The legacy began in 1871, when Bavarian immigrant Philip Zorn Jr., the son of a brewer, migrated to Michigan City to start his own brewing venture. After managing Busch & Brandt Brewery in Chicago for over 20 years, he settled at the corner of 9th & York Streets, where the P.H. Zorn Brewing Company used a spring-fed well to produce up to 15,000 barrels of beer a year. These included iconic brands such as Golden Grain, Grain State & Pilsenzorn under the slogan “It’s good for you!” even during prohibition, the Zorn name survived by using the facility to produce the soft drink Zoro, marketed as a “temperance beverage.” as the brewery was passed down To Philip’s son, Ron, the name was changed to the Dunes Brewery, before eventually closing its doors in 1938. In 2015 after 79 years idle, brewing operations resumed with Zorn Brew Works. The taproom occupies the former carriage house on the grounds of the historic brewery. Michigan City’s oldest brewery is now its newest!

Fun evening! The indoors and outdoors are decorated so cool. Our group enjoyed drinks and food and all agreed this will be our go to during the summer. I LOVE that dogs are welcomed. Just a note More staff might help!

We had a reservation for a week, yet showed up as a surprise to the staff. Management came off as extremely unprofessional and apparently did not pass on news of a party of 13. Zay, our waiter, was phenomenal covering a party of 13 while still doing all he did downstairs.

We have had brunch here before shelf ice brew fest for a few years now. It’s always been great band, great atmosphere, great beer and drinks and a pretty good buffet. This year the buffet was super disappointing. There was undercooked biscuits, cold gravy, undercooked eggs and cold pizza. That was it. It was only $13 a person, but it was so bad that we’re sad we won’t be going back there again for shelf ice. I wonder why they didn’t put much effort into their buffet this year. Why even have it?

Good food and live music. Really good environment. They overbooked with my reservation which was a little annoying. But, the manager took extra time to get us a place to be seated.

We made a reservation for a party of six. Upon arrival we were dearly promptly. Things were going well until there was clearly some sort of mix up with a planned birthday party. They moved the party from upstairs and seated them all around our table in a section in the back. It immediately felt awkward, like we were crashing someone’s party. They kept adding chairs to the space and we were all crammed in. No fault of the party goers, but they were bumping into us. We were fine, just wanted to get our food, eat, and go so that the party could have our table as well. Our server was sweet and delightful but it was clear the restaurant wasn’t getting food out timely. Everyone rushed around panicked. We got a couple appetizers which were just ok. After an hour of waiting for our entrees, we started to inquire as to when our food would be out. Our server was hustling and trying her best. A manager stopped by and we explained that we felt crammed and it was odd to seat a party all around us, to which the manager offered to sit us outside on the patio. (It’s winter, it’s not heated and clearly a snarky comment). Telling a party who has nothing but patient to suck it up or sit outside is pretty disgusting. After an hour and fifteen minutes, 5/6 had their meals. It took an hour and a half for a salad. To their credit, they did take that off our bill, but to have someone wait the whole time and watch everyone else eat is poor service. I would have given zero stars but our waitress was really kind and attentive.

We had Noah as a server, and he was fabulous! Great beer, really good food, nice atmosphere, good place for sure for our "guys" night, or any other occasion.

Went with a large group and we were incredibly disappointed. At least half our orders were wrong, some of our drinks were sour and stale tasting, and we had several issues with the bill being inaccurate. Our waitress was very nice and accommodating, but her manager was rude and unapologetic. In the end we were wrongfully charged and are in the process of disputing with credit card.

Had a table for 10 upstairs. We were the only ones up there. Service was great and so was the food.
