We love Ra Sushi Bar!! The Scallop Dynamite Roll is soooo good! We go there all the time and always find things we like. Our server this evening was very helpful and had the answer to all of our food questions. Great place for a date or an night out with friends.
Great happy hour (drinks and food) until 7:00. Excellent service, modern decor, and a youthful vibe. Music a little loud and frenetic at times, not exactly conducive to relaxed dinner conversation. Less common options like hirame (halibut) sashimi and nigiri were a pleasant surprise on the menu. Good food and a great experience overall, so I will be back.
Service was great and the bartender can mix one hell of a cocktail! (Pretty sure her name was Brittany)
The food was good, per usual. Our server was not as good. He was pretty stand-offish. He did not engage in casual conversation and was generally uninterested. It was a bummer since we came here as an anniversary dinner, as we went on our first date here. I tried to mention it to him, but again he didn’t seem to interested. Great ambiance, good drinks, good food, subpar service.
We have been here several times. It is one of our favorite places to go for sushi. Food and drinks are really good!
best sushi in overland park
RA Sushi is my favorite sushi and cocktail restaurant in KC!!
Our waitress was a bit of a ditz, and the bar was incredibly slow to make our drinks. We ordered a drink and it didn't show up until we were done eating our food. But besides that, the food was absolutely delicious and a great happy hour overall. Probably the best salmon I've ever had. Great gyoza. Love that the happy hour menu is 7 days a week.
Great waitress, good food and thank you for the free birthday dessert!
Love this place for sushi. The best place in town!
Great happy hour! The cucumber jalapeño cocktail was heavvvvy on the jalapeño, pretty difficult to drink, but the food was amazing as always.
Ra Sushi is the furthest one can be from a Japanese restaurant. The decor was tacky. The food was average, and severely overpriced. The Miso Soup tasted instant and missing basic ingredients for flavor. The Green Tea was instant. Halfway through drinking our hot tea, all the powder had settled to the bottom. Notably, a lot of shortcuts were taken in all of the food preparation at RA. The service had a lot of room for improvement on every part. Some examples - Our glasses sat empty for most of the dinner and dirty dishes were never removed from the table after finishing entrees. The music was extremely too loud. We felt like we were trying to eat in a night club. The place is very hollow so every noise is amplified. As we were there for about an hour, we noticed at least three times where the music was turned up. It wasn’t pleasing, ambient music either... we are talking heavy techno and Rap. I do not recommend this place to anyone who enjoys the peacefulness of a Japanese restaurant. It is definitely NOT a family atmosphere.
We drive from mid Missouri for this sushi. We love the nigiri especially and it's located near a movie theater and gelato so it's very well placed.
The food was fantastic! The Poke Tacos are amazing as an appetizer. The food is always great there. It was not too crowded, although the music was a little loud for my taste but it wasn’t a big deal. Overall it was a great place to celebrate our anniversary.
Had a great night, could tell the waitress was new, but great food and hot date.
Great as always
It was happy hour and everything was very good and reasonable
The food was flavorfull but the teriyaki sauce was a little light or bland. It was a little noisy too and the lights seemed to go up and down in brightness slightly...very distracting. Service was great!
Went for happy hour during the week. Not too busy on this particular day. Noise level is always high for some reason so it can be hard to visit. Food was delicious!
great food and
Service better than usual
Sushi just ok.
Waitress was very friendly and helpful
We decided to try Ra's happy hour. It's convenient that they show you the calorie counts on their menus for reference. It also alerted us to the fact that the happy hour "specials" must be smaller portions than the regular menu because the happy hour selections contained fewer calories than the same items on the regular menu. We both ordered well drinks but when the bill came, we were charged full price. When we alerted our waitress, she gave us a credit towards the drinks, bringing down the charge to what the menu listed as a call drink. We decided the additional three dollars wasn't worth another round of hassling the server. The sashimi salad and chirashi bowl were both delicious and our server was excellent but the fact the happy hour food is simply a smaller portion to warrant the smaller price then getting charged a premium price for a well drink left a poor impression. I doubt we go back.
Food was good, slightly over priced even for happy hour. Service was good. At peak times, pretty loud.
Sat to our table immediately. But then we sat unattended for almost 20 minutes. When WE finally caught someone’s attention, a wait staff had been sent home and we were in an unattended section.
Food was good and price was good.
We came to Ra on New Year's Eve, getting a table for four reserved on the previous night. It's a great spot for a night like that, because it looks and feels festive. Trees on the street are lit up and the skating rink across the street enhances the holiday vibe. Inside feels like a party. (If I have one complaint, it's that the music was way too loud and not particularly well-chosen.) The cocktails were strong and priced for happy hour all night. We had great sushi, the tempura was the least greasy I've ever had, and the dessert plate was three flavors of mochi with fruit, and everybody loved it.
Surf & Turf were amazing!
Was looking for a date night place and was not impressed by the food, service or environment. The 3 rolls of sushi came out at different times and the whole time we felt rushed.
The rice was plain not sushi rice for chirashi bowl. Weak drinks double vodka was a single, nice server very good service.
Loved RA both times I have been! Great, quick service! Fresh food and great sushi!!
Great food. Great service. A bit too loud and way too dark.
Good sushi for sure and super fast service. We felt a little rushed to order but after that there was no pressure to leave. It was noisy but I read other reviews so I expected that.
5 pm Party of 7 + 2 toddlers on a Friday night. Took full advantage of the Happy Hour Food Menu until 7pm. They were great about bringing food out as soon as it was ready. Attentive Service. We were very pleased with our evening.
I made a reservation online for 6:15 the night before thanksgiving. Once we arrived, we we're greeted with "How can I help you?" I told him I had made a reservation online for 6:15. He asked what my name was and proceeded to tell me "it's only 6:11pm".... I'm not sure why that was uttered but, it kind of threw me off-given the restaurant wasn't busy. At 6:15 he then took us to our table (crammed in between two large tables in the back of the restaurant.)- NOT ideal when i'm currently 9 months pregnant. Once we sat down- we waited a few to be greeted by our waiter. My husband ordered a water and a glass of wine and I ordered a tea. The tea and waters came out-but the wine took a while... Not sure why, again.. it wasn't busy. She came back about 7-10 min later with the glass of wine and asked to take our order. We wanted to start off by ordering Calamari for our app and proceeded to order our entrees, so we didn't have to wait for her to come back and take our order. As we waited- our waters were empty and his wine glass was empty. She didn't come back once for a refill until we asked some other waiter for one. Once again, the wine took about 10 min and another staff member filled our waters. When our food order came out- it was only ONE roll of sushi- for my husband...( we ordered Calamari for an appetizer and 3 rolls) Mine didn't come with his, nor did we ever get our appetizer. So, my husband waited to eat his while mine was still being made. About 7-10 min later our other rolls came out-still no Calamari. We proceeded to eat our meal and once again, waters we're empty. We finally asked the food runner where the appetizers were, and he didn't say a word. Just looked at us funny and walked away. Our waitress came out and said "we're so swamped- i'm so sorry".. how did our food come out and not our calamari? makes no sense. Anyways, we cancelled the order for the app- paid and left. Painful experience. Won't be coming back.
Way too loud tonight. Lights super low. Food was ok. Probably won't be back for a while.
Delicious Sushi and Great Service, definitely will be back!
We love RA! Wait staff is always attentive and nice. However, something is going on with the calamari. Until 6 mos ago, it was consistently delicious and tender. Since then, 2 of the last 3 times we got it, it was odd and chewy. It's as if they are not slicing it correctly.
The food is really good, some of the better sushi I have had in Kansas City. The place is nice and well decorated. A bit too loud for me as the music made it difficult to have a conversation with my wife.
The only reason I rated the service as average was because we waited for 15 minutes without anyone waiting on us. One of my party went and got the manager who then served us personally. He really made up for the lack of service we received after being seated. The food was amazing and reasonable since we ate off the Happy Hour menu until 7:00. We had a good time and will definitely go back!
