Racks Downtown Eatery + Tavern Ratings and Reviews
We've eaten here several times and this time was such a disappointment. The server was very difficult to hear...very low voice. My family and I were there on a Tuesday night and it was not busy....yet they crammed the five of us into a four person booth while there were MANY tables around us to accommodate five easily. We had to ask WHEN our appetizers would be arriving after not receiving them for 30 minutes. Then, when our meals arrived just a few minutes later the steak my daughter ordered was VERY overcooked (she had asked for a MED filet and it was served WELL DONE) and my husband and I had asked for the trout and instead of us each receiving our own meal they SPLIT one dish between the two of us...very strange since we had ONLY requested to SHARE our salad NOT our main course. Overall I don't think we will dine here again....
We like Racks, but this wasn't our favorite visit
something was a little off
having said that, our friends loved their ribs; my salmon was good and the mashed potatoes were great
for some weird reason, my husbands Caesar salad came with dinner and not before
the waiter (nice guy otherwise) seemed surprised that my husband rejected it and wasn't particularly apologetic
one other small criticism- the only tea on the menu was a flavored one (peach something or other)
we'll go back though as we really like Mizner and enjoy the energy of Racks
Waitstaff was iffy at best..had 3 different people and hard to flag a waiter down.
Shared the meatloaf ( 10 oz) and ordered side dish of mushrooms and onions. asked for extra gravy for meatloaf since we were sharing..late in coming and mushrooms arrived cold with no onions. they were remade and still no onions ( why list on menu mushrooms and onions if you don't put them in dish?)
Dessert was ice cream sandwich--half was choc chip cookie ( hard as a rock) and other side was brownie ( hard as a rock) as you bit into it, ice cream all squished out..POOR choice for dessert..messy and hard to share. Would have preferred to go across the street to Sloanes Ice cream in Mizner with no mess. Probably won't be back as food not worth the price except for happy hour.
I made a reservation for 8:00pm on a Saturday and was not seated until 9:00pm when I checked in they told me I had atleast a 25 minute and was told they could not predict how long someone would sit a a table and that my reservation doesn’t give me any priority . We asked to talked to the manager 2 times and was ignored very disappointed and would not return for this reason. Drinks expensive and not worth less than half the wine glass they poured . Service good , main dishes limited if you don’t eat meat
My birthing is coming up very soon and I went on the lookout for a cool, trendy place to have dinner, with great Mac and cheese. I came across Racks and after looking at the menu and venue pictures I thought it was a perfect fit, and man was I right. Racks was everything and more. The decor inside and outside was amazing and looked so cool. The food was outstanding and so delicious. We had a reservation but had to wait like 20 minutes for a table which is understandable since how busy it was so we got a drink at the bar before hand. The bartender had to have been new cause she didn’t even know how to make a tequila sunrise or Manhattan which are pretty simple and standard drinks in my option. Moving on to dinner, all of the food was top notch! I enjoyed every last bite. The meatloaf was a little overwhelming with thyme flavor but other than that everything was amazing. 5 stars I will definitely be back.
We had a 7:30 reservation. Sat at 8 pm. Entrees came midway thru appetizers and so they had to take them back to the kitchen.
When they served the entrees again, they were no longer hot. I spoke to the manager and told him the food was not hot. He arranged for the food to be redone. This took about 40 mins. This was now 9:15 pm. One entree was piping hot. The other entree was not.
Customer service was abysmal. Service recovery was lacking. Will not go back there.
Had a New Year celebration which turned out a complete disaster starting from 40 min wait for the table, inattentive service, not able to hear each other due to noise level, champagne tasted like a rubber.
Couldn't be any worse than that. The only positive DJ was good lol
Worst experience I have had in a restaurant in over 40 years. To give a simple account, chef Mathew was completely rude and out of control to our server and yanked a plate out of her and then started to argue with her and my family at my table. He needs to be fired! He is not cut out for this job! The server told the assistant manager who was appalled and asked me to call the corp office. He should have sent the chef home immediately. He also needs to be coached on how to deal with his staff.
The portion sizes compared to prices are not what I expected. 4 Shrimp = $17
Service was EXTREMELY slow. The waiter we had spent more time chatting up some females at the bar versus taking care of our table.
The bread was brought late to the table and was cold.
Medium Well Steak and Medium Rare Steak were cooked exactly the same.
We were five people on New Year's eve at 6PM. The positive was we were seated on time outside. The weather was perfect and the noise level much lower than inside. Always nice sitting outside in good weather in Mizner Park. The service was below standard. We never got extra plates or glasses we asked for until the last part of the meal. The food was pretty good. I shared the flounder which is enough for two and a large bowl of soup. As mentioned earlier the asked for extra plates came after the soup was finished.
We visited this restaurant during peak season (on the Friday night before New Years Eve). While management might dismiss the events described below due to how busy they were, the truth is that they made it worse by packing in as many people as possible to the point where they were outmatched.
The meal began with us being seated outside in an unheated area immediately adjacent to a path where valet workers regularly sprinted by us. Even though we made these reservations 6 weeks ago, we were told that there were no tables available inside. After asking the waiter and the manager twice to move a heat lamp near us, they finally did so, which at least allowed half of our table not to freeze. I had to leave to buy sweatshirt at a nearby store just to make it through the meal.
Each time the food arrived (when it did), there was some mistake. Tuna tacos did not arrive in the quantity ordered, a skirt steak first showed up as a filet mignon, and then as a pizza, and then as salmon and finally that dish arrived with Brussel sprouts (which weren't ordered). When the well traveled steak arrived, the earlier delivered meals were all cold. The waiter then disappeared so that it was impossible to get ketchup for the burger or salt for poorly seasoned pork chop until they were even colder. The pork chop itself was overcooked and plain and the waiter was totally wrong when he indicated that it did not need to be ordered with sauce.
The delivery of drinks was equally problematic. Our daughter ordered a glass of white wine before the entrees were ordered, the drink did not arrive until after she was finished with her entree and only after she had to ask the waiter twice and the manager once to find her long lost drink. Getting the check was equally difficult and time consuming, adding an explanation point to one of the worst meals of the year.
To those who choose restaurants based upon how crowded it is, that formula will lead you astray here.
Two of the meals were ok. The sushi was not good and very, very skimpy for the price charged. The meatloaf was not only salty, but awful. Our server had to be reminded several times to bring our drinks and bread to the table. Food was not hot when we finally got ir
