Zocalo Mexican Cuisine & Tequileria Ratings and Reviews
It was restaurant week and the service was excellent, but my entrée of fish, grits and mixed veggies was overloaded with garlic. I brought most of it home and reheated with lemon which improved it. The portions menu had many choices of Mexican food that looked interesting - not the typical rice and beans. I liked the ambience and location on the plaza.
Have been here for Margaritas in the past however this was the first time eating here and the food and service did not disappoint. The fajitas were awesome and the salsa trio was amazing. I can say without hesitation that all three salsas are great. And the margaritas are really good as well.
Our waiter, Reese, was great. Unfortunately their happy hour set up was very miscommunicated. When we were charged full price versus happy hour, the manager was very argumentative and difficult versus accommodating and understanding. Loved our time and margaritas unfortunately will not be back due to managers lack of respect for two young females.
The food was fantastic, the service was perfect. The only problem we had was that we had a reservation for 6 p.m.when it was apparent we would be 15 min late, I called. The young man who answered said no problem, they had several that were lingering. When we got there, they had cancelled the reservation and told us we should have called. Unfortunately the man was not at the hostess area. (I should have remembered his name) When we explained, they got us right in. I would suggest on a Friday night at Christmas, go as early as you can. The parking was nearly impossible to find.
All in all, I would go back anytime. They have an appetizer queso with sausage that was great as well as everything we ordered
Here’s the most notable problems: service was slow and inattentive (we were 1 of 2 tables with people), the food was awful (we took two bites out of $9 guacamole and added our own salt), our food came out at different times with some items coming out with 20+ minutes between plates, and the music was off-putting by playing Kesha and LMFAO - which should be played in dance clubs, not restaurants.
With so many options in the Plaza, I’ll NEVER be back.
Had the pleasure of eating here for brunch. We started with the pork belly nachos. Oh my god!! Why have I never had these before!!! One word INCREDIBLE (and absolutely beautiful too!)!!!
Had the chorizo biscuits & gravy. Biscuits were amazing, gravy super rich & creamy. Delicious!
Bloody Mary is super good with a nice kick to it.
Service was impeccable and couldn't be beat.
You must try this.
Had the chance to check out this gem this past week!
Place was amazing and it was hopping!
The el jefe margarita was to die for! They bought their own barrel of tequila!!??!! Had the steak. Coffee crusted with butter - gave it a nice rich flavor. Service was on POINT. Will definitely be back. Great ambiance. All around great experience!
Food is just ok. Tacos seem to be the best item on menu. Salsa trio is good. Guacamole is good. Drinks seemed to take forever. Server seemed to disappear until we asked for him. Had to ask to have table cleared at end of meal. Not busy at all. Seemed understaffed.
3rd Zocalo experience and unfortunately service wasn't great like the other times. Not bad enough that I wouldn't return...just expected it to be better.
Hubby and I were able to make a last min reservation on a Saturday. Hostess was nice. Drinks and an app came out in a normal amount of time, but then the waitress disappeared for ?? how long.
Main dishes arrived 30 min or so after we finished the app. We eat out to relax, not rush, but after awhile felt kind of forgotten. Plus, we didn't get any updates or apologies about the time. I'm really not a major complainer, never a free food seeker, but I like when people acknowledge what's up.
Atmosphere-upbeat and modern decor, not tacky or weird.
Mixed drinks-Delicious. Several options and tons of different tequila tastings if that's your thing. Food quality is high overall. Fundido was on fire and yummy/crusty the last 2 times we ate there...but this time no fire, no crusty cheese. Kind of sad, but not nail in the coffin sad. Still tasty. Have also tried enchiladas, shrimp salad and red chili shrimp over the few visits and all were great. Seafood tacos were kind of dry last time and could've used some citrus, but fish quality was good. We took our 10 and 6 year-olds there (notably more like foodie kids not ones that would rather eat mac n cheese, so cant say it's a kid place for everyone...depends on the kids).
