Zocalo is taken from the name referring to the main square right in the middle of Mexico City, so you can bet that you are in for an authentic dining experience at this restaurant. Featuring a large variety of your traditional favorites, Zocalo also has quite a few chef-inspired creations that you will want to be sure to try. The chicken mole pablano is one such innovative dish that packs some powerful flavor sure to please.
If you are looking for a new happy hour spot, Zocalo offers up some daily drink specials that will make the occasion extra memorable.
The restaurant was noisier and more of a bar scene than I was prepared for, but the food was outstanding, the spicy orange cocktail was yummy, service was great. I'd definitely go again.
We have loved this place in the past but this time our food was horrible. The soup tasted so salty and prepackaged. One of us sent it back. The other wished they had because the certainly didn't enjoy theirs. The elotes were cold and we've never been to a restaurant was it was served cold. We we're very dissatisfied and will not be returning.
Great place to people watch and drink. The atmosphere is awesome
Pretty average food and service. It was ridiculousnly loud. Had to ask the servers to ask the ppl smoking outside in the patio to move. But $4 margaritas on Friday evening saved the day.
The service was super slow and seemed a bit chaotic from the valet to our waitress. I couldn’t get lettuce wraps with my meal because they we were told they were out of a lot of things that day. The daily special house margaritas weren’t good at all. I probably won’t go back.
The place was fun, food good. I would go back again. Fun vibe.
We went for Taco Tuesdays , which they have a great deal if you are willing to eat some somewhat average tacos. Not bad by any means, but nothing that blew me away especially because the toppings on the tacos were few and far between. And maybe that is just what you get for $2/taco.
It was also a bit weird that they have a beer special on Tuesdays, but they ran out of both of those beers (Victoria and Tecate) and it was only 7:30PM.
Overall, we got what we paid for - tacos and beer for a cheap dinner. If that is what you are looking for then I would recommend this place. Might go somewhere else to be wowed.
Normally I'd worry about any place that had tables available on Friday night at 7. Atlanta restaurants are usually fully booked the day of.
Lucky for us Zocalo had some space and we got a last-minute reservation on OpenTable.
The food here is excellent. I love the carnitas. The Enchiladas and the Mole are also very good.
The margaritas are strong and tasty as well.
The service is usually quite good and Friday was no exception. Our waiter was a real-life pirate with an eye patch and everything. He wasn't wearing it that night, but I'm pretty sure he has one. He was friendly and didn't give us a hard time about our tableside guac coupon.
My only complaint would be the noise level. This place is extremely loud with lots of drunk patrons yelling over each other. OpenTable's description of "energetic" is only accurate in the same way that hurricanes or forest fires are energetic. There is indeed a lot of energy, but it's kind of beside the point when your ears are bleeding. Probably not something they can quell, but it does take away from the experience.
Zocalo accommodated our group of 18 amazingly - one of the few restaurants that would accommodate us without a fixed menu! The food and drinks were awesome. Service was good. Whole restaurant sang Happy Birthday to us. They get my thumbs up!
Best Mexican food in Atlanta! I have been coming here for years and they never let me down. Great food, great service, great people.
Food was not very good, very loud and service was ok. Would be a great place to drink with friends and maybe order appetizers. I do not recommend the table side guacamole, it was terrible and no flavor. I was very disappointed!!
I booked Zocalo for my last minute birthday brunch! I sold all my friends on the unlimited margaritas! We had an amazing time. Thanks for making my birthday PERFECT! I went back two days later and tried the quesadillas and they were delicious!
Seems like nothing from outside but FANTASTIC food! Casual bar style atmosphere with music and sports on tv. Fine for dinner with kids on a week night. Awesome margaritas!
Good service but the food was okay .. The atmosphere was very chill and laidback
The food was some of the best Mexican I ever had. However, it was quite loud and I was hit on a few times which made me feel uncomfortable. But overall the food was solid.
Too loud to think. This is not the place to go when you want to catch up with friends as you have to practically yell. It is clearly a great local hangout. The Margaritas were overpriced. We purchased a pitcher for $39.00 and the pitcher was completely full of ice resulting in probably less than 12 oz each of actual margarita for the 3 of us. But all of it could have been forgiven if the service had been even decent. We sat for 10 minutes without anyone even acknowledging us. When our waiter did - his comment was “I saw you looking around so I assumed I needed to come over”. BTW - the margaritas took another 15 minutes to receive. We asked someone else for some paper napkins and our waiter snapped at us for getting someone else involved and then we finally got up to get the napkins. I will never go back and will never recommend it. But clearly others really enjoy the activity and I suppose are there for the “party” atmosphere.
The food was good but the zucchinis with mushrooms were too salty and after I sent them back, they were too oily.
Delicious Tex-Mex and great value! We were a party of 11 celebrating 3 birthdays. Staff served us with a smile and explained the menu to the newbies. Highly and enthusiastically recommend!
It was a bit noisy, but that was expected being that it was Friday Night. I wish i would have done some research, i was looking for a quiet place to have dinner with my wife since it was her birthday. The food was very good and so were the drinks. This is the second Richard Sandoval restaurant that i have been to and have been satisfied with the service and food.
Food was okay, but high on salt; not marginally better than Frogs down the street. Cocktails and margaritas were inventive. The mole salsa instead of pico is interesting. Location is lively in Midtown. Service was only okay.
It was a fun place! I enjoyed the fresh air. Baja Tacos are really good!
The food isn't spectacular, but it's always good and the beer is cold. On a warm afternoon, sitting on the patio, that's about as much as any of us deserves.
Food was great, but it took so long to place an order it was ridiculous. It wasn't crowded at all, but it took about 45-60 minutes to get the waiter to come take our order. One of the party had to leave due to time constraints.
We wanted to try some Mexican in Midtown and hadn't tried this place yet. The food wasn't the best Mexican I've had. The margaritas were great though. Looks like a neighborhood gem. Will be back for what looks like a Sunday Funday!
I would have absolutely loved this place if I was back in undergrad. The crowd was pretty young, the conversations were loud, and the music was even louder. The food was good (I had the hanger steak tacos and my husband the fish tacos), and the menu had lots of unmarked gluten-free options. But the slow, inattentive service and exuberant conversation and music made it not so enjoyable for our lazy Sunday lunch.
Great food- especially the salsa with the chips. And I had 2 mojitos- yummy. Nice professional staff, as well.
Great spot for a casual meal. Great food. I had the Chile Rellano and it was delish!! Excellent people watching - very diverse crowd which was the best part of the place!
Very disappointing. We had a reservation for a lunch meeting for 25 people, and only 10 people received their food, after waiting for over an hour. The rest of us had to leave and ended up going back to the office to get food from our lunch cafeteria! The bad part was this event was a get-together for team members that are out of town, and we wanted to show them a good time. Well, that didn't go well. Needless to say, we will not be going here for lunch again.
Great authentic Mexican food. Excellent service! This is a very popular spot and why I love Open Table. Had a reservation for 9pm and when we arrived I overheard the hostess tell the folks in front of us that there was an hour wait.
Our server was preoccupied with taking shots.
the food was good, service was great and we'll be returning on our next business trip because they were so nice.
Jose was an amazing server and we had a wonderful afternoon.
While the reviews were good on OpenTable our experience was not.
It was noisy - largely empty.
The service was pleasant and the food was avergae
Class reunion lunch
Always busy at night. Good (not outstanding) food. Reasonable prices. Good bartenders. Fun, lively atmosphere. Neighborhood hangout. Been going for years, never disappointed.
Chose Zocalo for a bachelorette party brunch. Often times, large groups can be annoying and/or loud resulting in begrudged service. Fortunately, that was not the case here. Zocalo was accommodating and treated us like every other customer. It was outdoor-ish seating. The food was phemonaml and so were the drinks.
No good food.
We've always had great meals at Zocalo. One of the great things to et when visiting here is the table side guacamole. Their Carnitas are also really well done, nice and juicy but still with those crispy bits as well. The outdoor dining is also great on a warm evening. It can get packed on Saturday afternoons and weekends, so we usually visit on weeknights. One of our favorite mexican places in Atlanta.
The food and service were incredible. Very clean plating and good quality food.
I had to modify my reservation from 14 people to 18 and it was not a problem at all. They were extremely accommodating. The staff was very friendly and skilled. Great job! I'll come back to Zocalo, no doubt about it.
