a little off on a jam-packed Saturday night. We started with oysters and the waiter suggested a sampler of a half-dozen varieties, which was wonderful. However, drink glasses (water, soda) were empty for too long. And our grandson's risotto was delivered long after he'd finished his steak. As a result, he only picked at the risotto. All in all, a pleasant dining experience for the three of us, but there was room for improvement.
Our waiter was missing most of the night. It took 45 minutes just to get the pretzel bread to the table. The food was very oily as seen in the Brussels sprouts and extremely salty. I literally had indirection after the meal. All 4 of us couldn't believe how bad our service was. I had to get up numerous times to ask for our waiter.
When first seated table very small, and very loud inside.entrees took long to receive. Big problem was food portions very small like for children. And very overpriced
Won't be going back to Racks in Mizner Park any time soon, When looking for a place to eat pass on Racks in Mizner Park. 1 Star.
Tough time of year to judge a restaurant but the staff seemed to be overwhelmed. The hostesses bickered in front of my wife and I, the waiters were circling the dining room with drinks that they didn't know where to deliver. And I believe the manager farted in the dining room. The food is OK but I miss the Mizner Park of 2003.
The Good over Bad . The sushi rolls were fantastic even though Lobster roll platter was $36. Chicken Bolognese is not what it used to be. Skimpy auce was more acidic, there weren't meat chunks as in past, & cork screw noodles don't fit - they overpower the dish. Don't start making cheap cutbacks. Don't skimp on the bread rolls- should be replenished automatically without having to ask & be forgotten [especially with pasta].
Our evening was a rollercoaster of mishaps. The service was very poor. We were seated and waited 15 minutes before our server came over and asked us if we would like any water or a cocktail. Then he disappeared for another 15 minutes before bring the drinks and he arrived without water. He asked us if we wanted bread and then never brought that either. He had no knowledge of the menu and was a bit arrogant. When the food finally did arrive it was not piping hot. Wait staff needs more training !
We have eaten here several times at the different bars, as well as tables in the dining room. The food is always good! And so is the service. However, This particular night we brought another couple with us from out of town. We were initially sat in a corner table in the back.. However not even before or appetizers came out a couple came and was sat near us .. At this point the whole dining room was still quite empty, the problem was they had a dog, and it smelled of dog. We were surprised at how the couple didn't ask if we minded or have a care to anyone but themselves. We asked to move and even then they did not apologize or say a word they knew we were moving because of them. The manager came by and said unfortunately they have to let these people in if they say their pet is a "Service Animal" clearly this ugly, smelly dog, in a pink dress was doing no service except stinking up the place. Our food was delicious, but we walked away with the story that unfortunately trumps the food. I think if you have a service animal you sit outside ! PERIOD this is South Florida so it's not like it's snowing out there and if your a little hot then oh well maybe that's the price you pay for thinking it's ok to bring your smelly dog to a restaurant which in turn ruins others night out .
Once we got past the rude manager and got seated where we were told we could sit everything was fine. The bartender had checked with the hostess and he told us we could sit in the main dining area. When the manager tried to take us to the patio I told him we'd just been told we could sit inside. He argued with me about this then acquiesced. Not very nice to argue with your customers - especially since there were available tables.
We have been to Racks before, and enjoyed it. However, this time we went with friends, and were surprised how expensive it was. A lot of the menu items were marked "Market Price". They turned out to be $49 and $66. Maybe we should have asked before ordering, but I don't see Racks as a super high end restaurant. On a different note, they have a great Happy Hour.
The food was excellent as always, the service was very polite and friendly unfortunetley the meal was rushed, our appetizers and entre were served at the same time.
Once I pointed this out, they were very quick to correct the situation however it does make the meal a little uncomfortable
Outdoor seating and ambiance were just right
I would definetely return
We haven't dined here in a while because of poor service last time, but decided to give it another try. No one came to our table for about 15 minutes after we were seated. Everything took a very long time to come out. Our server seemed to forget us, never looking over to our table. Eventually, someone else (a manager?) came over and apologized for the wait. He told us our dinner would be coming out shortly but the potatoes would be another 20 minutes. We told him to skip the potatoes and it still took another 15 minutes to get our dinner. The food was good. After dinner, we had to ask someone to clean our plates away. We were offered a free dessert but we had been there way too long already, so we passed. Not going back
Service was terrible, food was not good and overpriced. When we told them that we didn't like the caesar salad and mashed potatoes they left them on the bill. Caesar salad had too much garlic and black pepper on it. We ordered one and they sent two. We talked to the manager and he was not helpful at all either. Very disappointed.
