Zio Ristorante Ratings and Reviews
This was my second meal at Zio. The first time I was impressed by the comfortable seating and separation of tables which allowed a group of adults to have relaxing and quiet conversation. The large booth is like eating in a living room. The bar is also very comfortable and stocks good high-end booze we are always looking for rye and they had it. This time we had an extremely comfortable meal once again. The food is very good. The scarpariello was delicious as was the papardelle with Lamb ragu. I never order chicken parm in restaurants because I can make an excellent one at home but I was in the mood and theirs was not better than mine. I say go for a romantic meal, first date if you’re over 30 or seeing friends for a good meal and conversation. It’s really a lovely place.
Another Memorable Dining Experience, this time a Saturday night dinner for five. Zio is a reliable "go to" place in NYC, with consistently excellent food and attentive service. Appetizers were great -- arancini, meatballs, sausage and peppers, flatbread ... For the main, I usually enjoy the veal chop, but my son tempted me to try his favorite -- Spaghetti Carbonara. Glad he did!. It was done perfectly, slightly al dente. My wife found the branzino to be very tasty. We finished with a house-made tiramisu, which -- like the check -- was light and sweet. Seriously, Zio is an outstanding value.
My wife and I had dinner with a couple who we only see once or twice a year. They asked that we choose the restaurant as my wife needs gluten and dairy free options. Zio's has the best happy hour as it goes until 7:30pm and the entire front of the restaurant happy hour is available, NOT just at the bar. I wanted to sit in the front of the restaurant, near the windows, to take advantage of happy hour drink prices and for dinner as well. Seating the four of us in this area, without one of us having to sit on the corner of the table/banquette was not working. We moved to a table closer to the entrance but it was too breezy. Darren, one of the partners/owners, saved the day. He inserted himself in our predicament, funny guy, and was like no problem and honored the happy hour drink pricing in the back section of the restaurant. Important note, my wife wanted to sit in the back section from the get go. 🙄 Darren had a constant unobtrusive presence, took our drink and food orders and was entertaining as well. Food of course was excellent, as always, and our friends I know will return to Zio's in the future.
Our group of 8 had a great time at Zio! Excellent Italian standards and easily able to accommodate our gluten-free friend. I had the papardelle with lamb ragu and was VERY happy. Sampled the desserts and they tasted great. Highly recommend for dates or group outings in the Gramercy Park area.
Had looked up this restaurant on Open Table and all of the reviews were great. Lovely ambiance. We were there for lunch the day after Thanksgiving so it was a bit quiet to start. We called friends to join us as the food and service as so great. Enjoyed the flatbread pizzas and buratta starter. They offer wonder price fixed menu too. Will definitely return!
Great spot for a quiet business or friends get together lunch. Service is professional and courteous. Food is average - appetizer of squash soup was as bland as possible. Shaved artichoke and parm salad was tasty while raviolis with tomato sauce was just OK. The special stuffed ravioli was very good. Overall, food is not extraordinary but not bad. Prix fix $20 lunch is rare in NY as is a restaurant that is quiet enough to hold a conversation.
Zio's has become our go to restaurant. They have one of the best happy hours that goes from 4:30-7:30pm. As there are tables and banquets in the front of the restaurant, which is considered "the bar area", you are not stuck standing at the actual bar for happy hour. We usually have dinner within that timeframe so it's perfect for us. We actually prefer dining in the front section of the restaurant. Some of our favorites on the menu include the shaved artichoke salad, fried calamari w/ zucchini, ribeye steak, Branzino and the Cornish Hen. Of course there is pasta (gluten-free option available) and pizza on the menu as well. Great place, service and menu definitely worth checking it out.
Amazing and noteworthy cuisine. You are greeted warmly by the hostess and restaurant managers. The service and food are outstanding - the red snapper and the pasta were out of this world. Dessert selection is wonderful. Truly a top notch, wonderful dining experience that was very memorable. Run, don't walk to this incredible Italian restaurant.
I loved Zio so much a couple of weeks ago that I decided to go again with some other friends this past week. Unfortunately the entire back of the restaurant was occupied by a big party. This meant that the only seats available were in the front of the restaurant where the noisy bar is. We had a very nice dinner and despite the loud music, our experience was very good. All of our food was really delicious. The last time I disliked both of the 2 desserts we had. This time I ordered something different - the tiramisu. It was outstanding, probably one of the best restaurant versions I've ever had and almost identical to the one I make. I could have eaten 2 of them by myself!
What a great meal we had at Zio! Great wine selection. The salad had a unique vinaigrette I can't wait to taste again. There is a dish for everyone. And at least 5 specials to choose from. The service is also great and very attentive. they are one step ahead of what you need. Can't wait to go back.
One of the absolute best places in all of NYC!
1. A drink with friends at the spacious and welcoming bar with the best bartender in Gotham - Jesus.
2. Quick apps and cocktails during the awesome happy hour
3. A quiet dinner in the huge rear dining area
4. Fun dinner outing with friends in the front lounge
5. A private dinner for family, friends or company outing in the private room
This is the spot with great food, awesome drinks, wonderful waitstaff with outstanding customer focus and enough space to gather in comfort.
Italian food based on traditional recipes with modern flair. One of my favorite places - feels like home every time I go
Wow, my friends and I were very pleasantly surprised at how good Zio was. Our server was great, the place is very nice and the food was excellent. I almost never give five stars to a restaurant but I did because we had such an amazing experience! If I could take only a half star off I would but you can't do that! We had two desserts which we all did not care for. No matter, still loved the place!!
It was our first time there and it was fantastic. Waiter was great he had everything under control and very professional. Best of all he was there when we needed him but he wasn't overbearing. Food was just fabulous. Macaroni definitely homemade. All our meals were delicious I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone in the area.
Incredibly creative and delicious food. The service is amazing and quick as you are met with charming waiters in a gorgeous European style setting with several choices of seating for small medium or large groups in the back. This is a hidden gem...My favorite date spot. Don't forget to order the braised rib ravioli and burratta...sigh
I brought my cousins here from out of town and I am glad I did!
The service was excellent and we could have quiet conversation. We liked the fact that the bar area was separate from the dining room. The food was delicious! The pasta was amazing and so fresh!
One big plus is that they were so accomodating with our order. We are all picky eaters and they were more than happy to substitute/ change around the menu to our liking. That isn't always easy to do in other restaurants.
We all want to go back! It was a great dining experience!
So the beauty of this place is the separation of bar and table front area and back dining room. You want a more celebratory party vibe, stay up front. A quieter let's catch up take your time visit, ask for a table out back.
The food is just lovely. Fussy enough to feel special, without being all presentation and no tummy appeal. The truffle lasagna I had was stunningly good. The meat and cheese board is a perfect starter to share. The owner checks in with you and the wait staff really wants you to enjoy the experience. Pricing is a little steep, but they obviously use good quality local ingredients and that is what you are paying for. It is well worth it.
The prix fixe lunch is a steal.
