RA Sushi Bar Restaurant - Leawood Ratings and Reviews
The food was fantastic! The Poke Tacos are amazing as an appetizer. The food is always great there. It was not too crowded, although the music was a little loud for my taste but it wasn’t a big deal. Overall it was a great place to celebrate our anniversary.
We decided to try Ra's happy hour. It's convenient that they show you the calorie counts on their menus for reference. It also alerted us to the fact that the happy hour "specials" must be smaller portions than the regular menu because the happy hour selections contained fewer calories than the same items on the regular menu. We both ordered well drinks but when the bill came, we were charged full price. When we alerted our waitress, she gave us a credit towards the drinks, bringing down the charge to what the menu listed as a call drink. We decided the additional three dollars wasn't worth another round of hassling the server. The sashimi salad and chirashi bowl were both delicious and our server was excellent but the fact the happy hour food is simply a smaller portion to warrant the smaller price then getting charged a premium price for a well drink left a poor impression. I doubt we go back.
We came to Ra on New Year's Eve, getting a table for four reserved on the previous night. It's a great spot for a night like that, because it looks and feels festive. Trees on the street are lit up and the skating rink across the street enhances the holiday vibe. Inside feels like a party. (If I have one complaint, it's that the music was way too loud and not particularly well-chosen.) The cocktails were strong and priced for happy hour all night. We had great sushi, the tempura was the least greasy I've ever had, and the dessert plate was three flavors of mochi with fruit, and everybody loved it.
I made a reservation online for 6:15 the night before thanksgiving. Once we arrived, we we're greeted with "How can I help you?" I told him I had made a reservation online for 6:15. He asked what my name was and proceeded to tell me "it's only 6:11pm".... I'm not sure why that was uttered but, it kind of threw me off-given the restaurant wasn't busy. At 6:15 he then took us to our table (crammed in between two large tables in the back of the restaurant.)- NOT ideal when i'm currently 9 months pregnant. Once we sat down- we waited a few to be greeted by our waiter. My husband ordered a water and a glass of wine and I ordered a tea. The tea and waters came out-but the wine took a while... Not sure why, again.. it wasn't busy. She came back about 7-10 min later with the glass of wine and asked to take our order. We wanted to start off by ordering Calamari for our app and proceeded to order our entrees, so we didn't have to wait for her to come back and take our order. As we waited- our waters were empty and his wine glass was empty. She didn't come back once for a refill until we asked some other waiter for one. Once again, the wine took about 10 min and another staff member filled our waters. When our food order came out- it was only ONE roll of sushi- for my husband...( we ordered Calamari for an appetizer and 3 rolls) Mine didn't come with his, nor did we ever get our appetizer. So, my husband waited to eat his while mine was still being made. About 7-10 min later our other rolls came out-still no Calamari. We proceeded to eat our meal and once again, waters we're empty. We finally asked the food runner where the appetizers were, and he didn't say a word. Just looked at us funny and walked away. Our waitress came out and said "we're so swamped- i'm so sorry".. how did our food come out and not our calamari? makes no sense. Anyways, we cancelled the order for the app- paid and left. Painful experience. Won't be coming back.
We love RA! Wait staff is always attentive and nice. However, something is going on with the calamari. Until 6 mos ago, it was consistently delicious and tender. Since then, 2 of the last 3 times we got it, it was odd and chewy. It's as if they are not slicing it correctly.
The only reason I rated the service as average was because we waited for 15 minutes without anyone waiting on us. One of my party went and got the manager who then served us personally. He really made up for the lack of service we received after being seated. The food was amazing and reasonable since we ate off the Happy Hour menu until 7:00. We had a good time and will definitely go back!
Hostess friendly but not genuine. Bartender didn’t say hello or smile. Robotic. $13.50 Titos Dirty Martini. Yikes. For call liquor?
Server was horrible. She needs to learn how to serve the level of service that we know you require. No pre-bussing. No intro. Felt pushed to hurry and leave. She forgot to ring in a lobster roll and made it sound like we should thank her in the process for taking care of it. Manager never hit the table.
The food was average...sushi in the Midwest. It took ages to get sake, a glass of wine and edimame - standards. Only tell a table "you're new" once. When our food arrived i had to all for ginger and wasabi - this should be standard. When it was brought to us the person acted life she was put out and slid onto the table...sorry to inconvenience you! Please delete televisions from sushi restaurants! We won't be back.
So disappointed, Our waitress was awful, she couldn’t remember or get our order right on several occasions.(we were a group of 7) We gave up on a lot of our food. Also when receiving our meals half us got our food while the other half waited 20 minutes for their food. So we ate at separate times. This place is expensive (which we expected-mostly) but too expensive for the service or lack of.... Very disappointing. We probably won’t be back. There are a lot of great sushi restaurants in our area to pay such a high price for Mediocre food and terrible service..
The first time we came here I was over the moon impressed. This time I was less than excited. Although, the food was great, and usually is, this time the service wasn't fantastic. I felt very rushed at all points in time. We ordered appetizers and they came out before our drinks. We ordered the meal shortly after and it was out with in 20 minutes. All in all we were rushed out with in 30 minutes of sitting down. It wasn't the date night I had wanted. Some people may appreciate the expedited service, but for me, I felt like I didn't even get to say more than 5 words to my partner before we were eating and out the door. Slow down. Let us enjoy our time with you is my recommendation.
My husband and I decided to try RA Sushi for our anniversary date night. We both wanted sushi, wanted to try a new place, and liked the happy hour specials... and we were not disappointed at all! The Viva Las Vegas roll was the best roll I have ever had, and the poke bowl was phenomenal, also. We had the seared tuna appetizer... devoured it before a picture was even thought of. Husband got the Tootsy Maki (sp?) roll (my fave of his 3), Crunchy Calamari roll, and Crunchy Shrimp Calamari roll and he enjoyed all of them. Highly recommend this place; I can't wait to go back!
