There were very few patrons the evening we went for dinner. Another party of 3 persons was seated just 3 feet from us even though there were over a dozen free tables throughout the restaurant where they could have been seated that would have given them and us more space and privacy. Otherwise, it was a very positive experience.
This is my fourth time at Raaga and they never fail to have wonderful food and delightful service. We love the ambiance, inside and outside. The inner "dome" table is really nice for family events and the dome helps those who are hard of hearing be able to participate in the conversation as the acoustics are wonderful. Definitely one of our favorite restaurants in the Triangle - and we are foodies.
My third dinner at Raaga. Introduced to my wife on date night tonight. We showed up a little early but we were seated right away. We really enjoyed the dinner and thought the food was fantastic. Waitress was pleasant and attentive. One of my favorite Indian restaurants in the triangle.
the food is great. the service is inconsistent. sometimes staff and servers are super friendly and accommodating. other times, they act as if operating a restaurant is an afterthought to something else. meal was extremely slow coming this time. additionally, a party was being held on the patio and music for the party included very heavy base which was not a pleasant accompaniment to our meal. it would be great if Raaga to elevate their service to match the quality of the food which is great.
I have been eating at Raaga for a few years, and always thought it an excellent choice for Indian cuisine. Their garlic nan remains very good. However, the last 3 times, spaced over the last year or two, the service has been so fair-to-poor that I will no longer recommend it, nor eat there. One slow evening the bartender was serving us. We sat near to the bar, and could see he had nothing to do, but he seemed to forget what we requested, forgot to check on us, just really didn't make us feel we were a priority. I was disappointed, but willing to write off one experience. June 1 we suggested Raaga to friends for lunch. After 20 minutes with water only, I finally stood up and retrieved menus. Our beer arrived 15-20 minutes after ordered; ice for the lukewarm tap water they had served, took 40 minutes. The food took a while, and while acceptable, it is hard to overcome bad service and enjoy my food. Service was simply mediocre, even though the server was friendly. I don't remember the details, but there was one other time where the service was border-line. Does anyone manage this place? What's going on? I am so disappointed. I miss the Raaga that used to be excellent.
We enjoy Indian food and were not disappointed!Went for a graduation event and had several vegetarians in the party;plenty of options for everyone!They have a large selection of beers and varied cocktails.The cauliflower and fried okra appetizers were amazing.The lamb and chicken dishes were tender with just the right amount of heat and spice.Would highly recommend.
We had been to the restaurant before and liked it, but this experience was enough to make me never want to return. Service was extremely slow. We eventually cancelled our order for wine once we had completely finished eating before they could bring it. No one cleared our table of appetizer plates, etc. No one ever apologized for the slow and inattentive service. Food was mediocre and over-priced (a dumpling dish with four ping pong ball-sized vegetable dumplings in sauce for $18...).
We have been to this place lot of times in the last few years, and it's with deep regret I must say that the quality of the food and especially the service has gone down quite a bit. We didn't even get the second glass of water. That level of service is unusual for this place. Hopefully, it gets better...
We hadn't been to Raaga in a year or so and we were disappointed. The food was OK, but nothing more. Paneer makhani was good, but the chicken korma was bland and tasteless and the chicken was overcooked. The samosas were one-note and oily. Papadums were good, but roti was tough and unpleasant. Service was adequate, but distant and checked-out. The restaurant is lovely, as always, but it was just a completely "blah" meal.
We tried Raaga for the first time Thursday night, and we were delighted by almost everything. Nice private-feeling and quiet ambiance, best of any restaurant we know in the area. They gave us a table by a window that felt like it was in a private room despite the fact that two other couples eventually were seated quite near.
More importantly, the food was without doubt the best we have had, better by far than in any of the other nice Indian restaurants nearby. The parking was also a bit easier than downtown, which helped improve the experience for us. To start, we shared an order of excellent crispy samosas; then, I had lamb in spinach with rice; and, my wife had chicken in the tandor oven. I ordered two-out-of-ten spicy and it was perfect for me; my wife was also satisfied with her five-out-of-ten chicken spiciness. Each entree would have been more than enough for the two of us, and our waitress packed up very nicely what we could not eat; we had it the next day for lunch when it was almost as good as it had been the night before. Our server, Corin I think, was very attentive and friendly. The garlic naan was the best I have ever tasted, and I appreciated that at my request they made ours without sprinkling it was fresh cilantro (which tastes very odd, not good odd, to me). It was overall an excellent experience, and we plan to return!
The only thing that was less than ideal was that the champagne (bottle of Spanish cava), which we ordered on arriving, did not arrive until after we had finished our samosa appetizers.
I had heard that some evenings there is sitar music, which would have been nice, but it was all great with or without the music. Perhaps we'll hear the sitar on our next visit, which would make it a nearly perfect experience!! I would highly recommend Raaga to anyone who likes good food and service in a nice, quiet, accessible setting.
We have had some good meals and service at Raaga in the past but this time it was quite different. The waitress was ready to take drink orders as soon as we sat down. We had to ask her to give us a few minutes to which she responded "sure Sweetie". Later we were called Honey. Our appetizer of Samosa was quite good. When I inquired whether or not an entree was spicy she responded by saying " I don't know. I don't taste the dishes". After quite a lengthy time we were served our entrees. The scallops, the most expensive dish on the menu, was a disappointment. The rice was good but served in a very small portion. My husband's lamb dish was swimming in sauce. Our dishes remained in front of us for a long while until I finally asked the hostess who was passing by to remove them. My husband ordered the rice pudding for dessert but cancelled the order as it was taking so long. We requested our bill to which 20% tip had been added automatically. Not a good experience all around.
My husband and I ate at Raaga for the first time, and really enjoyed it! The food was excellent Indian fare, and the menu included some choices that we've not seen in Indian restaurants before. Our server turned out to be the restaurant's food and beverage purchaser, and he was able to give us sound advice about what the different selections were like. We certainly would like to eat here again sometime!
We went to Raaga to try their 3-course prix-fixe menus advertised to show off their cooking—I had the vegetarian option, my wife the non-veg. We reserved for 7.15 and were promptly seated—it was not over-crowded, the décor was pleasant, and the noise level no problem at all. The appetizers came quickly and were excellent (as was the food throughout the evening—perhaps spicier than some people are comfortable with, but fine for us). But we then had to wait an hour for our entrees, though they had been specifically advertised and could presumably have been pre-prepared (a lentil sauce and chicken in a sauce, both with rice). The next-table couple, who came after us, had finished their second course (chicken tikka) before ours arrived. So the kitchen’s speed might be called fitful, but the serving staff was universally pleasant. There were some odd disparities in portion size, but in general servings were generous. Prices, we thought, were on the high side for both menu items and wine. We would certainly go back for the food, but next time we’d try splitting an appetizer and main course, and be prepared for the possibility of a wait.
