Overall everything was great. There was a price difference of about $10 for some items on the menu vs what was listed on their own website. Plus some items like the baby octopus did not exist and were substituted with octopus tentacle instead. Made me feel baited on an enjoyable night.
As could be expected, the North End is packed on a Saturday night. We arrived at Rabia to find a long line of people waiting; fortunately, we had a reservation, so we didn't have to wait long for our table. The place is small, and the tables are jammed in pretty tightly; don't think you could fit any more tables. The result is that we were essentially dining elbow-to-elbow with a very nice couple (who appeared to be on a first date).
The food was good, but not exceptional. The wine was good, and not too expensive (that's a rarity in Boston).
so overall, nothing terribly bad, but not very good either. Kind of 'meh...
I picked Rabia's because of the picture on Open Table and the reviews. We were on time for our reservation and were seated promptly. The service was a bit slow initially but not tot he point of being "where did our waiter go?" slow.
We split a Caprese salad. The portion was just right.
We both ordered our mains off the special menu. My wife had the red Apple Ravioli. I had the seafood medley off of the special menu. Both were prepared well and delicious.
Including the 4 glasses of house wine our total bill about $80 not including the tip.
I recommend for you to try Rabia's and we will be back again.
My friends and I really enjoyed our meal. They loved the oysters and the main dishes were excellent as well. They were visiting from San Diego and several times said, "Wow, this is really great - I'm so glad you chose this place". So kudos to Rabias and thanks for impressing my friends!
Overall I'd give it a B-. I expected more based on other reviews. Good not great overall. Service was too showy, spotty and light on substance. For example the waiter recommended a wine which included a way-too-long speech about its superiority and then didn't have it. Food met expectations based on menu descriptions, and waiter speak but just. Fun, interesting room and retro ambiance but the restroom is to be avoided if possible. Misses high-end standards by a long iron.
Will not return. The entire place needs to be cleaned,especially the bathrooms. The staff were not very attentive and the room was uncomfortably warm. We did not want to stay but ordered the Antipasto appetizer before leaving. The appetizer included a large serving of marinated vegetables that were extremely salty, however the Portobello mushrooms and artichokes were ok.
Rabia's has well-prepared food and fantastic service. When we went, the place was mostly empty, so we were seated immediately. The prices are expensive, but we had a very generous groupon.
Great free bread with so-so oil and tapenade.
We tried the oysters from the raw bar. They were shucked to order and served over ice with the usual toppings. They were delicious. However, the waiter did not describe the oysters served nor even point out which were which.
Next we tried the lobster rolls. I had the hot buttered lobster roll and my wife special ordered the same, but without the butter. Both were perfectly prepared, although the roll with the buttered lobster got a little soggy.
The wait staff was not very friendly nor were they responsive to our needs. The food was very disappointing. Four people had seafood that was overcooked and poorly seasoned, two had chicken that was dry, chewy, and tough, and one had meatballs that were not seasoned well and had a curious texture/consistency. Overall it was not a great experience and I would not recommend it to anyone.
Great food and location; limited bar, limited wine by the glass; no parking or valet; had to drive around looking for parking and call the restaurant twice to ask where we could park; they didn't tell me they had to validate my parking ticket, so it cost $16 instead of $3 without a validation.
