We were seated in the outdoor seating area. We were not greeted or spoken to for 20 minutes. We couldn’t get the staff to even make eye contact. We decided to leave. Spoke to the manager. He was very polite and apologetic. He offered to comp our meal. We declined. It’ll be awhile before we try it again.
We've been going here since they opened at Kierland, then moved to this new location, this was the 1st time that the sushi was not up to par. The pork gyoza arrived cold, sent back and the new order was hot but soggy. Not up to their standards for sure. Maybe being Labor Day? which shouldn't matter whatsoever. Very disappointing.
Good food but terrible service and extremely noisy. This is the second time we have come to this location since they moved from Kierland. The first time was a disaster, but we figured they were still settling in to the new place. Unfortunately, they have not improved. It took us almost 20 minutes to get a couple glasses of wine. I would assume that the same staff came over from the old location, and if that is true, what changed? The old location was very efficient always. This place is total chaos. Whoever is managing this place has no clue on how to run a restaurant. Our server told us our drinks were taking a long time because the bar was backed up. That is a ridiculous excuse! Bad, bad management. Also they had music blaring so loud that you couldn't even carry on a conversation. We will never return here.
The waiter was friendly and very responsive to our requests. Some of the rolls were tasty but we felt the tuna was not fresh. I ordered the tuna salad. Some of the tuna was done perfectly but there were 3 pieces that was gray and had thick skin. I couldn't eat it since it was tough and had poor taste. 2 of the diners had upset stomachs the next morning. We were the ones who are the tuna salad and rolls.
I was disappointed in the ambiance of the new location. Bar like atmosphere with no need to dress up for a nice dinner out! Seems inferior to the Ra restaurant that was at kierland. Thank you! Waiter was very good!!
We loved RA's when we first moved here in 1998 because we grew close to the owners. Once they sold it has been a different place. We have gone on and off with RA's and recently we decided to try again. Every other week we would go and the service or the noise would just get a little worse with each visit. This last weekend we were there again and the food is fantastic but the service and the manager gave every excuse on why things took so long. The drinks were sitting on the bar for 10 minutes until I got up from the table to go get them. Of course the beer glasses were warm and we requested cold ones.The food always comes all at once rather than spaced out. The manager was not very welcoming so we are done with RA's. I hope you have a better experience but there are two many other great Sushi places in the area. We will not support them any longer. You decide how to spend your hard earned money but that is not what my family needs is stress while dining out.
We went for a sushi pig out on Mother's Day. We tried about four or five different rolls (all very good) and had two orders of tako shasimi, which was outstanding, and also an ice cream based desert which was delicious. Everything was very fresh and beautifully prepared. Our waiter was very attentive and efficient. I would definitely go back. There are still a number of things on the menu that I'm looking forward to trying. I was a little hesitant about going because of several of the negative reviews, but we had a very good experience.
Beer was cold, Sake was hot, food was good. What was perplexing was that the restaurant was about 1/3 full on a Saturday night from the time we were there 7 PM till about 9:00 PM. Looked like there was full wait staff on duty, but the service was very slow as was the food preparation. Don't know why but that's just the way it was. It won't keep us from going there another time, I just hope they get it together soon.
My last two experiences with this RA location has prompted me to finally join Yelp!
I'm not sure who manages this location but it suffers and cry for adult supervision. The "kids" that host are so not trained on customer service that its painful to bring guests. Didn't have the issues with the Kierland location and have never had the issue with the Old Town Scottsdale location.
Also the rolls and dishes are weaker at this locations than the others and getting worse, sad that they are not to the same level of quality as the other locations...someone is dropping the ball.
We will use the Old Town location or the other sushi restaurant 100 yards to the north.
I mentioned this to one of the managers that was hanging at the front desk chatting it up with his young hostess, he really didn't seem to care.
Best Happy Hour bargain around. Sushi and all at great prices. Food is always outstanding. Eating outside is so-so at the "new" location. Too much traffic speeding by on Scottsdale Road. Much better ambience outside at the old Kierland location.
Service was abysmal, which is unusual. Waiter MIA after we received almost all our sushi except one plate. Couldn't find him to get the check or to pay. Had to ask the manager for the check. When he finally came over with the paid bill to sign for the credit card payment, he just plopped the bill down, no "Thanks for coming in", no "Sorry I was so busy", no apology whatsoever.
I found that rude.
Here for lunch, as always service is excellent, food is consistent (keep in mind we've only ever ordered sushi).
This time around we notice that they got rid of the Sushi sheet and pencil where you can mark your order and just give to the server. I would think it's quit a bit harder on the server, especially if your party is ordering a lot. I also took note that the menus were redone to incorporate the calories to all the items (which I loved). We ordered Green Tea and a Kirin. For Sushi, we ordered Sea Urchin, Salmon, Smelt Eggs with Quail Eggs and a Yellow Tail Sashimi. All the fish was fresh and tasted good.
Always good to have a spot to stop by for a quick bite to eat for lunch.
Though I made the reservation this morning and confirmed it via phone call a few hours prior, they staff was not prepared for us. Our drinks & edamame took over 25 minutes to arrive. Cooked food came out 45 minutes after the first sushi round. We normally come to Ra for lunch and should probably stick to that.
